#1.0.1e performance
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
1.0.1e has been a bit funky when browsing the shop and playing cards, get a few weird stutters that werent present in previous versions (i5-13600k, rtx 3070ti, 32gb ram)
I'm not really seeing any changes in terms of GPU utilization. Turning on V-Sync does still help but I'm still seeing the bad utilization for things like borderless and CRT bloom.
I just updated it a few mins ago with a big performance patch
my goat
Did you try that?
not yet
Just checking - did you verify file integrity to download the patch?
Yeppers
I watched it download the update. What sorts of changes should I be looking for?
Honestly I didn't change anything regarding those things, more changes that will fix stuttering as you do actions in the game and on steam deck
silky smooth so far
Although I was curious if the changes also fixed that
Nope
localgoat
v sync is on by default
Cool. So I must have been messing with things a while ago
Seems fine then.
I'm still curious why borderless forces the game to render at 3620 x 2036 even though my monitor is at 2560 x 1440. I'm using 100% scale and layout in Windows.
The arrows are disabled alongside that resolution when in borderless
Those numbers are generated by the game, the game doesn't actually know what your monitor resolution is because SDL and Windows dont communicate very well
It's kind of complicated but if you are in borderless it does render at the correct resolution even if it says otherwise
You too thanks for testing!
what was causing the stutters, just out of curiosity
the new update is weird
đ€Ż
this is what i get when i load the game
Does it stay like that?
yes
windowed
does it change if you drag a corner?
and of graphics i have crt off and shadows on if it helps with anything
no, still the same, i'll restart and see if it does anything
I don't have the stutters anymore
FWIW I just tried launching this new patch in windowed and it's working fine for me
game runs smoothly now
appears smoother for me too, this was happening on the steam deck
I used to get the screen stretched to 200% in the x-axis and odd discoloration. Restarting also resolved. I probably saw that 2 or 3 times out of launching many more than that...
Like I could only see the left half of the screen and it was stretched to fill the whole thing
Love2D (the engine) updated to a new version of LuaJIT a couple versions ago. Turns out that new version was causing some hitching randomly. I reverted LuaJIT and rebuilt the engine
everything looks fine after restarting, menus are woirking well and everything is very responsive, probably just a weird thing after loading the first time idk
a negative image gui object variable? that IS a weird one lol
a what
No more stutters! but We are having an odd visual bug. The cards seem to be missing the top 10th of the card. but aside from what looks like shrunken texture runs smooth as butter now.
can anyone else verify this?
my cards look fine
same
My cards are also fine. 1660Ti fully up to date and I have almost all distros being a dev myself
my cards look fine too
Restarting the game now to see if the card effect persists. It was persisting between bets
Do you have any mods installed?
Nope, I couldn't figure out how to
Just the beta opt in on steam.
Game has been restarted. Cards seem normal now. Just an odd bug .
Thank you for all your hard work and a fantastic game Mr. Thunk.
by that did you add/remove an files during 'trying to figure it out' ? maybe a clean install if it persists?
Oh weird
nvm me đ
Looks fine to me.
It looks like a bug I saw earlier during the demos - a video memory thing
No I left the main files alone. I don't mess with program structures if I don't need to lol.
if you look closely at that screenshot you can see they aren't just empty pixels
yeah almost transparent.
Sounds like it has improved for everyone then? Or at the very least no change?
Yeah it was still rendering like the full card shape. Just transparent, and the card texture not filling up the small bit vertically.
yeah i didnt test play much, but i havent had any issues since initial launch, im just here out of curiousity and a hopefulness to help if possible
it runs insanely better!! i can run maxed out setting now with basically no lag or stuttering whatsoever
Awesome!
cool checking now
PC/Steam Deck only please đ
my bad
please please keep on topic
Playing PC on the newest patch, seeing no issues
testing under high load game seems to be dropping less frames than previously.
game dropped from arround 400 fps to 140, and has stayed around there the entire time whilst calculating score
previously i believe the game would stutter more around this phase
played full gold stake run, no issues
Been playing on this for an hour, I have noticed no issues. I also had not seen any issues prior to downloading this latest performance update patch.
I play on steamdeck exclusively and will report performance after updating. prior it was a bit choppy occasionally.
thank you for the update!
Previously when I played youtube and balatro at the same time, it kinda lagged. That's no longer the case, so that's a good thing
im about to test my performance now. im not sure if i should now switch on vsync or keep it off
i really only switched it off cuz other games i played had better input reading at higher fps, so if it has barely any advantages/none, i might as well turn vsync back on
Iâm getting some stuttering on Mac that I donât remember from before.
Updated today newest version.
The flames are smoother than before tho!
Did some runs on two different machines; everything seems great!
- Win11, 7950X3D, 4070Ti, 64GB
- Win11, i7-1255U, iGPU, 16GB
I've been playing the game for about an hour or so and noticed zero audio errors as of now. Things seem ok for me now! Thank you
It's fine on proton, but no noticeable change except some text clearer. Curious about seeded joker order, like recent BU vids, cards and consumables are the same as his, but uncommon/rare drops aren't (maybe his vids are pre-weekend patch)
Tried a run on this version (wanted to do a no-looking erratic run) and it went great
hit the $20 lol
Notice any performance differences?
not really, but it was running smoothly before
didn't notice any lag throughout the whole run
ended up getting the 9s and Jacks synergies this run (after vs deck at start of run)
This is for performance only!
alr
I also tried fumbling with a bunch of in-game video and graphics settings earlier just to see if I could break things a bit, but didn't notice anything off when messing with things like fullscreen resolution
my game seems to run worse?
i played it earlier today and it was fine but after this update it seems like the uh frame rate has gone down
What platform are you on?
And can you share any system specs?
steam? i restarted steam to update it to see if that changes anything
and i'll close out of everything else to and see if it's still acting that way
seems to be running fine now
just... odd cuz normally i have like a youtube video going on minimized anyway and it would run fine but idk
same, the game has run completely fine until now. i have no idea if it's an issue on my end or what
sounds like a pc thing, not game performance
Do you also have an AMD graphics card?
No - I don't think so
hang on let me look for what kind of graphics card i have
im not much of a computer person haha
And can you verify file integrity on the game itself just to make 100% sure it's the most recent update?
love and lua is so lightweight, its so hard for it to not really well? this is the trouble with some solo game dev stuff; trying to fix 0.25% hardware issues while 99.75% run well and good and just waiting for the extra content; likely exacerbated by drivers/age/R|W speeds; theres just so much to consider
although i do admire your affinity for perfection thunk.
I doubt this is a 0.25% hardware issue - I don't want to be too quick to dismiss negative performance feedback because if I push it live to a million people and it's a 10% hardware issue, that's a big deal
my graphics card is a nvidia geforce gtx 1060. i just verified the update files. i'll play for a while and let you know if i keep getting poor performance
i fully understand that, and i wouldn't pressure to push live too early: my percentages were hyperbole ofc but just to say that its a rough rabbit hole; but like i said i still admire your desire for quality opposed to quantity; especially when it comes to the smaller guys; like people with motion sickness on a low-end pc or something: its awesome that you're thinking about everyone equally.
yes, and i think what's causing my game to chug is the card movement animations?
i turned on reduced motion and i dont seem to be having any issues now. but if i have normal animations on the game absolutely chugs
really, that's so odd
What about 1.0.0n?
If you go to the default branch does it do the same?
let me try that one moment, i dont remember having this issue before the patch today
game seems to be running perfeclty so far on 1.0.0n
very interesting
not to be mr. tech support but are your graphics card drivers up to date?
haha that was one theory i had. i'm pretty sure they are but let me make 100% sure
ya i finished the jokerless challenge today and then when i closed out i saw that there was like an update available
OH one other thing you can try - for those having issues
#1233586567671709886 message
basically download the latest microsoft VC++ redistributable
Currently not having any issues with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU (primary) with a full AMD Ryzen 6000 Series. Never had an issues stability wise with balatro before and doesn't seem like anything is different on my end. So uhhh success for my I suppose?
The game will ship with it once this patch goes live but for now it's manual
you might be onto something here because i recall having this issue with some other games in the past
Yeah some people said this fixed performance issues for them
And 1.0.0n relies on an older VC++ version
oh i see
maybe that's why then
Yeah you should try that too if you're having issues
i7-8700k, 6800XT, 32gb ram, ssd
no issues on my end. the game uses about 9% less on my gpu than the last update
ok my graphics card and c++ up to date. i think ive pinpointed that the game a) REALLY hates it when i'm alt-tabbed, and b) lags quite a lot upon startup until i shift-tab into the steam overlay???
i am playing borderless fullscreen
So does it work normally after you have shift tabbed?
just reporting that I've been playing since I had this thing, after restarting everything was fine. played for 3+ hours and had no problems, performance feels good on my end
it chugs for a bit then generally goes back to normal performance yeah
what the heck
yeah idk, might be some weird interaction with other windows/programs? since i can imagine the steam overlay counts as "another window", idk im not a programmer
How long does it chug after?
anywhere between a few seconds and 1-2 minutes
and it is usually accompanied by the card animations going ballistic as if they are "snapping"
yes
i just tried opening/closing a bunch of windows and the steam overlay like crazy and it is doing the same thing
So like if you open the game normally and just leave it to go to the main menu, performance is bad right
Earlier I noticed card animations correlating with game lag when working on a mod. The root cause ended up being keeping a global variable that was very large and shouldâve been a local variable. Not sure if that is whatâs causing it here but hope that info may help
ya it chugs but i suspect it's due to the steam overlay starting up
and that little popup in the bottom corner that comes with it
which one?
But the effects of that appears to be similar to whatâs going on here, random lag spikes that noticeably affect animations due to the extremely low FPS
Ankh (the mod)
It was one I made that like stored the entire game exe as a string or something
Oh I see, not a global in the source
No, it was an issue in my mod rather than something on your end
There were still some people noticing lag issues afterwards but that appeared to be the main cause
Thing is that I downgraded luaJIT to 2.0.5 to fix these performance issues so it's possible that the downgrade might have created some problems
but this issue sounds so odd, and Balatro was using LuaJIT 2.0.5 up until March (including all the demos)
And I can't ever remember seeing a problem like this in the past
When you have task manager open does Balatro take a whole bunch of CPU when it chugs like that?
Or is it some other process
yes
Itâs also weird that it happens on only some devices. With my mod it was happening for all the other people who tried it (small sample size though)
I have another odd request - try changing your monitor scaling to 100% for the monitor that runs Balatro before starting the game
I did make 1 major change in my code, I added a new Canvas to draw to at higher resolution so it can be anti aliased down to the normal screen size
for better rendering quality/text readability
Iâm sure localthunk has already asked this, but is vsync enabled?
And is bloom turned off?
what if it's not defaulting to your Nvidia GPU either, it says GPU0 is that your normal graphics card or some kind of iGPU?
monitor scaling and bloom didn't really help for the issue im having, but turning bloom off did give me more frames when the game is working as intented
honestly? i have no idea lol, let me look into that if i can
If you go to the performance tab it should tell you what GPU0 is referring to
I don't know if I've ever seen this game pin the GPU
so there is definitely something weird happening
seems like thats just my graphics card. i have a gaming laptop so i think 90 degrees is normal?
i know they tend to run hotter
okay yeah that's the right one
70°C to 85°C is typical NVIDIA GPU temperature range (source: google)
If it runs 1.0.0n fine then it's something to do with the game, was just making sure nothing else was getting in the way
even if it's running hot, it's running hot because it's at 87% lol
yeah lmao
this is pretty common for my pc as well, I suspect it's just a hardware thing, a lot of other games do the sane
weird
not weird, just gaming on a nongaming laptop lol
well mine is a gaming laptop but i think its getting up there in age
it runs a lot of games and whatever art programs i use fine and it ran balatro perfectly until this update
obligatory "have you tried updating your drivers"
we did all the troubleshooting steps already - you can review but I am pretty sure it's something to do with a change I made
No idea which one though
When I updated my GameMaker version, my Windows export on the "better" compiler resulted in a black screen half of the time. Found exactly one thread with the same problem, no solution.
i have no solution to offer here. sometimes things just break :(
playing on steam deck - haven't noticed any differences after about 4 hours on the new patch but I'm gonna try some builds tomorrow that have caused slight choppiness in the past. If I notice anything I'll report here, otherwise so far no noticable changes (good thing since perf is generally fantastic on the deck with default settings)
I had most of the same framerate issues mentioned above earlier today but after this latest hotfix I havent had any of the issues again. Playing on steam deck via handheld and/or dock + TV and controller
I felt nothing about performance, didn't feel wrong in older versions, but FPS have increased
o nvm that's on me lol
err...
wait now something weird is happening
i don't even remember what i was doing, i guess this would be a pack?
i guess i closed out of the game while opening a spectral...
fwiw it seems to be running well again
will test it out more
wasn't able to use either but was still able to skip underneath the cards at least
ok sometimes it's running like, very smoothly, maybe better than i've ever seen in run before?
but it's still getting noticeably slower sometimes and i can see some frames like missing, which i figure is sub 30 at that point
should i have vsync turned off or on
ftr i have NOT yet done that thing you had said
so dwbi it too much, i was just messing around with these other options more to see what i could and couldn't notice
what kind of performance issues are we talking about in general? I have never noticed balatro being anything less than smooth as butter
There was noticable hitching on some platforms, most notably steam deck
I think particularly OLED decks
VSYNC on
Pretty late but played a run with no hiccups so I think it's fine on my end now đ
no problems for me on pc, still smooth as butter like before
On Switch version it becomes extremely slow as the antes go and/or when you have many jokers
Even with the game in 4x speed
Btw, Local, do you have a QA tester on your team? Because i was just thinking it might be easier to get to the crux of performance and other issues with a dedicated person, rather than relying on sifting through walls of messages and trying to get it that way
If you have, no worries, just curious
Latest update after verifying files probably dropped 150-200fps for me, from the 400-500 range down to ~230
windows scaling @ 175% lags the game 100% scaling fixes the issue
already on 100%
it think itâs more ideal for the people that are having the issue try out the update and give feedback (crowdsourcing esque) rather than a limited amount of people in a QA team, as the QA team may not have devices that others have
QA testers are definitely helpful though
I have many QA folks, but this is the kind of thing that they arenât able to do themselves. I need testing on like 1000 different devices to spot issues and why not leverage the community to do that so they can play the new patch sooner too? Itâs a win win
what specs would be most useful to bring up when we talk about if something is fixed/not working
I just want to say THANK YOU. Now i can play without any motion sickness, getting rid of the cards bouncing was perfect. Thanks again for that and also listening to the community,
Platform, operating system, hardware specs, CPU and GPU
More info the better
Iâm gonna try to play on my shitty-ass laptop when I get home so I can try to squeeze out some issues!
weird bug, not sure if it's relevant here but:
Skipped small blind for rare joker, played big blind, in shop i didn't want the joker but i had 5 jokers already, sold one of my jokers to buy the $0 rare and sell for $4.
after this i purchased the overstock voucher that was available and it did not update to 3 cards in the shop (every other time this would be the case)
that's a thread dedicated to performance, any fps drops/lags/stutters etc
i donât think this is a performance issue, use #1233586567671709886
Regarding performance and something that has been happening today, maybe related to this from yesterday idk. My gpu is going absolutely insane with the beta. I have tried reverting to the live patch and everything seems normal there, launched other games and everything is fine, and then on the beta patch while on the main menu balatro it is using 95% of the gpu
I have no idea if this helps but here's what i get from live version
and this is what i get from beta
both idle on main menu
yeah i was having this same issue
Iâll make one small change and push to see if it fixes the problem for both of you, I have a hunch
Iâll ping you when itâs live
Steamdeck stutters, but less. Most likely to happen most often with card procs (ei lucky). still not a consistent lag though
Do you have TDP set?
And would you be able to tell me what your graphics/video settings are in game
Beta was launching normally up to yesterday. Today after some short update it refuses to launch every time (regular game still launches normally). Verify integrity and reinstalling didn't fix the issue.
I just pushed an update live a minute ago, is that version still not launching?
Let me try, one moment
@warm cave @hallow plaza I have pushed that version live, if you verify files and try again let me know what the performance is like
Tried to verify integrity again, but the problem persists. Any suggestion? I'd like to continue playing on beta :t
Can you share info about your system?
Oh wait yes I have a suggestion
let me find the message
Im on windows 7
Basically it might fix it if you download the latest Microsoft VC++ redistributable and install it
Oh
whatever you did has fixed it on my end, so much appreciated!
Is your OS not 64 bit?
i'll revert to live patch and see the difference, one second
Yes, it's 64 bit
Okay, my hunch is the vc++ redist might fix it, others were having a similar problem
but I have to run! I'll take a look later if not
this is idle on live patch, so i'd say beta seems much better now
Amazing
thank you for doing your wizard stuff, i can finally play again
Thanks for helping!
Do we post the new patch findings here?
im not having any performance issues per se, the game is super smooth and doesnt have any lag or stuttering whatsoever, but i figured i would post for posterity - i9 and 3060, balatro peaks at about 75% gpu and makes DWM chug too, doesn't happen with other fullscreen games afaik, gpu is pretty consistently maxed between the two
this is on latest patch after verifying integrity, vsync is on
Oooo thatâs weird
So I can put it down to 6 watts on my steam deck and it runs at a smooth 90fps but then this stuff happens lol
Downloaded it, restarted pc, verified integrity. Problem persists on beta.
Every time i press "play", game tries to launch and then stops, without opening the game.
Let me know if you have some other suggestion or fix for it
oh, for what it's worth my performance has been completely fine!
looks like its still using quite a bit of gpu (particularly when the window is not in focus? not sure) but as far as i can tell i haven't gotten the extreme lag i was having yesterday
so whatever you did seems to have helped quite a bit
ive been trying to replicate what was causing the massive spikes from last night and havent gotten anything
i can now go back to spreading the gospel of Straight (poker hand) in peace, thank you mr. thunk
this update rocks, my computer isn't too great so i've noticed a subtantial improvement
always very much appreciate to see devs that still care about performance đ
HOLY SHIT, this update makes the game scale with nearest when high-dpi mode is set to system now, this is actually the best update ever
actually for some reason it's only scaled with nearest when i take a screenshot? then it just goes back to using linear. either way thats not performance related so whatever
it's still definitely sharper even if it's not to a pixel perfect degree, so something changed
i hate to say it but i don't think my audio issue is 100% fixed. ive gotten a few audio stutters in like 3 hours of gameplay or so. I'm on windows 10, r7 3800x/rtx 3060 ti. its definitely improved, but i still notice it here and there. only a few times tho
would it be possible to split the location of eternal and perishable/rental? like eternal top right where it usually stands out and others on the left?
something like this?
eternal and perishable are incompatible so that wouldn't matter anyway unless functionality for the two acting together is implemented
hasn't come up for me yet to try. just remember the bad old days đ
maybe larger stickers are fine, I'll give it some time. plenty of times I've mistakenly taken a rental though
I was having stuttering issues on the previous experimental versions, but it seems to have ceased on the latest two experimental builds. Also, I love the new square joker.
oh what was the latest update?
also square joker seemed the same to me? 4 chips starting at 0?
my game was running fine again earlier but i guess i'll test it out again
Does the progress and gameplay in experimental patches like this carry over when this all gets pushed public? Sorry if this is answered elsewhere.
i have the same question
My particular performance issue is fixed on the beta w/ latest update
Just an FYI, latest update undid my "smooth pixel art" setting. Not sure what that's all about, but no real harm done
says it all
(if u dont know the context the 7 of hearts is equipped but i cant play or discard it)
this might happened cause at one point the game lagged
and when it lagged the card is stuck there
I'm not 100% sure, but there's no separate progress stored so I don't see a way for it to not count
Beta still unplayable. Didn't have any issues before the last update.
the game saves stuff in 1 place afaik
101e runs smooth for me, had one visual bug where i exited to menu after rerolling the shop and when i returned to the game the text displaying the money was slightly smaller
We do be running
Mr. thunk it did it again on live patch. Like before it only happened the first time I booted the game. I closed it, opened again and everything is back to normal now. Also everything else related to gpu usage is fine, about 5 to 10% while on main screen. Just wanted to let you know that this might happen to other people once they boot the game for the first time, but otherwise everything seems fine
Now even the base game is unplayable. Nice job.
mine's running fine
something was installed when i ran the game again tho
i think that is what you said would happen when that new change went live, but you also reverted i thought?
Have the exact same issue on beta, now on main.
Additionally can add that when trying to run it from .exe in game directory pops out error message which approximately reads (translated):
Point of entrance in procedure CreateFile2 is not found in library DLL KERNEL32.DLL.
I'm on win7 x64;
vc++ redistributable 2015-2022 x64 updated/deleted/reinstalled, didn't work
I'm taking a look at these issues now
@late scroll @ornate lance I am unable to troubleshoot these issues directly because I don't have a windows 7 PC - but I think I have a better handle on the issue. I build the engine from scratch for this patch (with windows 11/newer build tools) and those build tools might have removed backwards compatability to windows 7. If you are willing to do a couple things to test I might have a solution
sure
Okay, if you go to https://love2d.org/
download this one
(this is the engine the game uses)
in that folder there are a bunch of files. If you go to the installation folder for Balatro (where the EXE is) and replace the DLL files one by one then test to see if the game launches - let me know if any of the files swaps fix it
these are the DLL files I am referring to
okay, give me a second
1st one immediately worked love.dll
should i try anything else?
damn - was hoping it'd be a different one
If that works for you for now great but I'll need to figure something out for win 7 folks
Thank you for that though - big help
no problem, thank you for a great game and quick help â€ïž
If I send over other versions of love.dll would you be willing to try them out?
sure
Thank you!
I donât mean to be a harbinger but Steamdeck is still having pretty consistent stutters. Iâve tried on 60 and 90 fps lock with no TDP limit
I think 90 was worse but thatâs just from a few hours of gameplay.
I am having less stutters from the previous version but theyâre still most prevalent when I activate card proc effects or end of round effects
I sent you a message yesterday - would you be able to provide more info?
Is your Steam Deck stock OS?
And do you have TDP set?
Oh I see in your message
no we are all good! Have you tried a different Proton version?
I have both an LCD and OLED deck I have been testing with so I am certain there must be some configuration thing happening
Question is your OLED running worse or better
It runs at smooth 90 fps
at 4 watt tdp
I played like 4 runs yesterday like that
What language are you using?
not yet but I totally can try one
English
Is this running from an SD card?
no I am on the internal storage OLED LE
have vsync on and pretty average game settings. I have the CRT off lol
Oh I wonder if there is a hardware difference with the LE
I'm going to assume not because I can't fix that if that's the case - do you have any other non-stock ANYTHING going on with it?
no itâs all stock
LE does have a different screen
I know some other LE users have reported issues but truthfully all I play is your game now (and some other low requirement games lol ) so I donât think mine is having specific hardware issues
it might just be different and causing problems
I can try different proton if that would help at all :))
Yeah try 9.0
But I think there were general OLED issues before - those seem to have been fixed
but I haven't spoken to anyone else with OLED LE
err proton 9.0 beta wonât launch. Checked 8.0-5 after and it worked again. Checked proton experimental and it worked again.
I restarted and tried to launch 9.0 again and it still wonât work. this could be on my end but I am not sure the cause
turned off the force proton setting tool (which is what itâs on by default) again and it launched just fine too
shot in the dark - play with the master volume set to 0
see if that fixes it - because it'll stop all sounds from being read from file as you play
that SHOULDNT be the issue
but honestly at this point I don't know why your deck isn't working with this. Have other games been running fine?
will do!
yes! I will play for a bit and then let ya know if the volume change worked
I guess I should have asked - is your steamdeck OS up to date?
Any way to force an update?
@late scroll @ornate lance Try updating the game and running it now!
runs just fine after the update
Excellent!
Iâm gonna take the afternoon switching to 0 master volume and testing it, but I think it might be whatâs causing the stuttering. now that you mention it, the audio always lags when the game would lag visually.
I havenât had any issues after switching
Wow there is no way that worked
the woes of technology : D
That sounds like it could be an OS issue - your OS is fully up to date?
ye all updated
hmm I wonder if this is really a LE issue and Iâm only getting problems with mine now
if the Steamdeck volume is on 0 balatro still processes the audio right? If master higher than 0 ?
OS issues are sometimes really mysterious
Like my laptop had input lag and it took me so long to found out it was caused by like a driver setting and the manufacturerâs Windows service
Okay gotcha. I feel like Iâm taking sugar pills but this actually might have fixed it.
I usually have master volume on 100 and the steamdeck volume itself off (I play in public places and canât use headphones)
but when at home I play with volume on
and both times I had getting lag
no instances of lag in an hour since updating and playing at 0 master volume. I will let yall know if I run into an issue while the volume is off
The way to test is to reproduce the lag with volume on, then turn the volume off mid run and see if that fixes it
Just got gifted Balatro on PC the other day, and finally booted it up, but only got a blackscreen! The main screen audio is playing, but nothing is on the screen beyond the remnants of the Shift-Tab notification that Steam gives.
I've checked the files, uninstalled and reinstalled, and rebooted my computer (which should be able to run the game with ease!) with no luck. It's almost like the Steam client/game engine is frozen, because Shift-Tabbing brings up the Steam Layout, but it cannot be closed again. I tried a different Steam game, and that game works, so it may just be Balatro. Unsure if this is related to the experimental patch or not, though.
I sent you a message in your bug report!
I confirmed thatâs itâs the audio thatâs causing the lag by doing this. would that be a hard/software issue on my end ? sorry if I caused a hassle for something thatâs a defect on my device
It's really hard for me to tell, but this is not an issue I have ever seen before. I also don't know how it would be a hardware issue unless you had a problem with your read speeds on your SSD
The 'play sound' functionality is all in a separate thread and that shouldn't impact the performance of the main game on a system like the steam deck
Which is why I was wondering if your OS is up to date because it might be dispatching to other cores incorrectly
Both of those are testable - if you have a microSD card try installing the game on that instead and running it from there, should run fine like that.
And for the OS - you can probably opt in to an experimental version of steam OS to force an update
otherwise I'd look into diagnostic tools for Steam Deck and see if any other hardware is busted
gotcha! yeah Iâm gonna diagnose it to see if it can find any issues, I hadnât done that yet. thank you for your help!
No worries I hope it's a simple fix!
Hi local! Does the Switch version take more time to be updated or the new version is already there?
local i think mail in rebate might be a bit too good as a common econ joker it might need to be nerfed to 4$ per card or switched to uncommon from my experience its way too good in comparison to other common econ jokers
About this comment i made and the reduced motion config. I got to play more hours than before but still i have bad motion sickess. I spent some time trying to wrap my head around of what it could be and i think i got to a point. The thing is, even tho the cards are still (which helped a lot), having a lot of movement going on (like cards going up, down, the effetcs of packs and jokers, the numbers appearing at the bottom, top, left. the sign of the shop animation) still gives me bad motion sickess. Even tho the game would be more "dull" maybe, i don't care because i still want to play without feeling like vomiting after. It's really frustrating since i thought it solved. Will this have some kind of solution or should i accept the way the reduced motion is? Maybe another config for even more reduced motion, or turning off some effects or something
Also, maybe instead of the effects and points of cards happening close to each card, make them on a straight line (?) I'm not sure, but a solution would be making the eyes not go around so much, and also not have movements and animations going on the peripheral vision. Even the slight of these things take effect, as i could notice đ„Č
maybe it would help if there was a toggle where it removes almost all the moving game effects. Though maybe not as cool, maybe that's the price to pay
I agree! Getting rid of any and i mean ANY movement/effect would be perfect for this scenario
i think the ideal solution would be 3-4 "levels" of movement to let people find a balance between aesthetics and what they can tolerate without getting sick
but that would probably be hard to code
I don't think it'd be that hard. Just slowing down the movement speed
@ebon saddle time for another public beta
