Another way to gamble and it affects how I would play? Sounds fun
By that logic, economy jokers are invalid because of the investment tag
and tarot jokers mean nothing because you can skip for a mega arcana
i would rather skip a shop than waste my time on playing every hand in the game
you gain more money with econ jokers
you can get more tarots from the shop
that defeats the point
Id say balance is more important but its up to you
Just imagine playing every single hand type just to get fucking hit the road
7 is much more fair because strush and 4oak are kinda hard to come accross
The secret hands do exist
But you need deck manipulation for that
I could understand it at 8 but not at 6
at 8 this is just not even remotely worth it
I'm gonna say something controversial.
Uncommon jokers are better than rares.
You want people to struggle getting strflush and 4oak with a dead joker slot and waste an entire ante at least (9 different played hands means AT LEAST 9 played hands) to then get something that they might not even use?
Yeah often times a random rare will help less than a random uncommon
As uncommons usually have easier conditions
Finding a good rare to suit your run is cool but doesnt happen much
Uncommons offer huge commodities to score. Rares are "dance monkey dance if you want xMult".
Yes rares all are buildaround jokers
Doesnt mean theyre bad or good, but you need to make effort to actually take advantage of them
(Blueprints are exceptions)
So basically do you want to make 8 hands for a gamble? Even wraith is not that great and thats instant
With this at minimum you need what, like 2 antes?
If this was retroactive it would be situationally ok
In the early game you're more likely to play random hands when your build doesn't have direction yet
this is a very odd complaint to me
it is not difficult to make a variety of hands, the most difficult one is straight flush which you've noticed is no longer required
it's a very basic investment joker. you take it early game, play a few extra hands, and get a rare in exchange
I would rather skip a shop than play 8 subpar hands
What I'm saying is that the requirement is absolutely not worth the reward. I'd rather hold on to a bag of popcorn than this.
Think of how many hands I'm going to waste - and keep in mind, each hand wasted is less money you get.
Absolutely best case you play 1 hand per round somehow anyway? Then I'm stuck 3 antes with this?
The money I'm wasting, I'm buying a rare.
I'm fascinated by this hypothetical balatro you guys seem to be playing where you get perfect RNG and always have the option to win each round in 1 hand
is this like an option you can toggle on in a menu somewhere or
No that's the absolute "least money waste" scenario I can think of
Because the most realistic is that I'm wasting hands keeping a joker slot busy that does nothing
green joker, ride the bus, and vagabond are all powerful jokers that encourage you to waste hands
Yes because they actually grant you a reward you want. You get +mult per hand.
Here your reward is a joker that's most likely not going to fit.
I want +8 mult if it's keeping me alive
Getting The Tribe or The Family when my deck absolutely doesn't do that is not gonna keep me alive.
Or Driver's License. Or Hit The Road. Or DNA.
I see your idea of having as lootbox-like joker that turns to something else, maybe you can lower its requirement but make it tighter at the same time.
"Play 5-6 consecutive different hands to turn this joker into a uncommon/rare"
If you are forced to replay a same hand you played recently, then it resets and you have to replay 5-6 again.
that sounds actively more annoying to activate
and that doesn't fix your problem of "what if it's a joker I don't want"
I feel like this would work better with something like 4-5 hands and turning into an uncommon
seems like if you do all of the normal hands (not ones you need to unlock) it would be nice, but making it like an invisible joker I think would be nice too
What about this
Pupil | Common
-Sell this Joker to create a random [Common/Uncommon/Rare] Joker.
-Rarity increases every 3 unique hand types played.
so 1-3 is common, 4-6 is uncommon, 7+ is rare
That sounds like this other idea from time ago I heard #1231384734630805514 message
fair enough, although the flavor is pretty different
