#Hard counter bosses

agreed
the bosses aren't very well balanced as they stand now
not to mention i dislike the bosses that affect your run outside of during the blind
like the tooth, the arm and verdant leaf
BRO?
(joke)
i was gonna say leaf isn't that bad except for endless but
how tf do you get a joker sticker if you roll leaf
thats just not gonna happen
leaf should restore the sold joker during the end of round phase
so you can still get a joker sticker from it
have bosses affect every build with no hard counters
this is really hard to do
yeah
there's only so many bosses you could make that affect all builds
i think more stuff with face down cards would be good
yeah i know
the mark and the plant
but something like the pillar but with facedown cards could be an interesting boss
so you have to pay attention to what cards you play during the ante
out of the current boss blinds
only about half of them can affect every build
i am on the fence with the eye/the mouth
they don't target any specific build but certain builds will be much better/worse against them
i also didn't count ox because it'll always target your most played hand
which i think is pretty cool but doing too much of that would oversaturate the boss pool
yeah
there are some key changes i would make though
i think some things other than debuffing and flipping cards would be nice to add more variety to the bosses
somebody mentioned once
merge all the suit jokers into one boss
that rolls a random suit out of the suits in your deck each hand played
ah
i think that would be a really nice change
yeah i like that idea
also a boss idea i've just come up with
enhancements have no effect (steel/lucky/mult/wild/bonus/glass/stone)
doesn't target a specific build and shouldn't be too bad unless you're exclusively relying on enhancements, which doesn't happen that often
i think it'd be neat to have a boss which had like
1x base chips (same as needle)
but its effect is "next boss chip requirement is doubled"
interesting
you get a warning for it 5 rounds in advance
so like it's a normal blind when you first encounter it
yeah
but it has effects in the future
but the next boss you encounter has its score doubled
interesting idea
would not be compatible with wall or vessel
figures
i.e you wouldn't be able to get that boss -> wall or vessel on the next one
or instead it could increase the times base by 2 instead of multiplying the base by 2
so it could still work with wall and vessel
but i think it would also make sense to keep it from appearing in the second to last ante
that will still have the same multiplicitive effect
since the final bosses are hard enough as is
no like the wall would go from x4 to x6 instead of x4 to x8
it should be simple to understand at a surface level
yeah
there's plenty of builds and joker setups that don't care about cards being debuffed, also even if you sell joker, its literally only one sticker, also what's the point of the leaf if the sold joker is gonna be restored?
leaf is a final boss it literally won't matter unless you're playing endless
yeah
it just makes getting joker stickers a tiny bit easier
as it is getting leaf as the final boss sucks because it can ruin your build for endless
and makes getting joker stickers harder
especially for the higher stakes since its rare you get a winning run on those
you might as well roll violet vessel and lose all of your stickers because this blind is a bitch and 90% of the times a run killer on higher stakes
choose one
okay but like
we're here to fix the bosses we could fix that too
we dont have to choose one
how could it be improved 🤔
replacing its effect wouldn't be that bad generally
it's already a duplicate of the wall anyway
overall i think it's a fine blind
but just not for purple+
so now tell me is it stake issue or blind issue
yeah
not to mention less heavy rng reliance in higher stakes
but thats off topic
this is about the bosses
I think most bosses are fine, plant might need a rework since there's no way around it
the only other ones that might need it are suit debuffers, but those aren't as bad
you could just... leave the cards debuffed
that was my point lul
there's high chance that one's setup doesn't care about debuffed cards
BTW for opinion about Run affecting boss blinds, they're actually really good for the game, might need some limitations (making tooth only reduce your money down to zero instead of it being able to go into the negatives) but otherwise, very really good way to prevent endless builds from being so good
