which just hard counters every other build
but yeah what they said
I just thought it was cool cus straights are underrated
really terrible late game unfortunately...
Itâs actually evil late game
local doesn't wont bosses that hard counter builds and makes you lose instantly late game
"straights are underrated", I would like to speak to your manager
hence why most of the bosses are being put up on the cutting board and revamped
actually most people do not like straights your right, but I do
It would force you to have the legendary joker that remove boss effects or be able to play straights (for late game)*
well
again...
it'll hard counter any other build that doesn't have any of these requirements
EXACTLY
which is what local doesnt WANT...
but 4 fingers might help
this makes me think of a joker (If hand doesnt contain a straight discard all cards not close to a straight) but prob impossible to code

That was the issue with the old bosses, they hard countered specific strategies so much that you couldn't possibly win against them with some builds
đ
someone doesn't read quotes
every boss should be winnable, you only lose if your build is weak in general
I did đ„Č
late game harder doesnt equal making hard counter bosses
Also youâre completely ignoring the joker that gets rid of boss effects
well
Something that youâd need for late game
you might not even get it
so that's a problem
(if you do it's fine but most liekly you wont, considering how rare this is)
idk% chance for spectral pack
2/12 or 3/12 when opening spectral
Thatâs your problem
but using one joker that you might not even MEET in the run as a justification to counter this boss is not a solution
runs shouldn't die because the boss hard counters you
im not in making late game harder through this method
unfortunately
By the time you made making a straight physically impossible you should have thought of it
Here are the litmus tests for boss blinds
Crayon: Is the concept simple
Calculator: does it incentivize an external calculator tool
Pen and Paper: Does it incentivize writing information down
Hard counter: Do you just lose if you face this boss with a common build
Balance: Effect should be somewhere between neutral and tragic depending on the run
Since when is making straights impossible a âcommon buildâ
five oak build
full house build
two pair build
flush build
all of these builds dont incentivize in making five consecutive numbers
Two pair build is the stupidest thing Iâve ever heard
Crayon: â
simple enough
Calculator: â
no calculator
Pen and Paper â
no need for writing down info
Hard counter: â
counters over half the common buils
Balance: â
well you never tried it
Thatâs because itâs too stupid
Two pair build would just be a worse full house build
to go for it as not many jokers in the demo support that build
not really depending on the build tho
constellation with telescope voucher & planets
with a scaling joker and xmult joker its the same thing
Youâre getting really mad at a suggestion I made
but more versatile as you just need two pairs
Like geez
You went sicko mode on the entire idea without giving it a second thought
This suggestion has 80 messages on it
it's like the pillar, the house, the arm
(every time i get into an argument like this i usually get the thread to 100 messages)
just to prove a point that should be obv (at least to me)
just throwing out my opinion out there
The fact that this became an argument at all is kinda showing how one sided you are
Like bro, it was a SUGGESTION
ik
it's a suggestion
to sum things up, making a boss that hard counters the majority of builds is not the best idea, as it affects UX in general, and can rather make some runs end in a pretty anticlimatic way (and also rather unsatisfying)
Perfect boss blind:
Gives you a calculus question
You have to solve it(Calculator)
You must recite the problem 20 minutes later after beating this blind(Pen & Paper)
You must not play Full Houses and Flush Houses(Crayon + Hard Counter)100% chance to immediately lose after scoring required chips, chance is reduced by 0.7% for each digit in your final score(Balance)
The f u c k you blind
^
So, does that mean a good boss blind needs to answer "yes" to the crayon, Hard counter, and Balance questions and "no" to the Calculator and Pen and Paper questions?
i believe itâs ânoâ for the hard counter based on localthunkâs words (because no you donât want to lose just because you got hard countered with a common build, makes game unfun and is unfair due to luck)
everything else you said is correct
I was thinking that a boss blind that debuffs all duplicate cards (except for the first instance of that card drawn).
This answers "yes" to the crayon question (one card of a rank and suit is not debuffed)
This answers "no" to the calculator and pen and paper questions (You don't need to calculate or remember much)
I am not sure if it answers "no" to the hard counter question (Flush houses and 5 of a kind might suffer from this boss)
This answers "yes" to the balance question (most starting decks are unaffected by this boss)
debuff isnt that bad compared to straight up âyeets emâ
tbh idk if itâs a hard counter
only disables enhancements and chip gain on cards
and by duplicate cards i assume âsame rank & same suitâ only
if enhancements are part of the uniqueness of the card, then i believe the boss is def not a hard counter
