sharing the info i have in hopes we can look further into this

so the MGSMC version of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, which is the same version used in MGSHD and MGS3 subsistence, is pretty much an emulator wrapped inside Metal Gear Solid 3. the exact same modified version of Metal Gear was also released through GOG.

i have reasons to believe it's still emulated and not native. exhibit one being the BIOS screen showing up at the beginning.

in the MGS3 version, the game's save system has slots within the MGS3 menu, while the GOG version opens a save slot window. again, this is the same version, except they wrapped the save system inside MGS3.

#

inside the GOG's version, specifically Metal Gear/Resources, there's files for each language of 3MB each. they most likely contain modified roms for each language. we haven't been able to decrypt them so far.

#

it's not clear where the roms are located in the MC collection, but so far we've been able to discover they are probably the .sdx files inside each language folder (example: us/stage/mg1)

#

and that's as far as we've got

I think the emulation of the game is partial, maybe there is some rom data that is emulated but I believe the sprites and audio are separated from the rom file. At least that's what it looks like looking at the files of the game

Converting the ctxr files to dds just gives me a pink image and I haven't had much luck converting the sdt files
