I had swapped the game over to my vertical monitor so I could play it while working on some stuff on my main monitor. Upon trying to swap the display back to the main monitor by going into the "Video" menu, the game crashes and presents me with the included error message. I am currently unable to swap the game back to my main monitor.

I don't know what information might be relevant, so here have some versions and hardware deets.
Balatro version 1.0.1f-FULL
Windows 11 22631.3593 build
AMD 5900X CPU
6700XT GPU

I am able to get it to swap back to my main monitor with the windows shortcut win+shift+left arrow, however I still am experiencing the crashing issue if I try to open the video settings. It also turn the top left corner transparent instead of black the other corners

It appears even trying to disconnect my monitor and resetting my computer doesn't work

#

Reinstalling the game didn't work either

Huh, that's a weird bug

#

If you're having trouble with the video settings, deleting the file they're saved in might help you out

#

They're located at %appdata%/Balatro/settings.jkr

#

let me know if that works for you

After I tried deleting it, I opened my windows monitor settings and it appeared as though windows thought I had a second monitor despite it not being plugged in anymore. I restarted my computer, deleted the settings file again, and it opened up on my main monitor like normal. However, I still am unable to open the Video menu

That's almost starting to sound like a bigger issue if windows is also misreporting it?

#

(Displayport can be a little buggy when (dis)connecting monitors/etc while they're on though)

#

It's an older HDMI monitor

fiery grove
#

weird, HDMI should be fine with hotplugging afaik

#

in any case, is windows still confused about your monitors?

grave ruin
#

Nope, doesn't show the second one anymore

fiery grove
#

but balatro still is?

grave ruin
#

Balatro will open on my main monitor now, however when trying to go into the video menu it crashes again with the same message, even with deleting the settings file again

fiery grove
#

huh, that's really weird

#

Could you send the settings.jkr file here? I'd like to take a look at it

#

No promises I'll be able to fix anything though 😅

#

I appreciate the eyes on it!

#

Alright, there was indeed something in the settings file that didn't seem right (it has the height/width of your monitor stored multiple times, one of those seemed incorrect/confused)

#

I changed it to be inline with the others (also by looking at my own settings file)

grave ruin
#

Still crashes unfortunately

fiery grove
#

😬

#

Alright, that's all I got then

grave ruin
#

At the very least it looks like it's modifying the file a bit when I boot balatro, since the one you posted is 864

fiery grove
#

hmm, weird

Dang gremlins in the machine

pesky little bugs

So deleting the settings file, turning my internet off, and starting the game causes it to correctly launch on my main monitor, however I still am having the game crash when I try to open the video settings. When turning my network connection back on, steam prompted me to pick the local or cloud save, and picking the local save lets me launch balatro on my main monitor again, even with my network re-enabled. Unfortunately, I still cannot access my video settings without it crashing. I'm gonna try to use the file above with the procedure listed here, and see if that fixes things

#

Nope, it actually put it back to my second monitor again for some reason

grave ruin
#

Installing it on my laptop has no issues with the cloud save, can go into the video settings without any problem. Reinstalling it and verifying the game files don't seem to be doing anything on my desktop though

#

When I uninstalled Balatro, I noticed there was still some files remaining in the %AppData% folder. I tried deleting those and reinstalling, and unfortunately that also hasn't solved the issue.

Wow you tried a lot

#

all I can do is annoy the Bug Buster (aka Mathisfun_) to help

gaunt bobcat
#

Or just delete %AppData%/Balatro and do that

#

The file that’s causing this is probably settings.jkr if I were to guess

#

Ok wait it looks like you did that all already

fickle mauve
#

yeah thats why Im confused

gaunt bobcat
#

Maybe this is some sort of driver issue when trying to get that variable

grave ruin
#

Yeah I'm at a complete loss for what to do next, I feel like I've exhausted most things I know how to do

fickle mauve
#

well I tried

#

by making someone else try

grave ruin
#

FIXED IT!

#

Windows search is absolute garbage, I used "Everything" by void tools to search for any remaining files after uninstall, deleted all of them, restarted my computer, reinstalled the game, and I can open video settings again!

#

Let me see if I can reproduce and find which specific file was causing this problem

#

Okay, it is reproducible. Set game to the second monitor, restart the computer, and reopen balatro and trying to open the video settings causes it to crash again

fickle mauve
#

yay

grave ruin
#

Weirdly enough I can't seem to narrow it down to a single file, it really just seems like the best solution here is scorched earth

#

Oop, and it appears somewhere in the process I lost my progress
