some juicy new official screenshots for Delta just dropped. Apparently some lucky people got to play a demo
the HP gauge is centered at the bottom of the screen. interesting
some WIP shots. with delta coming out im trying to keep the art direction the same and just improve clarity. some issues still but i think its looks good
another wip in terms of camo. on my unfinished snake camo the snake skin is too strong so im gonna tone it down.contrast and colours are too strong as well. idk if its a good idea to add to the old stuff or to keep it more faithful.
also trying to recreate the codec profile using 3d models
eva ones need more polish on them
idk whether to continue this or to move on to mgs2 considering delta is coming out prob next year. i think it might have merit to have both delta and a visully upgraded ps2 version (with that you can play snake vs monkey with upgraded visuals as well)
rasvet is definetly the hardest area to work on to get it to look right

Regarding the radio portraits, keep in mind Bluepoint somehow used the wrong images for Para-Medic's in the HDC and it persists in MC

Delta uses the HDC one as a basis which is...I don't think a choice per se, I think they just didn't notice lol
The PS2 ones fit her personality so much better. I really wonder how it even got changed
I wouldn't jump straight to blaming Bluepoint on that one, Konami themselves had a remastering team involved in the 2011 remasters who were responsible for all the UI related graphics iirc

@flat bolt curious, what method do you use to generate your mipmaps? Hadn't bothered with them for mc mods till recently and ended up making a script to automate converting from PNG -> dds -> ctxr with Kaiser mipmaps, figured I'd share it if you think it'd help your workflow. :3
One thing about mipmaps
They are a pain to deal with in code
In fact, originally I made all textures have one mip map and import only one
However I see why they are needed..
Ctxr3 needs some work to deal with mipmaps gracefully since it really doesn’t at this current time

Yeah I hate it too, since I'm always gonna be doing the same exact thing with it every time it's used anyway I ended up just making a batch file that I can just make a shortcut for to process everything in the directory it's opened in cause fuck that noise lol
I use CtxrTool by Jayveer to convert the to .ctxr but just for some textures (specific ones), but yeah, I would love that script to automate a ton of them
But currently I'm taking a break from the project, but still gathering new ideas

so i was researching texture cds and i found this
it isnt exact (could be an edit, more likely image compression) but what im focusing on is the white artefacts in the original texture
they line up with the white tiling in the texture i found
its pretty close
this is from a marlin studio texture cd and i know silent hill used textures from marlin studio
the tile from mgs3 is from the graniny gorki lobby
from the same texture cd
now the mgs3 texure is an edit of the marlin studio texture
Looks pretty usefull, some quick edits in one or another and will be realistic and perfect

Hey guys I want your opinions on something I just thought of. MGS Delta is more of a remaster, than it is a remake, since the game is simply being ported to UE5 and some models are being upgraded. That's why I think it's more of a remaster than a remake, or at least, it's in between.
So my questions is : even tho what I'm about to say wont work 100% correctly without modding, wouldnt we be able to extract the textures of Delta and use them as a mod on the master collection ?
No that would not be possible because the models are going to be completely different and have different UV maps
thats why i mentioned that some things would have to be modded, the textures i mean. But even still, not all the models are going to be remodeled. Ground textures or building textures might work without having to tweak them.

like for example. The 3DS textures of Ocarina of time cant be ported to OOT PC port unless you re-arrange them into the same layout as OOT textures. and that was done. So that why i think it could work

Sorry, do you have a source for this claim at all?
What's your monitor's resolution? If it's 1920x1080, then you shouldn't be using internal upscaling option & only use the internal resolution setting. Internal Resolution = render scale, internal upscaling = FSR supersampling. In other words you were supersampling the game up to 3840x2160 (4k), so that sharpness is to be expected.

I doubt it. I don't see anything but textured like signs and papers being easily transferrable, and that's after the files being figured out and extracted
Also I imagine not only the uv maps will be completely different, but most of them won't find MGS3MC's art style, looking like a ugly agalmation like the GTA V to SA textures, for example. Specially given...no confirmation but won't they use textures made for PBR?
Anyway, main takeaway is just...doing from scratch might be much better in the long-run than TRYING to get placeholders.

ye alot of the uv maps in the master collection are just so frustrating to work with that most of the time its better to do things by hand then putting a placeholder. i doubt even the ground textures would work. the only things you could use are walls but then it would be so jarring because it wont fit the art style that there would be no point

anyone who wants to see what ive done so far can use the ps2 emulator
ALOT of the stuff is a WIP (alot of stuff i deleted). so i think at one point i had like maybe 550 textures done but i really wasnt happy with some so i think i have 384 done after constantly reviewing it over and over
most of whats done is in rasvet with some stuff done in graniny gorki as well
i did have a lot of the ground textures done but i wasnt happy with them so i got rid of most i think, could be one or two left that i want to replace still
issue is alot of the stuff has to be done by hand which is really time consuming (along with doing something, then a wekk later you look at it again and really dont like it so you start over)
i would recommend using pcsx2 for texture replacement cause its just easier to toggle and make changes that way (this game is a bitch for subtlety so alot of the time you think is fine but looks off and have to make really minor adjustments to make it fit) , you can do it in the master collection but its more comfortable on the emulator. so maybe rather than moving my stuff to master collection, move stuff over to the replacement folder cause itll be easier in the long run.
some textures are placeholders (so i believe the sky in graniny gorki before the fear boss fight is the same as in rasvet because the uv maps are the same so i need to vary the clouds in one of them as well as change the colour in graniny gorki)
i also have psds of certain textures
to make it easier i think i have a bunch of save states on the pcsx2 if someone wants to work on textures but doesnt want to trudge through the game (so like before a boss and after a boss, specific areas/ conditions so like grozny grad day all enemies inside eliminated)
so this will work with the us version of mgs3
pretty sure the european version has different hash names for the textures
it will work though for ape escape on disc 2 as long as its the us version because those textures do share the same hash name, so you can use it on that
if people do want to have a look and want save states so you can enter an area easier i can upload that. ill have to upload it with the emulator also because save states are tied to the version of the emulator that the save state was created with
would also recommend any who wants to make textures, and wants to use pcsx2 to compare with the og to also get the free cam for mgs3 on pcsx2 so you can fly around the map
you can also get some pretty nice screenshots
with the freecam it is recommended to use two controllers cause otherwise while your controlling the camera snake will continue to move around
but a workaround is to equip a sniper or the microphone which keeps snake stationary while you can peruse with the free cam with one controller
just i slight preview of prob may favourite thing ive done. the fear face is ai upscaled just cause time saving i did do some touch ups by hand. the hair is 90% hand painted and i like how it came out (getting hair right is quite a pain). i wanted a mix between the ps2 version but also used the 3ds render as reference

just need to find out what source they share now
one on the left is from mgs3 and one on the right is from san andreas

so that confirms that mgs3 uses at least 2 discs from marlin studios (which is encouraging because 1. i could only confirm that 1 disc was used (the interior design disc) ( the door is from another disc by marlin studios (downtown signs) ) 2. this potentially means that more discs were used if they took textures from 2 discs as opposed to just 1
the issue i ran into is although i was finding alot of textures
the artists at konami edited them themselves so some textures are hard to verify
So what's the plan? Going through every single "stock" texture libraries pre-2003 and eyeballing for any potential match?

i stumbled on this door accidentally, so if i can verify textures with marlin studios
ill replace the downscaled textures with the original marlin studio source image
but im mainly focusing on being as close to the og as possible which means doing its mostly by hand

just to clarify i did look at alot of texture libraries from pre 2003
and marlin studios is the only one i can say has been used

textures of doors are a really change as Resident Evil 4 UHD with HD Project, I like it^^ the last time, I tried modify some textures of the ground or doors but I couldn't do that resolution

Boxes are usually a nightmare to redo. I usually try something similar to the context of the scene

And in the line [Texture Buffer] put the SizeMB to 2048 like this (you can put 4096, but 2048 is enought and for me more stable):

If you want to contribute with something related to the project, a more realistic and lore friendly texture for the project, I will be very happy to add, be sure of it
In the case of your latest post the tutorial that is pretty usefull for latin america speakers (I'm brazilian, so spanish is pretty similar to portuguese)

realized a mistake that bluepoint made with kojipro's naming convention, files with mod1120 in the name should NOT have mipmaps (they're mostly enviroment/reflection maps, plus a few other textures that are always displayed at full size.)
Maybe also remove or tweak very noticeable patterns

i think as far as im concerned, this is dead. theres way too much work to be done and not enough people to do it. and with delta coming out it kinda removes any incentive
the only hope we could have had is if a good chunk of the original textures could be retrieved from the texture cds they came from. i made some headway with it but alot of the textures (more than 1500) seem to be made in house at konami which means either doing them by hand to match the look of the original or replace it with an entirely new and different texture. one is a TON of work and the other doesnt really satisfy me
I agree, is a ton of work, if a team, and not an small, but a huge team, 10 or more people focused on it, could be more interesting, but alone is really tiring do something like this

You should redo some of the hair to make it more detailed because the hair kind of just looks like long stripes like it doesn't really have the randomness of real hair because most of the time hair isn't just completely straight back and it's not just like one layer especially when it's a mullet You know what I mean?
First I'm redoing faces, hair is a separate texture that have alpha channel and usually gets fucked up in .png, so is better do in .dds, and somethimes transparent textures gets messy in MGS3, specially hair and The Pain textures, so I will avoid that since the last second
Tbh I think the shape of the plane that the hair uses might just end up looking a bit worse at higher resolutions no matter how you do it
