LV 12 Straight should score 13k without anything else, which if you're on Ante 4 should oneshot boss on White Stake and twoshot boss in Purple+
I guess you mean getting outscaled at like ante 6-7?
- Did you play on other device too?
- Did you have OneDrive Sync enabled?
- no, i don't have any other device to play on 2. it's possible i've had it disabled some day for some reason, but i bought balatro on release and i generally have it enabled, so i don't think that would be the reason
Balatro's save data are located in %AppData%\Balatro. If any app / service prevents writing to this folder, you won't be able to save any progress.
Did you manage to save anything at all, or just unable to save Unlocks? To test, launch Balatro, play any deck for 1-2 round then quit. Reopen the game and see if you can continue from where you left off.
I tried to go to %AppData%\Balatro and I can edit the folder however I want to. The game remembers the stakes on witch I beat ceartain deck and the jokers I used, i can continue my previous run after I reopen the game and some of the collection is saved. However, I have to reunlock everything each time I open the game and the collection resets each time. I didn't have this issue immediately upon buying the game, but some time later and since than my collection is stuck.
^ so that's an unlock issue-only I see
yeah i guess but planets, tarots, spectrals, tags, booster packs and blinds are also reset
the only thing I can think of is to try manually saving and see if this persists.
To manual-save, launch Balatro, play and get some unlocks. While still ingame, copy your Balatro folder somewhere, close the game. Now, copy it back to %AppData%\Balatro, launch Balatro and see if everything's still reset (Make sure to disable Cloud Saving in Steam first)
thanks, i will try that. it's a bit annoying tho, i hope the dev finds a way to fix this soon
to be honest client-sided save is hard as hell to fix, as there could be a million of reasons behind it
and Cloud Save also causes trouble for people playing on multiple devices too
I've started struggling on ante 4 boss*
Because, you know, zero straights after using all of my discards
Ah, that's more on what I'm thinking on the struggle. I guess this is more on the relatively less options to make Straights less vulnerable to card-draw RNG.
As your game prolongs and you may need to twoshot or worse, you're more likely to get screwed with card-draw RNG, especially when cards that you discard for the 1st Straight might be the cards you want for the 2nd.
I have gotten bloodstone on my last like 4 checkered deck runs. Ez wins
And just like that, checkered deck is gold staked
Finally played with the new vampire (magic deck, purple stake, got eternal vampire around ante 5? only managed to scale it up to 1.5x on the final boss) and it does not feel on the same level as other rares at all. I still think it should be rolled back to uncommon, as it does not do as much for the money you put into it.
Dunno if it's just me but that 30% for rental/persiahble just doesn't feel right i get it most of the itme, feels like a 75% especially when they combo together on a free tag card all of the time -.-
no but seriously does anyone feels like they hit more than 3 in 10? really nukes anaglyph decks out of the most tbh
Yeah vamp going to rare alongside the heavy nerfs was wild
If it was one or the other
It would be fine
saddest thing was that vampire was eternal, so I couldn't even sell it, I had options for glass cards but that won't rly help me other than 0.1X 😭
well that was embarassing...
Wow by one chip
that's exactly the reason why poker hand lvls should scale faster over time
if you are all inning on smth, it gotta hit it big
vampire scaling for only 0.1 is such a joke
I'm still on the book of Vampire should scale 0.2
its like, oh yeah, let me pull 10 enhanced cards out of my ass just to get x2
the nerf of "played card" was fine and justified, but it makes this Joker scale very slow it wasn't worth it lol
Constellation scales same rate, but you get instant scale and buff filler hands in the process
indeed, it enabled high card builds with golden mask
before I mean
^ yeah, and LocalThunk wanted to make things consistent, so no complaint there
but the fact that this Joker is now Rare makes it a bad one among other Rare Jokers in the pool
it's oughtright worse than Constellation (Uncommon) now
no idea why people still think it's good as a Rare Joker lol
and yeah, it sucks so much ass in early game
even before nerf
it struggled there
I mean, you're just complaining at this point. All scaling jokers suck with new tags, that's the point
Same here, all scaling Xmult jokers are pretty mid early game
because first you want some +mult sources
and chips
and only then you would have Xmult do most of the work for you
Well, umm, shouldn't I?
yep, it's just scaling. vamp is still really good - tarot cards are more plentiful thanks to pack changes + more accessible jokers like 8 ball
it's just not overwhelmingly snap pickable like before
probably a top 5 joker prepatch
it got 3
??
you're saying since skips are more viable, there's less chances for vamp to eat?
rental and perishable
oh
i guess i kind of see what you mean, it affects every joker similarly so when you see a rare, it's that much more unlikely for it to be tagless
It's rare, its scaling got havled, now counting only scored cards and it can now get fucked over by perishable tag
I have no idea under what circumstances you wanna use him now
i can tell you the few runs i won with him, i picked him up ante 3-5 and was able to scale him decently quickly because i had a bunch of enhanced cards
it's just the same as any xmult joker - you take him when you're ready to scale, and have the econ to support it
Well, ig you can find ~10 enhances by ante 5 but that will give you like x2 mult
that's so slow
and now your deck lost 10 enhancements
Perishable tag affects ALL scaling jokers, I don't see why does vampire specifically suck because of the perishable tag
you answered your own question
by that logic every joker got nerfed twice because of the new stickers
before patch - no perishable, vamp is chilling
after patch - now can be perishable, vamp is not chilling
we should just make orange stake do nothing
lmao
is that what you're suggesting?
no, I'm suggesting vamp getting back his x0.2
I have nothing against new gold stake
wdym
magician changes make that a bit easier, and tarots are easier to farm than before so it's quicker to scale than you're giving it credit for
Well it does sound like you're just complaining about perishable tag, that's why I'm confused?
it's not a nerf when the effects are universal
it is universal on all scaling jokers
yes, this
every scaling joker*
well...i'll leave you all to it, feels like we started talking in circles a bit
Well, I do think vampire needs a change in its current state, either it needs 0.2X and stay rare or it should become uncommon with 0.1X, since it is pretty underwhelming
lol
i still think Vampire is fine but Rare to Uncommon would be the best change
yea I'm fine with either
it feels pretty bad as a rare
unless you have tarot generator joker/seals
which is pretty situational
yea i'm in the camp that vamp is totally fine in its current state
it's not like you should be able to say "hey this rare joker works in every single circumstance"
you take rares because they have strong situational effects
I don't think it feels right as a rare, it was A. nerfed enough that I think it's in line with the uncommon scalers and B. I argue all the rare growing xmult jokers (aka the ones that the xmult numbers grow bigger on the card from meeting conditions) have a reset condition currently so if vamp is Rare it should scale a bit faster and have a reset condition as well 😛
I mean even in the right situations its not good
i guess that logic excludes blueprint/brainstorm though lool
mm only because we've seen it at its best, now that it's feeling a little under the weather it can still hard carry a run
nope
lol
I had it for 6 antes and it only went from 1x to 1.9x
oh that's unfortunate
I had it for 4 antes and got it to 1.5X
^
no tarot generating stuff and I died to final boss
Its litterally worst than HTR and thats saying something
i had it from ante 3 and was able to get it to 2x by ante 5..
having a generator really helps, and a strong econ
I had like 3 more enhancements but couldn't draw my lucky cards and my steel card was doing literally more work than vampire 😹
You really want a Tarot generator if you want to play Vampire now.
tbf my joker line up that run was burnt joker, 2x for flush, 2x for pair, vampire, and astronaut LOL
yeah, unfortunately in my run I was going to lose if I didnt pick up some Xmult
so I didnt have any jokers for a generator
this is interesting to me - vampire not having a reset condition is part of its identity, imo. that's why its scaling needed to be slowed down
man i wish i had time to hop into a run and find a vamp but i'll have to do it when i get home
I dont think econ matters that much, you can have econ but it's not guaranteed to get enhancement tarots in a pack, as well as you're not guaranteed to draw said enhanced cards during the round
true
Whreas Tarot gen means you're most likely having these on hand which means you can enhance right before playing.
My playful thoughts was as a rare if you wanted a reset condition was vamp seems like a thirsty little guy, so vamp could reset if they don't drink within so many plays but with better scaling. (aka lore wise plenty of vamp lore has vamps lose their strength if they don't drink in so long)
But yeah when I was doing a look at the jokers I noticed all the rare growth ones reset, it was an interesting notice lol.
tbf if you have good tarot gen you are alreadcy winning a lto
lmfao i kind of like this actually
Doesn't help that the enhancement drain means you're basically also going "purist run" to some extent.
this is interesting, saying that vamp is a "win more" card is a little disingenuous i think
Vampire should be a wincon to Tarots instead of a winmore
and i think it already fills the wincon role, even nerfed - tarots can set you up for success but they don't win you the run outside of like...jokerless lol
i think vamp serves the role of turning tarot cards into a wincon
No, Vampire is a win less card
i'm not sure i can say anything to that, you seem pretty set in your opinion lol
I am, but tbf Im salty cause I havent gotten a single good vampire run nerfed/unnerfed
so Ive never tasted glory, and will never taste it
I got him cookin but the first time I did the seed was full skip for merry andy
every time i get him i have like eternal hack or some shit 💀
one run i got Vampire to x2.9 in a few antes with packs and shop only
I only got to actually cook after I replayed the seed
lool that's a mood
I might just not have enough experience
most of my hours are from modded/glitched content if I had to guess, the only times Im not doing that is when the game released and the new gold stake
oo good start
VERY GOOD START
100k by round 7
WHAT DO I SELL!?!!?
oh wait bull, didnt notice it was perishable
perishable brainstorm...
what is this run bro
Im gonna have to skip it
thats me with vampire
😭 sorry for stealing the chat but like wtf
So I heard you like retriggers...
could've lived into this next shop if i played one more polyglass 5 in my hand, but i was trying to hold onto them incase they broke
this entire run pretty much stemmed from one random ouija in an ante 1 or 2 shop (ghost deck moment), got 5s from it
I just pulled 2 legendaries back to back
howwww
hahah maybe it's an illusion take here too 🙃
YESYESYEYSYESYYESYSEYSEYSEYSEYYSEYSEY
casual 26 billion
ankhing triboulet was the best decision Ive made today
I take dusk here right? XD
yeah 2 vampires is not good
welp, new pb
gratz!
Found a Bug
yeah that happens
since start of rounds go after boss blind abilities
I think its intended but I dont remember local saying so or not
understandable
wait really? it keeps making cards?
or you mean the cards stay in your deck
ahhh yeah
honestly i love cert because of the +1 hand size it gives yuou turn 1
but then its a -1 hand size afterwards
not exactly -1 hand size, it just goes back to normal
and then your deck is marginally bloated with a good seal card
well you draw 1 less card
and then after that its normal
you get the random card but then if you discard 5 cards you only fraw 4
since you go back to the x/x hand size
since you were over hand size limit yea
yeah
really effective in low builds like pair/high card
man thank you so much for being here ducker
so glad to see another certificate lover
I mean I love certificate
I just havent gotten anything with it
hanged man + certifate must be cracked as heck
rlly?
Trading card certificate and hologram
I meant trading card
🕵️
Did you
I mean I put in suggestions and local made it a reality the next week
and local commented on the thread
rental trading card is fun
I feel like lucky cat was based on the lucky crow suggestion ngl
maybe
I mean, no reason not to keep it
I alsdso created red card idea but my original concept was slightly different and more fun, and I Local never commented if they saw it
1 boss
XD
gotta stay hydrated
I was drinking water irl as I said that
True, it's getting hotter outside
true
Waters weird, I drink it and then all of a sudden I lose any chance to discard
XD
Couldnt think of anything to replace discard with
What are y'all doing with Vampire to get it at 1.5x? I've never had my vampire anyplace lower than 2x, with below 3x being rather rare
Like seriously how is that card so much worse when y'all play it I don't get it
Used to depend on stake
If its like orange and gold stake, you needed tarot cards in shop
In order to scale it reliably
same
max i got was 2.6
Now? Its just kinda decent, but the fact is that it needs to be scored cards really messes with things
Vampire got a ton of nerfs but the removal of the orange stake shop inflation was also massive for it as well
Its not even that bad, it just got overnerfed imo
It did not got overnerfed it's still one of the best jokers in the game
Constellation arguably does its job better now and thats more common
They're both great jokers
Yeah xmult is nothing to scoff at
But i think constellation is just a better x mult scaler
Due to planets ALSO being better now
Being scaling xmult ala Green Joker or Squared in that it doesn't matter what hand you played as long as you scaled it before makes it so unbelievably good
That's not a point against Vampire
Specially when you never really are in a position where you have to choose between either
It isnt I know, but its just that the other options for xmult are better imo (besides hit the road tarnation that joker)
Ehhh, I disagree tbfh. It's better than most other x mults
Thats fair, i barely enhance cards though sooo that might play a factor
It's extremely unconditional, not caring about hand or other requirements at all is a very rare trait to have
Here's my tierlist of the x mult jokers (tiers not ordered within themselves)
Isnt canio an x mult?
Right, forgot about that one
also ancient joker
Added a few goobers I forgot about
also acrobat
Cat
The thing about Vampire is that even if it capped at 2x. it'd still be a damn good joker
And still be at least A tier
Oh yeah it would be, I just see it as decent tbh
I see it worst than hit the road
Like a good option but not one I want the most
Just a free 2x mult with no string attaches - not having to worry about specific hands, having a club in the hand or any other hoops to jump through - is so exceedingly good
Unless you have good tarot generation you cant get it up fast, maybe like 2x after like 4 antes
I did 6 antes and got it only to 1.9x and I was trying to get it better
How are you only playing 9 enhanced cards in 6 antes'? Do you not open tarot packs?
I do
but not only do you have to open tarot packs, you also have to get enhancements
and also you have to score the cards
Which are like, around half of them
Most tarot packs you open are gonna have enhancements in them
- the tarot cards in the shop
yeah, but only 3 of them are things that let you select 2 cards
but you have to score them
Yeah, but over the course of a run that's still a lot of enhancements
Yeah, just score it
You can just throw a high card with them in it
thats what I did
I know i was on the side of vampire being not that great, but I dont see it as worse than hit the road
htr is at worst 1.5x consistently
from what Ive gotten
though at best 2x consistently
Ii hate having to play around road tbh
HtR is at its worst 0x if you draw poorly, and drawing poorly kills runs. Vampire doesn't have a consistency achilles' heel
just get smaller decks
I mean vamp kinda does if you cant draw the gee golly enhancement
like use hanged men and death and you can get htr up a decent bit
The thing is once vamp gets the mult it doesn't lose it unlike hit the road. You're not gonna die ante 12 because vamp whiffed like you can with hit the road
also there are way more synergizing jokers with merry andy and drunkard and such
Saying HtR is easier to setup than Vampire is genuinely insane. It's way easier to put enhancements in your deck than to get jacks in hand
I mean thats true, but you get 5x the increase than you do from vampire
so each jack is worth a whole hand of enhancements
Having a high number on an x mult is overrated. You want many x mults and consistent x mults, not a highrolly big x mult
Its not high roll with enough discards and such
If you dedicate your entire build towards jacks sure, but at that point it's no longer a generic x mult and thus really not that good for what you want out of an x mult
If you dedicate your entire build towards vampire sure, but at that point it's no longer a generic x mult and thus really not that good for what you want out of an x mult

The thing is Vampire slots into literally any build while Hit the Road doesn't
not literally every build to be exact
I can agree with you on that, but you lose the ability to actually play enhanced cards
eg it would antisynergize with lucky cat
yeah
Which most relevant lategame. Stuff like lucky cards, bonus cards and mult cards aren't meaningful enough later on
I disagree a lot
If lucky cat is at least at 3x and I find a vampire I am taking it to get a second source of x mult
if lucky cat is at least 3x then you focus planets for plus multi and plus chips
In fact that's a great moment to pick up Vampire - you already got a source of x mult + a bunch of enhanced cards, allowing Vampire to get fed and close out the run
After a point it doesn't matter what you were doing with enhancements before, whatever it was often isn't better than a 2x/2.5x joker. And if it was like glass cards retriggering then you likely already won due to how good that build is
The only real antisynergy it has is with Driver's License getting turned off
another thing is htr scales the more you have while vampire doesnt
How are you getting so many jacks? Or are you finding HtR like ante 2?
I mean tarots
Yeah but you're not duplicating Jacks if you don't have Hit the Road
also I almost always try and lower my deck size with hanged man > enhancing a card with enhancements
Well yeah, but that doesn't answer the question of where the extra jacks come from
you are enhancing cards with +30 chips unless you are using vampire or have insane tarot generation
you dont need extra jacks, 2 jacks is 2x multi which is better than vampire
loyalty card is good if you have burglar
Seriously how are you drawing them in every ante? Drawing 2 out of 4 specific cards from your deck every blind is not realistic at all
Mathematically at some point you're not gonna see the jacks
Even 2 out of 5 or out of 6 is already sketchy
Maybe I play to much painted deck cause I was stuck on that gold stake forever
Fair
but I mean I use hanged man > every enhancing/suit changing joke every time unless its like magician and I draw my always play cards
yeah I got a few good looking runs, but the experimental version doesnt fix my stupidity
also I did win eventually so that was great
I mean, same. My order usually is death > money/hanged man/emperor > enhancing cards > high priestess > suit changings
I take high priestess over enhancing cards unless its super super early and magician
cause you get money back from selling allowing for more interest scaling and such
Wack, tbfh. I usually deprioritize high priestess a lot
Unless I'm playing Constellation
true
Early empress can be nice yeah
but I like high priestess since you can sell the planets to get your money back, especially if it gets you over that barrier for interest
Lategame I would rather build towards vampire/driver's license/lucky cat/steel joker because the x mult cards are what make or break the game at the end of the day
hmmm ig I can agree with that
tbh I dont think Ive taken steel joker, maybe I need to think of steels more often
I feel like selling the planets for 2$ is very shortsighted when you can be using the tarot that makes the cards give +30 chips; lategame chips are super important, alongside the driver's license and vampire synergy as well
- imo if you wanna go for money it's always better to go The Devil than High Priestess
I dont like ancient joker cause its very high roll
I had 2 gay ancient jokers one run pre experimental and managed to lose
especially with bosses
Going for high priestess and selling the planets is so not worth it; I would rather get the unique bonuses that the arcana pack gave me than trying to get a refund. I can get 2$ anywhere but creating bonus or mult cards I can only do here
hmmm, you might be right
Ancient Joker is awesome until it lands on a suit you didn't happen to draw and your entire run falls apart on a big blind
if ancient joker actually picked a suit in you deck that would be nice
especially for checkered deck
yeah exactly
but you should be able to
Ancient is really weird
Lategame you really want chips so enhanced cards or the tower are unbelievably valuable. I'd rather get them rather than 3$ from High Priestess (assuming it got over an interest threshold), + it opens up more x mult options in the form of vampire and driver's license
The best way to use ancient joker is telescope flush
The problem with ancient joker is that you can't thin your deck for it
yeah
If you have ancient joker and you focus on only 1 or 2 suits then it will call a suit you don't have and the run dies. Meaning you're forced to have all 4, meaning sometimes you just don't draw a flush and the run dies. (Or, later on when you're two shotting hands you don't draw two flushes and die)
I've had situations where I end up taking high priestess and selling the planets, but thats usually cause I'm fishing for a specific one, or have a planet pack lined up
exactly
Wild Cards are wack due to only 1 from Lovers and Smeared is a Uncommon while Ancient is Rare. I really dislike both jokers so I'm never running just Smeared or just Ancient, meaning I never get this combo (and it's a rather rare combo too)
Its slightly better cause of the -hand size removal, but until lovers is buffed, I don't see it being that good
Unless you have like chicot, or director cut with lots of econ, I dont rlly take ancient joker
Ancient could become really the new Lucky Cat if Lovers gets changed to make 2 wilds
I disagree because of the bosses
That's fair, yeah.
I feel like early game it's still not good due to the consistency problems. You don't have wilds, don't have the wasteful or artful voucher, etc
I have ancient joker in C tier, but its mainly cause of differing tier philosophies
especially since you cant find the same boss 2x, you are bound to get 1 of the suit bosses eventually, most games you even get 2
- it's a rare so it's hard to find earlygame when you're not rerolling a lot
Valid
The chad buff at least helps it
I haven't found it at all in the new patch for some reason, dude's been really hard to find for a while now
I can see it being very good if you get hanging chad
yeah I havent found lucky at all except for 1 time in ante 11 today or something
actually might have been something else? I forget. the main point is it was to late to get it
XD
I might start doing uncommon joker tags ante 1 for lucky cat
actually that doesnt work cause I wont have magician fudge
yeh
Having an xmulti or rare joker being perishable sucks
unless it doesnt fit my build
Cat is a lot easier to find if you prioritize magician over the planet producing, like Sun Magician High Priestess taking magician here
Its cool with commons and most uncommons, but when it comes to things that are game changers it actually hurts so much
though it also makes rift raft an S+ tier like youve never seen before
since they cant get those tags
Eternal Riff Raff, ack such a frustrating pickup. Sometimes you have to take it but late game it's soo annoying
Painted deck cosplay
black deck + rift raft must be fun
imagine 2 polychrome eternal rift rafts black deck, that would be a fun game
I havent played black yet
I fortgot about the campfire nerf
wouldve won that round if it wasnt nerfed... oh well
woops
came back since someone mentioned Rare are strong situational Joker... That logic is flawed because most Jokers are "situational" lol
The rare jokers mostly are really powerful when they get working, but require a bit of setup
So as a side effect, a lot of them are quite situational
yeah, baseball only works when you have uncommons, dna only works if you want to have many of a card, obelisk only works if you played many of a hand and your jonklers don't need specific hands to proc, etc and etc
ok friends. we are back
there's exceptions to the rule - brainstorm, burnt joker, driver's license i guess
maybe a better way to put it is "rares alter the way you play for a large benefit," as in it can be worth to pivot your default deck into a more specific form to meet the conditions for a rare joker to pop off
been a long weekend but we're gonna finally take care of plasma on new gold stake
Brainstorm requires good utility jokers to copy/hand xMult(though it is one of the most general ones)
Burnt is only good if you can reliably discard the hand you want to play
Driver's license forces you to find enhancements
that logic somewhat applies to uncommons but it's usually not a complete winout. like i can't play to ante 8 relying on marble joker by itself, or four fingers, or even constellation - uncommons are wincons with support from more than 1 joker. rares, when given ample deck tailoring, usually can straight win you the run
And commons are the least situational jokers but often lack raw power to compensate
this reasoning is kind of why i think stuntman should be rare - it corrals your deck into playing pair/high card most of the time, and is pretty narrow in focus despite its strength
I always view the three tiers based on their power and versatile:
-Common = least powerful, cheap
-Uncommon = mid-tier, can be very powerful, affordable
-Rare = most powerful, expensive, requires some setup to utilize
naturally when you invest in Rare you'd want a good return, but some Rare Jokers are simply outclassed by its Uncommon version
WELL then.
first run of the night
plasma gold ✅
photograph + sock + timed out my perishable throwback. didn't even need neg acrobat to kick in w a flush build.
done with red, black, nebula, ghost, abandoned, checkered, zodiac, anaglyph, plasma, erratic
backtracking now to blue
takeaway is still that econ is too ez and you can play around the rentals in a pretty straightforward way w enough reroll
easy if you dont reroll too much like me perhaps
I gotta take this game one step at a time and not reroll if I'm already winning
if ur beating current ante scores and not already maxed out econ u don't need to reroll much. but hunting for a couple cheap rerolls is good
Has anyone else experienced not being able to get the last legendary joker on gold stake?
I had two left, I got one but Canio refuses to spawn
I've gotten soul stone at least 3 times
Its hard to figure out since you dont get soul often
let alone on gold stake
So sorry, no I have seen this
The unique legendary thing is only on gold stake
But if you never cleared with it, it should appear in the next soul
yeah...
that mechanic seems to be working for me
ive gotten a gold sticker on all legendarys but chicot, and now ive always gotten chicot from soul on gold stake
unfortunately
one day i will get the chicot sticker and be free of this curse
I think this might be the highest I've leveled a hand? I had an early telescope plus burnt joker and supernova. Picked up space joker midway through the run and it was a no brainer from there
Also I really feel like orange and gold stake aren't as much of a grind with these versions. It took me ages to gold stake my first deck, and yeah I've gotten better as I've played more and more, but I am climbing the stakes with ease and finishing out high stake runs way more frequently in this beta. It's very fun
Wait, is it based on the stickers?
I literally don't have Canio unlocked, I don't think any of them have a gold sticker
- Changed Gold Stake random seeds - now ensures that the first Legendary Joker on that seed is a Joker that you have not won with on Gold Stake (For Completionist++ hunting)
so yeah its jokers that youve won with on gold stake
Argh, that makes sense though
I was thrown off because the first time I did get a new one
this is why vagabond is rare
oh vagabond + flash card is smart
you're gonna be spending all your money between rounds so you might as well get value out of the rerolls
Vagabond + Egg/Gift Card + Flash Card is incredible
I used to think flash card was trash
Vagabond Economy Moment
what do I do? Egg's carrying my economy hard
flash card is at +172 btw
not even sure if BS is worth it
oh yeah I already moved on, it still popped off tho
I had +50 Temperance and Money Seed so I was using it for +20 Interest total most rounds
there's a reason it got moved to rare
true
tbh it didn't even need the buff but I'll take it
though Ive only gotten good runs when it is rare, and not when it was uncommon XD
The buff is minor, but it makes it a lot more fun to use
ig, I dont know since I never got to use the uncommon version XD
like it made 2 Gold Cards allow 2 Interest instead of needing 3
i suggest oops all perishables as a new challenge...
non-non-perishable
No ice cream! No popcorn! And no seltzer!
perishable playing cards
“Double or nothing” is already perishable playing cards

except you can revive them with enhancement
glass without the upside
God how did I not think of that
First ever gold stake run I won was with vagabond. It’s probably a great gold stake card now
I wasn't aware of that either until Balatro University points that out
same technology works on cards debuffed by the pillar, btw
having a tough time making runs get past like ante 2 even on painted deck gold but I might just be bad
nah cuz here ALL your cards are debuffed by ante 3
so u gotta just keep trying to roll insta win jokers
basically gold stake
yeah my win rate when doing gold runs on painted is abysmal
another goofy vampire w, vampire ate all the vagabond enhancements, while campfire ate everything else
painted was what i spent the most time on in gold stake for sure, even longer than black deck
isnt painted deck in new patch just do jokerless-ish
black deck is pretty rough cuz u need to rely on jokers, and they're the things that are nerfed by the gold stakes
painted only suffers from early eternals
blue seal on painted should be VERY busted
I just don't know how I could have won the runs I end up losing a lot of the time
Scaling jokers are nerfed by the orange stake with addition of perishable jokers, so idea does not exactly work the same way
I mean you could brute force a seed with cleaned jokers, but everyone's against that
Resetting is boring
You can obviously do that but it's not fun
Thought we're making high stakes fun here
not much of an issue
besides the four suits (which should be merged freeing up 3 unique effects) and the plant bosses
I'd argue on that. We're supposed to diversify our deck building to dodge boss counter, but on high stake this isn't always possible
so you build your deck to survive first, and then a boss hard counter it at Ante 6 or 7, ending your run
not sure I'd call it fun
bosses should act as “checks” rather than counters (imo)
runs only die if they are weak
bosses acts as checks to a player’s playstyle / strategy
not exactly
eg amber acorn teaches importance of position
you can't simply check playstyle / strategy when each run is seed-dependent
assuming unseeded we don’t know what’s coming up besides the next boss
Boss rng is why you should leave your possibilities open for as long as possible before committing to a build
valid point
^ except you're constantly limited by the shop and your econ
^ especially on higher stakes
do you think it’s a good idea to merge the four suit bosses’s effects together and free up 3 boss effects?
someone brought up a good suggestion regarding reroll
it should function like shop reroll: Default unlock and maybe costs higher than the current $10. The two vouchers can lower price and increase reroll time
director’s cut is S tier for a lot of people because of these hard counter bosses
with this voucher, you can bail out of a boss that wouldve ended a run
I don't disagree with that. The issue with the current voucher is it's overly pricy
in my opinion, it’s mainly because of the four suit bosses and plant
they aren’t a big issue
but they are some of the boring bosses
all other bosses have some interesting gimmick in them
there are always bosses that end your run prematurely given specific condition
Shoutout to the hook for being cool and interesting
^
my argument is that players should have a better system to counter boss, the current one seem a bit too RNG heavy
valid argument
if I recall correctly, one of the Tarot card in the playtest build has "Disable current boss blind effect"
which could be a good remedy
yeah old fool
but that’s boring
instead of trying to evade the problematic bosses through rerolling, why not change them so that rerolling the bosses is not as necessary as right now
^ the issue is there are endless build in Balatro right now that it's impossible to balance bosses that way
yeah that’s an issue
The Ox is harmless to most build, it specifically targets Bootstrap / Bull deck
and it's Ante 6 boss, you won't know it's coming to avoid it altogether
again, you said that because you probably never built money deck
which is understandable
but like I said, sometimes the seed simply gives you no option
Tbh if you're relying on bootstraps or bull you probably don't care as much about what hands you're playing
that too as they give the base chips and mult
i play anaglyph so sometimes i have a booming econ
and bull bootstraps sometimes shows up
well we're back to the "skill issue" stuff here, so I'll drop the topic
sure thing
Anaglyph Deck and proccing all Double Tags on the Investment Tag before Ox be like:
everyone's saying "play like this, like that, etc" until they land on a bad seed lol
trust me, I saw that too many times
skill on seeded run, fine. Half of that is at RNG's mercy on unseed
so can we drop that already lol
sure sure
let's just take an example on The Golden Needle challenge
Golden Needle + Water?
That's literally "Heaven's Hand or die" situation.
that, and the initial deck was so bad that after 30 cards discarded, you still didn't find your 4-of-a-kind to get past Ante 2 without Joker\
IIRC if you're on Ante 2 without joker you need at least a Straight Flush for that which is worse.
4 Aces only gives you 728 pts
btw opinions on this?
Oh, then yes, 4oak minimum for Ante 1 BB. A-10 (or A-Facecard) Full House caps out at 372pts
yea
I'd suggest "Enhanced cards are debuffed" as a substitute
merge the four suit bosses's effects together
The Medusa "All non-Stone cards are debuffed"
not that type of merge lmao
btw this patch buff Flower Pot to work with debuffed cards
Yeah, that's meant to be a joke. Something like "Random suit gets debuffed, suit changes every hand"
so maybe some effect could enable working with debuff?
something like {random suit in deck weighted by cards} is debuffed, changes every hand sounds fine
so things like Blackboard, Raised Fist, etc... would still work with debuffed cards since they should target the original stats
prob
i have an interesting run here. what is best order u guys think?
also accidental 69 dollars. meme run
fib in second slot?
also i just got sock and buskin in the shop so now im even more confused
depending on how reliably you can use hearts, doubling baseball gets you 1.5^6 = 11.39 effective xMult
but 3 rolls for x2 on average should be more iirc
if you play a heart flush, that's 5 cards with 3 rolls of 50% odds each, meaning the distribution is from + x0 to + x2^15, which is 32768. Your average, since it's a coinflip should be roughly 15/2 = 7.5, which is about x181 most frequently, but there's a lot of variance
so its essentially safer to dupe baseball if i want to be safe is what you are saying right
question regarding ancient joker and castle: is the selected suit synced?
yes basically that's what I meant
I believe they're decided independently
nope, random
Is there any indication of when this patch will make it to mainline?
Soon(tm)
lul, I was about to ask this
bloodstone good
nicee
especially on checkered
I think bloodstone should be rare and ancient be uncommon, just slowly make rares uncommon and uncommons rare XD
Yeah but then all the suit jokers have to be rare
its over
borat voice
rip
OKAY. ALRIGHT SKIP TAG
What is that disgusting border
wow rude
ok then
Negative baseball card goes hard
wish me luck
Why does blueprint look like that
Iirc its a mod for gold stickers?
ez
dont quote me on that
yeah im just texturing all my gold stake jokers gold
2 blueprint would have been insane
yeah i prob couldve lived without it but for no hearts at least it came in clutch
That’s a cool mod
i am considering just skipping the rest of the time so i can bring this to the final boss ngl
ok yeah doin that
Yellow deck gold stake down. All I have left is red, painted, and zodiac
gl with painted and zodiac
I feel like they'll be easier in this patch than what they would've been previously, but yeah I think those are two of the hardest decks outside of black
I suck at the game, but it took me like multiple hours for gold stake painted alone
I had a very bad time with nebula so im bound to say I think nebula used to be worst
if only
I know the madness change was intended to make it more strategic, but especially at black stake and above it's just a nerf. I would much rather it scaled on boss blinds as well.
Disagree, still winnable
It's still a good joker, but I don't think it needed the change
I mean, it sorta needed a nerf for black stake+
+1.5x mult an ante is comparable to legendaries
woo new pb
i can't even blame the game on the loss too, that was me skill issuing
lv40 pair new jokerless meta
the new blue seal is insane, it's so much better than the one on the main branch. They are great if you get them early and only focus on one hand type
lvl 45 4oak, ante 8. Thanks blue seal
i got wrecked by the vessel in jokerless
so close
was some bad shop luck, nothing else
I still haven't taken madness before, i know getting eternals that are solid with it is just badass, but how does it fair on low stakes?
Mhm
since lategame you can get a +mult
for high stakes it's still a pure nerf
for low stakes debatable
On white/red stake you could literally go solo Madness if you grab it in Ante 1, at least before this update
i mean having it upgrade by x1 mult every ante seems more balanced now, can confirm madness hard carries with planet cards pre-patch
warm take: bloodstone should probably be nerfed to like an X1.5 mult or maybe X1.75
ancient joker currently gives about X7.59 while bloodstone can give kinda close to that with the average being X5.66 mult each time, although 3 triggers will give you X8 mult and adding in the fact that all sixes can make the bloodstone trigger guaranteed it just makes it not really an uncommon at this point
X1.75 is a pretty reasonable value because 3 triggers will get you X5.36 mult and 2 triggers can get you X3.06 mult which is pretty reasonable for an uncommon
even at 2 triggers it can be better than something like acrobat, you will most often get 2 triggers anyways
which maybe is a reason why it should go to X1.5 potentially
Actually I agree, considering onyx agate got nerfed and rough gem is still pretty eh, it would make sense to nerf bloodstone a bit
yeah the recent buff made it more consistent but did make it a bit too powerful
id love to keep the reliability but it should be nerfed a bit
X1.5 feels like the best spot for it
also i did not know that acrobat was an uncommon i honestly just never take it
i thought it was common
It works on some challenges, and maybe black deck
Blast off and golden needle in particular
Rough gem could maybe get some buff
Yeah, somehow $5 per hand doesn't feel good enough for it, maybe it should get the bloodstone treatment and have it be random chance for a certain amount of money, maybe like 1 in 2 for $3
I took it early and it helps u to get econ going but I don't think it is on the same level as 250 chips or 35 mult or x4 mult from bloodstone
Or 1 in 2 for $2 maybe
Yeah maybe $3 is good
Also bloodstone does the random thing
Although $15 per hand with sixes is a lot
Ticket exists
True
And it's common
buffing rough gem to $2 outright is almost not unreasonable
but what probably happens is other economy cards get nerfed back into shape
because what the fuck is mail in rebate doing
gem can be buffed to 3 and it still can't compete with rebate
Bloodstone's RNG is janky enough I don't think it need further nerf lol
like Misprint, it always betray you when you needed it the most =))
Castle is really hit or miss
got a favorable discard, it scale very fast
otherwise, it's pretty much useless lol
castle smeared is nutty
otherwise meh
btw, did Castle work with Smeared Joker?
i will only take castle with smeared but i will only take smeared if i have castle
it is very sad
well Smeared is all around good for Flush build, so it's worth taking in early games
except flushes suck
it sucks yes but it's the only reliable hand to get out of the first 2 Ante without Jokers
love it or hate it you'll still have to rely on it every now and then
straights !!!
castle is not that bad if you're willing to use your hands just to find more of the suit
ie high card build lol
i disagree (reversion back to 1/3 is better i think), if it goes to x1.5 i feel like it would lean into heart / club as the deferred choice for mult.. cause spade / diamond is chips/dollars; is it okay that every suit have a specialization for their respective upgraded sinful joker?
tbh ive used bloodstone a few times, and still 1/2 doesnt seem overpowered tho. ive had plenty of 1/2 chance flushes only return one x2
its so hard to balance a randomized game tho, idk any better
plus retriggers may or may not result in many broken combo. Bloodstone is fine with 1/2, even if Oops All Six can guarantee x2, you still need 2 Jokers for this single buff
it's the same as The Idol x2 on a specific card, it's completely broken once you convert your deck to said single card
btw, I've been wondering for a while, but did anyone test Royal Flush + Straight Flush against The Mouth & The Eye?
gem can be retriggered, but yeah, overall rebate is more versatile
Eh, I disagree. I had a run with 2 bloodstones since ante 2 and that alone gave me 40k+ per round on average, by the time RNG from bloodstone underperforming mattered I got to manip entire deck to be mostly hearts and was able to just flush house my way to win, even ante 7 head couldn't stop it lol
while 2 onyx agates with level 1-4 flush and even steven (one of the jokers I also had) would give you under 10k
its the same thing in code, royal flush just has different display, I dont expect them to behave differently
eye
mouth
card sharp i think
?
the game can tell difference between Royal Flush and Straight Flush, so there's definitely a hidden hand type in this matter. What I'm curious about is if The Mouth and The Eye boss blind will lock you in/out of Straight Flush if you happen to play Royal Flush as your 1st hand, or vice versa
again, this is for experiment purpose
again, I checked the code
there's no custom deck feature to test that out, someone just had to find a seed for that
two unlocks requires you to play and discard Royal Flush, so the game does check for that hand type
how many more proof do you need
I'm not asking for proof, I'm simply asking if anyone has tested this
we can't argue Royal Flush = Straight Flush if the boss says otherwise lol
royal flush is considered a straight flush
^ again, that's what we proceed as, since there's only one planet
that's why I ask if anyone's tested it against those boss blind (yet)
there's no need to test we have access to the code
and that ^
Ehh true but you're relying on eternal
Head?
no I just didnt have enough hearts or scoring
had to go for it tho
i really suck at gold stake in general
im trying to play slower but it doesnt seem to be helping I just die ante 3 or 4 if I dont get good scaling anyway
what are your win rates for gold on this patch approximately
Hey! Any news on the motion sickness changes? With all the messages i couldn't keep up 😕
"- Added toggle for 'Reduced Motion', removing the swirly background and gyrating card motion"
or something else?
We talked about it a while ago, including with the dev. He said he would make more changes to it, since for some people it still triggered the motion sickness
I had pretty high win rate on green red and blue decks, black deck still feels like a wall to me, so now I skipped it to do magic deck and further
oh riiiip, I got that on a recent gold stake run, it popped off I think. Or did I die? I don't remember lmao
no I'm pretty sure I won with it.
I remember also picking up the hearts joker alongside it
Lusty the moral support
nah nah, it's dope, bc the +mult happens before the doubling (if you position the jokers correctly)
icic
But it does not matter after 1st card
If x2 is guaranteed
From bloodstone
i mean the second card is also kind of relevant right
A bit
Depends on hand level
Say you have level 4 flush with 10 mult, it goes 10 - 13 - 26 - 29 - 48.
at high hand level the first one doesn't really matter, either
It's Gold stake so I don't expect it very high
as in "there are much better things you could do with that joker slot if you find them"
hmm
alright, yeah, I see the point now that you've given the numbers
rip lol
ah well, that run is in the past now anyway. I'll try to keep that in mind for future runs where I get that specific synergy lol
Another gold stake win 😎
Crazy how Runner+Stencil alone is enough for winning
even brought one joker for gold sticker
new straights are broken
Higher level straight does not need the runner
Could have like blue seal and just stencil
got no blue seal or telescope the whole run, so thats kinda sad
I like the straight buff a lot
Straights were already good, now they're broken, lol
I never play straight build before, now I go for straights instead of flushes as a go-to hand
it is harder to make straights easier to make, so its balanced imo
for 4 of a kinds and higher, you just dupe one card
for straights, its not that straight forward
For the challenges, the last one currently is not working properly. One of the banned packs is offered in the first shop. Is there were we post issues like that or is it somewhere else?
It is a known issue
Thank you, was not sure where to find it that, looked for a bit then posted.
It was reported here and in #1200105253559873707 iirc
But usually experimental bugs are expected to be posted here
Idk if thunk actively checks this thread for bugs tho
But he did ask to post issues here, so that's what I've been doing
Genuine question: Is it just me or is high card still the best thing you can be doing in the game?
High card is still meta, but its less likely to find a high card build early because both perishable and rental are really hard to take early
and bloodstone makes flush very viable
High card and Pair are best scaling hands you pivot to if you get the right Jokers to support them
Well yeah, but every build is less likely to find now
just lost a run with Two Pair build because I didn't manage to get 2 pairs on my final hand lol
In fact, I'd say other builds are more hurt by the new changes than high card imho
and people say this is a skill issue lol
half of the runs are dictated by what the seed gives you
There's tons of jokers that synergize very well with high card but relatively fewer that work with straights, flushes or 5oak
Like if you're building a flush run and you find a perishable Family you kinda got robbed. And if your x mults are stuff like vampire, constellation and baseball card then you very well could have played a high card build this run
oh god not the vampire vs. constellation again...
in the expermental build I never pick it up since it's so bad now with 3 nerfs
meanwhile good ol' Constellation just skyrocket
After a certain point the run 1000% comes down to what X mult you get. And high card just has more x mult cards than any other build
They're both great and I don't think I've passed a single non-perishable Constellation or Vampire
nah, I'd argue that you have a much harder time to scale new Vampire now
Baseball Card incompatible means you lose out on free 1.5x as well
Ive been running a lot of Vampire and winning with it basically every time I picked it up
I still think it's a great card just not game-breaking
Organizing the x mult jokers in the game by how much they care about high card; thoughts?
(high card here means high card / pair / two pair and possibly 3oak)
Black board can be taken on ante 7/8 if you happen to be able to float a club/spade tarot, or are in clubs/spade flush. Ramen is also very usable in flush builds.
Liscence is probably better in flushes than not, since flushes love on play effects the value of enhancing cards inside your heart flush is very high relatively.
Acrobat is better for flushes than high card but that's not exactly the scale so its fine. I would move photograph to bad, as well. You need pluto to the MOON to play it, same with pair its just +1 mult per planet.
club+non club for pair builds is actually very good, i would put it higher but you're also mentioning high card so idk. Flower pot + splash with high card is a thing, idk how to feel tho 2 joker spaces for a x3 is like barely worth it.
To win a run you roughly need:
A source of chips
~30-60 mult
Quite a few x Mult sources
With that in mind why would you ever run anything else when most sources of x Mult don't care what hand you're playing and a few get much much better if you're playing a low value hand?
I'll be honest, I probably am more scared of Seeing Double than I should be
Liscence is probably better in flushes than not, since flushes love on play effects the value of enhancing cards inside your heart flush is very high relatively.
Alternatively, not having to use the suit-changing tarot cards means you get to have a lot more of your tarot packs be converted into enhanced cards, no? + Marble Joker is essentially free in setting Driver's License up
The big point is that we have exactly 5 times mult cards that require you to be playing a hand better than 3oak. And most builds only get one of these exclusive jokers
I think we need more cards like The Family, The Tribe or The Order to encourage us to play higher scoring hands rather than the lower ones
There's a lot of stuff that makes me say "I wanna do a flush / full house / straight" build early on but very very few stuff I see on the shop makes me go "time to lock in flush / full house / 4oak / straight rather than go high card"
Why does madness prefer hc
Low hands have low mult scaling, I feel like madness prefers smth like straights
All the jokers that care about other builds die I guess
You need eternal jokers for madness to pop off and you really can't be picky with these in a madness run so high card is more consistent
Yes so straights are more consistent?
I can see the argument for that
what are your win rates on new gold stake so far
On runs that it escapes ante 1/2, I'd say ~25% win rate
If not a little higher
it takes me like an hour per completion lol
fair lol
i tried to make a flush house build with vagabond burglar early work but I didnt get any econ tarots from vagabond
vagabond was perishable
Another run got carried by bloodstone
sock and buskin + bloodstone
had photograph early, but it was perishable, then I switched to glass cards, and managed to survive long enough til bloodstone appeared, from then it was an easy W
the only runs I get far on are just stacking scaling jokers like I did before
woot blue deck gold stake ✅
done w Red, Blue, Black, Nebula, Ghost, Abandoned, Checkered, Zodiac, Anaglyph, Plasma, Erratic
rip
yeah i need to stop taking rental jokers early even if they're tempting
just hit a scalable econ joker w blueprint and farm money to make up for rental
ngl I hold R if my first boss is the Pillar
just sucks, I don't want to face it on ante 1
... and I feel like maybe this is irrational. Like, could it really debuff as many cards as one of the anti-suit bosses (against one of the non-altered decks)?
I mean it doesnt matter if you get + multi
yeah
also if you one shot both rounds you play less than the 13 suits a suit disabling boss does
so if you play flushes to win then it is a better boss
idk if one-shotting the big blind is consistent
in fact I doubt it is, unless you do find a +mult joker
You need a 4oak to oneshot big blind
or straight flush
unless you also don't see a planet...
then thats just unlucky, but even then thats just 15 cards disabled vs 13
for 2 hands, which is pretty likely (probably)
yes, but on the other hand, if you've played good enough hands to win both blinds with 15 cards (~3 hands most likely) then you've probably played your good cards
a number of things can beat the small blind pretty easily, like a flush or a full house with high ranking cards, but those are the cards that'll show up disabled against the pillar
you can play 4oak aces against the big blind, if you want all your aces to be disabled against the pillar... but that doesn't sound like a good time to me
I see what you are saying
but if you dont get a SINGLE good planet/plus multi or even something like icecream for + chips thats unlucky
does baseball card work off debuffed jokers? trying to decide if i should skip right to the boss blinds
also skipping exists, and is SUPER good early with new update
it won't work on debuffed jokers, no
think of baseball card as basically giving your uncommon jokers polychrome
if they're debuffed jokers, the polychrome won't trigger
skipping is tricky on ante 1, idk. If you skip small blind, then you can still get the money from big blind but your odds of clearing it in one hand are... bad. And you definitely can't get the voucher from the shop after beating the first small blind, so if you are deciding to skip big blind, then you're also deciding to lose out on the first voucher (which could be pretty good, but you'd at least have seen it by the time you make the decision)
I mean I dont try and 1 shot big blind
yeah me neither lol
Like since holographic tags makes the joker free, skipping small blind for that is insanely good imo
as long as you win the "risk" and beat the big blind you just win the next 2 antes hopefully, unless the joker is rental in which case you cry
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
@rocky oar what gold sticker legendary do you not have?
that way we can know what legendary it is
XD then its any of them ig
ok then
Idk how your build is, but bloodstone would mean an instant win, the best legendary to get is probably Canio
since as long as you get 1 hanged man thats 3x multi and you have less cards in deck
I like Triboulet as a legendary as well, very easy to manipulate the deck towards kings and queens. Plus sock and buskin and/or hanging chad makes it very broken
true
but in their scenario with them being ante 8 and the fact that they have eternal pants makes me think Canio is better atm
"-the fact that they have eternal pants-" I love Balatro so much
With baseball card though Trib could get you super high scores. I think either would be great
one thing that makes me slightly dissatisfied with the legendary jokers is that 2 of them are severely nerfed in abandoned deck
Trib might be better for endless, but Canio for the free gold stake win
they're not outright useless, but they are much less easy to use
unless you get pareidolia
in which case... one of them regains its use?
even then Triboulet is still horrible
triboulet*
and Canio just becomes broken if you get enough cards
mb, Ive been doing bug hunting with troubador 😅
how do you guys feel about that one legendary that I can't remember the name of
chicot
I have only gotten it once, and I won
that's not terribly surprising
it does remove a lot of the challenge
chicot is weird, because like... idk, I think it's interesting in a way, but I also think it's incredibly boring
like, it's interesting that a joker has that ability, because it's kind of an unexpected ability, but I also think that ability is maybe bad for the gameplay experience?
you could sell it, but who the heck gets rid of a legendary joker? you're almost ALWAYS going to sell a joker just to make room for it if you have to
Id need to play more with it
I think it would be funny if it stacked with copying jokers and being duplicated
how would that work
for some effects atleast
