Btw ignore what just happened
7/11 was -4 months ago
Please
Understand me
I'm from thailand and we use dd:mm:yy đ
Lol I was assuming that ||you most certainly did not write mm:dd:yy in the suggestion post||
Oh wait
Am I that drunk rn
**Boss: Tangerine Hourglass **
Effect: Applies a different debuff after each hand, in this order.
-Minus 1 Discard
-Minus 1 Hand
-Score Required goes up by 0.1x per discarded card.
-Minus 2 Hand Size
-Random Joker disabled
-All Cards Debuffed
-Game Over.
Reward: $10
Base Score: 2x Base
It counts down you see
I think this could be streamlined to be a more interesting challenge.
I think the idea of a Boss Blind that changes effect after each hand could be interesting as you could choose to tackle a particular effect by spending Hands. But as is itâs just a bunch of different effects that arenât thematically connected to each other.
Rather than proposing a rework, Iâm just gonna comment on whatâs there.
First I would have the Discard penalty first, since you could just spend all your discards before the second Hand.
Second I donât see why this has a 3x Score requirement. According to the wiki most bosses have 2x requirement except for the Bosses whose effect is a larger than usual requirement, and AFAIK the Boss that has a limit of only one Hand to be beaten.
Oh
First, I agree the discards should be first
But the idea I had behind it is it slowly removes features of the game from the least important to most important
Maybe it could have an even more evil effect
Also its a bigger blind so you have to play more hands
I'm thinking of how to change the dynamics of it
Like what typically happens turn 2 I can interrupt?
Turn 1 you'd play your best hand presumably
And then turn 3, so on and so forth
Just to make it as hard but balanced as possible
Thinking of the Hourglass theme, I had a completely different idea for a Boss effect
Alright go ahead
The Score required increases for each card that leaves your deck
Hmmmmm
I like that too
Any idea on the scaling of that?
I mean the effect is simple enough
I could implement it into the effect as one of the rounds, like after round 3 the required score goes up based on how many cards have left the deck
I still want the countdown feature
I was thinking x0.1 per card. So after drawing your first hand itâs x2.8 the base Score
Someone had also suggested a Boss Blind with an effect centered around real world time. I donât like that idea personally but you can use it too
Or maybe it was a challenge rather than a Boss
That's interesting
I'm not super down with that concept but it's cool for sure
I changed the effect and made it 6 rounds until game over, on the 7th, game over.
Reason: Bad word usage
xD
Maybe shouldn't be 3x base
LOL
It ban the "Hack" word? Lol
Guess so
I wouldnât have the increment per card mixed with other effects. If you do other effects, Iâd keep them simple.
Also I donât like removing a Hand as an effect when playing Hands is what moves the countdown
It does
As I said I think Bosses should be kept at x2 unless they have a very clear reason why (like the Needle) or itâs part of the Bossâ effect
Hacker blind
When doing actions (using hand - using consumable cards - discarding) it hack 2 random card per action.
Hack symbol will take a chip based on the value and debuff this hack card
This blind will use the first skill when start battleing
(Hack symbol will gone if put into deck)
Idea from
Ix10 dice or IIIIIIIIII Boss in random dice

Interesting, it would require you to work around debuffs or play hands and do actions more accordingly which I love
Bosses need to be more dynamic in the way the player has to think about their score instead of just playing the best hand (which is fun, but not dynamic)
Does it debuff 2 cards per hands played or 2 cards per card played
Or both?
So if I play a 5 card hand, it debuffs 12 cards? (2 for each card 1 for the hand)
I think in the full game you wonât know what Bosses will be coming, so you might have a Hearts build then come across the Head on the next Ante
The dynamic isnât inside the Blind but in the lead-up to it
Yea that's fair
I like that way of thinking but also hard bosses
Lol
I guess it's hard to come up with unique concepts other than incredibly hard bosses for me
Fun fact
Using tarot or planet "count" as a action
I gonna draw this blind
Because i love this boss
No
It just only hack 2 card
Because it just use 1 hand
(I may have written incorrectly, sorry lul)
Pls pls pls do
I'd love to see more of your artwork you're one of the top tiers here
How many times can you submit'? Just 1?
The Drought
Effect: You gain no interest from this round.
Reward: 0$
Base Score: 2x Base
Skill +50% lazy +90%

But it always looks great!
Just mean đ
But I like it to starve out cash flow completey
I saw a similar suggestion before and I wasnât a fan of it then. The Round itself isnât harder, it just makes your life harder later
It Skips the shop on the round before the boss
The Calculator
Effect: -1 hand for each 10$ you have
Reward: 10$
Base Score: 2x base
I had had a similar idea that punishes having too much $
Looking at the banner, one of the symbols reminded me of a root symbol, and that made me think of a Boss idea. (Not a submission, just thinking out loud.)
The Root
Square root your score each Hand.
Theyâre rounded, like when you have decimal Multipliers
Yuh fair
If you can one shot the Blind, taking the square root of that score takes you at least 70% of the way there, so itâs not that much harder
No bc taking the root of like 1600 (ante 2) is only 40?
At least I think of when you say score
Maybe I forgot to take the square root of the base
Yeah taking the base into account it scales as the multiplicative inverse of the square root
So for reference using Verdant Greenâs 50k, you would be ~0.3% of the way there
If the Base score is x0.05 then itâs about 12% of the way
At x0.0125 itâs around 50.6%
I think a better solution is to take the square root of the base Ante score, which if multiplied by 2 takes us back to this scenario
Whatâs interesting is that this is more punishing if you have extremely large or extremely low hands, but less punishing if your hands have close scores, I think
Actually not quite, this is true if the hands sum to the same amount. (Itâs the same kind of erroneous reasoning I see people give for having Chips and Mult be equal.)
Ebony Equinox
Effect: -1 Hand Size for each joker
Reward: $10
Base Score: x2 Base
Many submits allowed
Interesting, the more you go down the messier you get
This is also a really interesting idea
Gravity blind boss
Will force 2 random cards in hand to be forced to "choose" without being able to resist. When discarding or play hand , random card randomly forced again.
Oh, then Iâm gonna submit some I had already made lol
I think you could simplify the text by writing âFor each Jokerâ.
I like the scaling effect, since it introduces a new dynamic that other Bosses donât have, but it feels more punishing than existing Blinds.
I think this would be more balanced if it affected a single card. Allowing the card to be played or discarded makes it slightly easier, but itâs still a heavy restriction. This is the kind of effect I think would warrant a x1 base Score.

Really interesting idea
Thanks!

why so big

My blind is too small lul
Btw i draw a card for no reason*

I will select a winner for this now
I've selected a winner
The root
by @timid ore
Takes the square root of your Score each hand
Score at least 2x âBase to win $5
:0 thanks
There were a lot of good ones, But if I had to pick the best It would be this one
The idea isn't a lot complicated also not that simple
So here you go :]

đ
very pog
Why did this win when it has a terrible design? Like, this is trivially easy to pass. A base that requires 100,000 chips (double that of the final boss) for example would just require 100 chips to pass.
And in order to get 100 chips you need... 100,000 chips. Like, am I crazy or does taking the square root of both the chips and the score just even it out?
It also seems terribly impractical in game from both a rounding standpoint and UI design; no player should have to wonder about the scaling properties of square roots, or how much they actually need to get to pass.
Update; I did some thought and while this isn't 100% true if you have multiple hands, it's still trivially easy.
If the score normally would be 100,000 chips, it becomes 100 chips.
Then, you can win by playing two hands of 2,500 chips, which become 50.
My math was a bit off;
If this assumed the place of Verdant Leaf, 50,000, you'd need ~223 chips to win
What that means is that 5 hands of 2,500 wins
Beating this blind is not hard at all. If you have some basic multiplier jokers like Abstract, Misprint and etc you can easily get the numbers needed for this
This is a:
-> Unintuitive
-> Hard to calculate what numbers you need
-> And too easy
Blind. Seriously what did this win? It's not good for the new player experience (square roots being unintuitive), it's not good for the experiment player experience (it forces them to whip a calculator to figure if their hand will win) and it's not good for the difficulty curve by being way too easy to beat. What's actually good for it other than the cheeky name and idea?
I don't think it has to be super practical to still be a cool boss design
I agree itâs probably the least likely to be interesting in-game lol but itâs fun to think about
Although I think that in practice itâs a 40% increase in Blind size that favors balanced hands slightly
