Okay, so after painstakingly going through EVERY. SINGLE. MOD., I narrowed down the four that cause the game to crash immediately (at least on my computer)
- Donuts-Mod
- LunasDreadJokers
- MathBlinds
- Reverie
disabling all four of them with the mod manager seems to let it work.

Welp I spent a few hours trying to debug this and while I was able to get past the first couple blinds the game crashed on the third one.

I can confirm that hovering over the 4 suits tag crashes the game. The above crash log is the same as what it gave me

There are multiple tags that do this, actually:
Ortalab (Sword Icon)
Balatro+ (4 Suits, Card with up arrow)
Gemstones (Yellow circle with diamond in middle)
I am assuming that hovering over these when in blind selection crashes the game

the two notable things there are the 100 missed patches and the lack of a crash log (all there is is a very not descriptive WARN - [♥] The chunk name at 0x6d1b8b0 contains invalid UTF-8, skipping: invalid utf-8 sequence of 1 byte's from index 71924
so idk maybe someone who's modded on steam deck (not me) has had the same issue and somehow fixed it but i personally can't see a way of diagnosing the issue without being able to reproduce it myself

It’s important that the steamodded patches hit, so the priority has been reduced to try and ensure that happens, otherwise mods might change lines that smods is trying to hit and nothing will work

You target the lines smods provides instead

From one dev to another, reccomend having both a stable branch and a dev branch for each modpack to keep this sorta thing from happening in the future.

Choose the DebugPlus mod, and then untick "shnow new logs"

okay, Tag Preivew is still causing some crashes.
I dunno if the tagged cards are determined ahead of time, but I suspect there might be an issue with the lobotomy corporation jokers,

It does let me select a new version, but when I try to download that version it says that the folder can't be deleted because another process is using it.

the mods Donuts-mod, DreadJokers, MathBlinds and Ortalab-DEMO were crashing the game for me, try disabling these

yeah i found the mod that insta crashes post discard but it is still very unplayable in most recent version since the crashes are random past that point

I noticed an issue even beforehand; text describing the joker wouildn't display. This happened earlier when I removed BMWallet, so I'm guessing it's related to that somehow.

yeah. It was a bug that only showed up after removing BMWallet. My guess that it's because of some kinda hack you did to allow BM Wallet to work in the first place.

well heres the thing, i was doing a straight hand and out of nowhere this popped up
everythign was going smoothly until one of the cards had an enhancement/edition which gives ^1.1 mult

nah i made smods stop updating
its actually holding up well
ive had a run where i had over 200 negative jokers
and it runs smoothly at 60 fps
i was getting 60 last time but it was dropping a few times to 50
not that it bothers me enough tho
game is fun

found it, deleted it, now i'll run the full setup again
ok, so this might be a bug with the setup.bat. essentally, if the target folder exists (aka if you've ever installed the modpack before) it'll just error out and immedietly copy it from there
you might need to change the setup file so it deletes any preexisting folder with that name, with confirmation of course
this also explains why i still had mikas, i still had that old folder which still had mikas in it

Huh! Ok I got a similar bug when playing this pre-mod pack, with 'The Reed' only showing what Ranks it debuffs after pressing it. However, the fact it includes 'High Card' as a placeholder rank is, really funny to me for some reason. Makes me think about playing 5 of a kind high cards, lol

@silver oriole heyo just a heads up, I have just now updated UnStable (and EX) to support bettercalc2.0, but I have left the previous version in the old_calc branch. While I probably won't keep maintaining that one, you can probably target it for the old pack for now
Decided to test out a mod on the better-calc branch
The Small Decks mod (aka, the mod that adds a bunch of decks with simple gimmicks like all bonus, foil, or 3s) seems to be perfectly compatible with the current bettercalc. Gave a quick test to each of the three kinds of decks it adds (aka, enhancement, edition, and rank) and none of them seemed to cause a game crash, at least with the current version of steammodded. Which, makes sense, as it just applies mild vanilla changes to your starting 52 cards.
I tried reinstalling the modpack multiple times and it keeps crashing really early in the game's loading process
due to stable vers of lobcorp hooking to eval_card, it will shit and die upon the sight of bettercalc

Oh so there is a modpack manager under the Dimserene github. It also has different versions of the modpack some are currently working
It's mods that are compatible with the most recent SMODS update (which overhauled a lot about calculating which has broken a majority of mods).

the heresy tag doesn't seem to be creating anything at the end of the round, in the better calc pack.
also, boss blind previews look weird, usually saying "nil" instead of telling me what's actually debuffed (though this is fixed when you actually start the blind).
in fact it seems like end of round effects arn't triggering at all.
