Chicot is very weak for a legendary, so I though it would be cool if instead of disabling all boss effect, it reverses all boss effects, except final boss blinds, which just get disabled.
-The hook: Draw 2 extra cards for every hand played
-The 0x: Playing (most played hand) gives you $5
-The house: You can see the next (hand size) cards you will draw after the first draw
-The Wall: Extra small blind (0.5x base)
-The wheel: For each draw card get a 1/7 chance to see one card drawn after
-The arm: Increase level of played poker hand
-The club: All club cards get retriggered
-The fish: After each played hand, see as many cards to be drawn next as you have drawn
-The psychic: Final score gets doubled if 5 cards are played
-The goad: All spade cards get retriggered
-The water: Start with double your discards
-The window: All diamond cards get debuffed
-The menacle: +1 Hand size
-The eye: Doubles final score for all hand types played before
-The mouth: Doubles final score for all hand types you didn't play before
-The plant: Retrigger all face cards
-The serpant: After played hand or discard always draw 5 cards
-The pillar: Cards played before this ante get retriggered
-The needle: Double you hands
-The head: All heart cards get retriggered
-The tooth: Gain $1 for each card played
-The flint: Base chips and mult are doubled
-The mark: For each draw face card, see one card to be drawn next

some of these effects are not the exact reverse of the original bosses (which i understand), but assuming the effect of Chicot becomes this, the effects rather become ambiguous

#

also chicot is great utility, disabling a boss entirely is pretty powerful support

rare remnant
#

I like it

ashen smelt
hexed sable
#

the other legendaries are still somewhat specific on what builds you can use them in

#

if you're not running face cards what's the kings and queens give 2x mult gonna do for you

#

chicot is unconditional and guarantees a win most of the time

#

no bosses countering builds

#

just score big thats all you gotta do

ashen smelt
#

But the boss blind effect are generally not that big of a deal and if they are, there is always directors cut

hexed sable
#

directors cut doesn't always show up and yes they are a big deal

#

boss blinds are half the challenge of the game

#

also directors cut costs $10 to buy and $10 to use

#

so it's a $20 investment and you might roll into a worse boss blind

ashen smelt
#

I still don't think it's strong enough for a legendary.

hexed sable
#

it is strong enough for a legendary

ashen smelt
#

I don't think taking up a joker slot for disabling boss blinds is good enough for a legendary.

hexed sable
#

it is fine

median crown
#

Personally I think it's the weakest legendary which isn't to say it's bad persay but I think it does deserve a minor buff. Generally I think that legendaries are rare enough that I personally think they should almost always be build defining, which the others are.

hexed sable
#

if anything chicot is more powerful than the others because it works with EVERY build

#

except matador for economy but there's better options cmon

median crown
#

One suggested buff that I've heard people mention for Chicot would be to leave the effect the same but make it inherently have negative which I personally think is a fun idea. I think having a joker that's inherently negative is a good idea but an effect that strong deserves to be on only a legendary.

hexed sable
#

i think it's being oversaturated
chicot doesn't need to change

median crown
#

Perhaps you could be right

#

:p

hexed sable
#

worst case if the legendary won't work with your build you can sell it for $10

#

which will almost always give you a refund on the pack you got it from

#

but if you can go without that joker slot you get a free carry

median crown
#

Yea I guess, but I get legendaries rarely enough I want to be able to use them when I get them 😖

hexed sable
#

be glad you don't get the facecard ones in a run with the abandoned deck

#

chicot has the benefit of always being applicable

#

all runs will encounter boss blinds you don't need a specific card to benefit from it

median crown
hexed sable
#

what if you get the boss blind that debuffs face cards

#

if only you had chicot 🤔

#

woulda disabled it

median crown
#

Yes, Red Seal Poly Queen is my nickname btw

#

I just don't think that boss blinds are "that" bad. Like I feel like each run has a fairly low chance at running into a boss that actually threatens it and even so having any times mult card is usually more helpful at beating the blind expept in the rare case the boss is a direct counter to your build.

hexed sable
#

it doesn't always have to be a direct counter

#

your run could still get crippled by the tooth for example

#

maybe you really needed that money to keep up

median crown
#

Like the times I've needed to disable a boss blind have only been at most once a run which is why Luchadore is well balenced

#

Yea but if I had more mult I'd just beat the tooth in one hand and lose less money that way ya know?

hexed sable
#

if the boss was disabled you wouldn't lose

#

any money

median crown
#

Why did I think niche was spelled nitche lol

#

Yea, money usually isn't a big issue for me, not to focus too much on a niche example you came up with

hexed sable
#

the english language is 3 languages stacked in a trench coat pretending to be one

#

that's why

hexed sable
#

it still got nerfed

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

median crown
#

I was an english major I should know these things

#

I still think Chicot is a little weak but you've convinced me it's better than I felt before this

hexed sable
#

maybe it could gain xmult per boss disabled if it REALLY needs something

median crown
#

I'm still going to be a lil disappointed if I draw it early in a run tho u can't stop me

hexed sable
#

while i don't think that's necessary it's a clean buff

#

more clean than reversing boss effects at least

median crown
#

Oh I agree for sure, that's why I think that making it inherently negative would be the cleanest buff

hexed sable
#

nah

#

invisible joker could make a non negative one

median crown
#

Becasue the real issue with it is while the effect is good it's often not good enough to dedicate a joker slot too

hexed sable
#

i don't think the idea of a card that inherently has an enhancement is needed

#

having it gain 0.2x mult per boss disabled would avoid enhancement issues

#

it's still good for any build cause xmult is crazy good

median crown
#

Not needed??? Aren't we here in theory crafting land rn?

hexed sable
#

maybe 0.25x mult or 0.5x at an extreme

#

all builds can benefit from that

median crown
#

Oh!

#

Ok what if it let you chose at the start of each boss to either disable or not and if you don't disable to boss blind then it get's like +0.25x mult but if you do then it's disabled for that blind?

hexed sable
#

too complicated

median crown
#

Bah, you're no fun

hexed sable
#

if a card needs a separate UI element to work then it's too much

median crown
#

What's the seperate UI element?

#

Every single effect I just described is an established ablity in the game currently

hexed sable
#

choosing one out of 2 effects of a joker

#

is not a thing that exists

median crown
#

Just put that choice up in the same place where the reroll blind button is

#

"Disable Blind"

hexed sable
#

"put that choice in the same place as an existing UI element"

#

i just want you to read that over again

loud fern
#

that is too complicated for one joker

#

a jokers effect should not need dedicated ui

median crown
#

An existing UI element that you rarely get

hexed sable
#

still an existing UI element

median crown
#

This seems really feasable to me....

past dust
#

i think making chicot just give you 1 more joker slot is a good idea

median crown
#

That's the same as it being negative

past dust
#

it's not only the weakest legendary, but, even worse, the most boring legendary

#

yeah that's what i'm saying

#

that was a good idea

#

i think with other legendaries you get to have really fun runs because your build becomes way more powerful

#

but with chicot, instead of getting stronger, you weaken yourself and just weaken the game more

#

which is just kind of boring

#

and a lot of the time disabling a boss blind is much less impactful than having a build-around effect that makes your deck skyrocket, as others have said

median crown
#

I agree but I think Mara does make a good point that Chicot is more generally useful on any run though.

hexed sable
#

instead of strengthening your build it makes the boss blinds weaker

#

which still gives you better chances of winning

past dust
#

yeah thats true, but i think that its just not really type of gameplay experience a legendary joker should produce

#

i don't want a legendary that limits my build and just makes the game easier to compensate

#

i want a legendary joker that opens up a cool new path for my build to go down

median crown
hexed sable
#

claustrophobic

median crown
hexed sable
#

too much going on in a small space

median crown
#

U r trolling me

hexed sable
#

there's a label and two buttons all crammed in the same spot

median crown
#

??????????????

hexed sable
#

it's not in any way clear it's associated with the legendary

past dust
#

it would probably be clear it's associated with the legendary because you didnt have it before you got the legendary

median crown
#

I mean neither is the other button???? There's nothing tying that too the voucher

hexed sable
#

it says what it does on the button

#

reroll boss $10

#

it doesn't need explanation

median crown
#

SO DO THE BUTTON I MADE

#

You click it and the boss blind is disabled

#

Extremely simple

hexed sable
#

i mean you disable the boss like "why wouldnt you disable the boss if theres a button for it? that doesn't make sense, why would you NOT disable it"

past dust
#

i dont understand the complaint

median crown
#

But you can just read Chicot

past dust
#

if you have a joker that says "press button to disable boss blind this ante, if button is not pressed, gain X0.whatever mult at the end of this ante"

#

and then you see a big button that says

hexed sable
#

you overestimate the intelligence of the average person

past dust
#

"disable boss blind"

hexed sable
past dust
#

what possible room is there to misunderstand

#

its associated with the joker

#

by the fact you didn't have it before

#

and then you got the joker

#

and the button showed up

median crown
#

She's trolling me and she's succeeding😭

#

Discord auto correct is ASS

hexed sable
#

i'm not trolling this just isn't a great place to put a second button

median crown
#

Girl, the button is IDENTICAL to the voucher button in all ways expept a minor change to how it works

hexed sable
#

what would be more applicable would be a use button on the joker

#

like a use button on a planet or tarot card

past dust
hexed sable
#

click on the joker, click "use" to use it

past dust
#

that button could do anything

median crown
#

There's even precendent because of the voucher that anyhting that interacts with the boss blind would be placed in that box up there

past dust
#

it could delete system32 for all you know

hexed sable
median crown
#

I'm losing my mind

past dust
#

but how would you even know which joker it refers to

hexed sable
#

itself

past dust
#

maybe "this joker" is actually the name of another joker

hexed sable
#

it's the only one with a use button

past dust
#

and it's just telling you there's some other joker you can use to disable the boss blind

hexed sable
#

so you'd be able to tell since it isn't highlighted

past dust
#

what if its just highlighted in the exact same color as the other text

hexed sable
#

well now you're arguing semantics that would be bad game design

#

but it wouldn't be an issue with my implementation

#

it would be an issue with the game's handling of referencing names

past dust
#

im just saying theres no way to know

hexed sable
#

there is

#

the name, "the fool" is highlighted

#

i conveniently got the fool in my current run

#

at this very moment

#

balatro got my back

median crown
#

U r the fool that's why u got it

past dust
#

why would the button say that you can use the fool to disable the boss blind though

hexed sable
#

you guys are trying to reverse what you think I was doing but rather than bring up genuine criticism you're trolling in a super obvious and avoidable manner

past dust
#

i mean i just think the argument is a little sily

median crown
#

Don't call me a guy

past dust
#

if you have a joker that says "you can press a button to disable the boss blind"

#

and then a button shows up that says "press this and disable the boss blind"

#

which wasn't there before

hexed sable
#

"use this joker to disable the boss blind"
clicks on joker and clicks use

past dust
#

people aren't gonna think it was a blessing from zeus

#

it came from the joker

hexed sable
#

why would zeus

#

the god of thunder

#

give you a button

past dust
#

some things we'll just never know

loud fern
median crown
#

But don't you see how having a joker with a use button is a bigger UI change than adding another button in the established space that buttons to mess with boss blinds go

hexed sable
#

planets and tarots have use buttons

past dust
#

i do think that would probably be about as confusing though

hexed sable
#

you click the joker and a "Use" tab shows up

#

(hi cavendish :D)

past dust
#

using a tarot or planet or spectral consumes it

#

so if you're worried about people getting confused, wouldn't you be worried that people would assume using Chicot would get rid of their legendary joker?

#

i don't think it's a huge issue but i don't see how it's less confusing than just having a new UI button

hexed sable
#

basic intelligence would have you go "wait but that's just luchador but you don't get the money from it, why is it legendary"

#

which leads to "if it's not permanent it's a scam"

past dust
#

would basic intelligence also not have you go "wow this new button is probably from the joker that says it gives me a button"

#

or is that like

#

the next IQ strata

hexed sable
#

you'd be surprised, we're both hitting above average here
