My guess would be when using soul it doesn't check if it already has an edition when applying negative. I've taken a few looks into the code and I saw, that negative is for some reason somehow applied at a different point than the other editions. But since getting soul is rare enough already and then you have to hit the low chance of getting negative and another edition, it nearly never happens
