x4 mult if your played hand is the best possible poker hand you can play given your current hand.
By best possible I mean in terms of how poker hands are ranked in real poker.
For example, if you play a pair but absolutely nothing better was available, it'll still give x4.
However, if you play a two pair when you could've played a straight, this joker won't do anything.
For the hands that Balatro adds (i.e. 5oak, flush 5, flush house), maybe order them like this:
highest is flush 5
followed by 5oak
followed by flush house
followed by the other poker hands (straight flush, 4oak, full house, flush, etc.)

Perhaps the rarity or the x4 is a little off, but I do like this idea.

flush house is ranked above 5oak in the menu

X4 mult is a bit much

#

i think down to X3 like card sharp or acrobat would make it fit

iirc flush five starts slighter higher and scales chips faster but flush house scales mult faster or smth

Hear me out: What if it was "x3 Mult. -x0.5 Mult for each playable Poker Hand above the played Poker hand (minimum x1 Mult)"

I feel like that scales downwards too slowly, but if it was like -x1 that would be good

This would pair extremely well with Obelisk, since the optimal strat is to play 20 pairs then stop playing them, and the only thing a pair outclasses is a high card

#

so at worst you'd be forced to drop to 2.5x (or 2x as per @/__shan's addition)

it's still very broken at X3 imo, would always take against something like a driver's licensw

becuase what if your hand supported a full house?

#

then it gets outclassed by

#

two pair
3oak
full house

#

so that's -x3 = x1 mult

#

so in fact spamming pairs would only work if you're discarding smartly to avoid anything better

#

fair point

#

you can still get away with playing something other than a pair though

#

my point was that the only way to have reduced effect from this joker without resetting a pair-buffered Obelisk is to play high card when there's just a pair available

#

if there's anything higher than pair, you can still play that and scale Obelisk
