When a negative card is drawn from your deck, it does not contribute to hand size. So if you have a hand size of 7, and your 7th drawn card is negative, you will draw an eighth card. Essentially gives a temporary, +1 hand size for that turn when drawn, until it is played or discarded. Would be extremely powerful, not exactly balanced :V
#Enhancement idea: Negative playing cards

It would be really cool if it also didn't count towards played hand size as well, so you could play 6 cards in one hand if one of them was negative
yeah, be able to make a 6+ of a kind or a Flush Six+
would be a lot of work to implement but would be cool ya
6 card hands is too much
its never too much
Love the idea of negative cards but not 6 of a kind, can you image a deck full of steel negative king's with baron + mime
exactly
Negative cards are a great idea that has been suggested many times, only problem is that they’re weak. 6+ card hands are never gonna happen.
I think additional hand size is one of the most impactful upgrades in Balatro, negative cards would be very strong, especially built around steel/in-hand effects
Paintbrush has got to be one of the most autobuy vouchers in the game
have you SEEN how good Painted Deck is in later antes?
goddd imagine just having 20 negative redseal steel cards.
If you only have a few, they're not as good because you have to draw them
Same with every other kind of enhanced card, but there are lots of ways to duplicate and remove cards
Actually, I agree. I’m all in favour of negative cards increasing hand size, I’m jus repeating what others have said
wait, Hand size, or playable Card size
because im under the impression its for playable cards
hand size
hand size
iirc in order for negative cards to be played without increasing (played) hand size, the game checks for every possible combination within the hand and gives the best of what we have so far (up to Flush Five)
that way, no one has to take the time to think of every possible hand combo
It's a cool idea but it would be completely broken if it can scale infinitely. It would have to be impossible to get more than a few negative playing cards in your deck.
I think it would work best as a deck. You get 3 or 4 negative cards at the start of a run and it's impossible to get any more. Copying a card wouldn't copy the negative effect just like jokers.
The foil, holographic and polychrome decks were removed because they were too reset heavy
You know what else is completely broken if it can scale infinitely? Purple seals
I think negative playing cards would be fine if they were uncopiable, though I'm not sure how useful they'd be
The major issue is that they're either really good with enough of them and a steel build, or just terrible if you don't get many
That's how it is for all editions on playing cards, really
hear me out...
Negative jokers give -1 hand size, stacking per ectoplasm used
I suggest cards do the same to jokers, but always -1 joker slot instead of -1, -2, etc...
perkeo moment
That's why purple seals should trigger like blue seals imo. You should have to hold them in your hand at the end of a round for them to trigger.
could simply having as card type so cant be steel and negative
purple seals can't scale infinitely tho?
death
I think it would make sense for death and cryptid to do the Removes Negative from copy thing
I think that it should have a glass like effect, when it has some chance to be removed. Also it could be called like torn card (so it needs less space because it’s torn), and then a chance for removal would actually make sence
question: if you have a hand size of 8, you have 8 cards in hand and the top card of your deck is negative, do you draw it or not?
