Was going to suggest something very similar, my two differences being that you get 3 discards per round and skip tags are banned.

Water and needle should also be banned, alongside with the joker that make discards and hands retain between rounds (if it still exists) and the discards/hands vouchers

Even worse:needle is a death sentence because it will leave you with only the hand you need for it, but at the best case scenario you arrive at ante 8 with 0 remaining hands

Also, you shouldn't earn money from remaining hands
