#Binary Star System

Cool idea :D
Would be nice to have both this and single star systems possible
Yes, we'll have to see what Ken thinks :) There's still a long way to go before the star systems
actually the orbit stability depends on how the stars orbit
are they orbiting eachother close together? far apart? os one orbiting the other closely or from afar?
its definitely possible and generally is but some systems cause planet orbits to be…erratic to say the least
binary, and even trinary or quadrinary systems would be great
(yes you can have star systems with 3 or 4 or rarely even 5 stars, the Alpha Centauri system being a possible example of a stable trinary system)
Oh for sure, there's only certain configurations it works for
Also an addendum to this idea, but the stars could be different sizes, even dramatically different
obviously lol
I know that in reality they are common (as you have said) But for Gameplay reasons I think it would be cool if they were rare to find
Don’t planets have to orbit really far from a binary star system for the configuration to be stable?
Either that or the smaller star orbits really far from the star-planet system
not necessarily
it depends on how close together the stars are
I suppose
I remember I was making a planet once and I tried to have it be orbiting a binary star system but I could never find a system in the goldilocks zone that wasn’t tidally locked
Or like
In an orbital resonance
remember that it doesn’t have to be an orbit ur used to for it to be stable
and we don’t necessarily have to have earth-like worlds in systems like these
That’s true
I know that Alpha Centauri B orbits farther out from Alpha Centauri A than Saturn from the sun
And Proxima Centauri is like as far as Pluto is from the sun
Cool thing to experiment with but not priority
