#lesser hands should impact greater hands. ie 3ofakind improving full house

Not saying leveling up a pair should make all hands that have a pair in them lvl 2. Maybe a small boost to it, like a lvl 1.5.

I find myself in this issue when playing flush decks. Why should a straight flush be significantly worse hand vs a regular flush with only a few levels. This would also help switching between hand types. Like if one was to start with pairs or 3ofakind and then shifting over to 4 of a kind or full houses instead of just doubling down on a lesser hand because they happened to get some planets at the start.

We also see this mechanic in jokers that refers to hands that contain blank

Hard agree this need to have something

#

At LEAST for 3oak/FullHouse/4oak/5oak and straight/flush/straightflush

#

Honestly maybe even just make it a joker or something?

i feel like the best way to implement this is to give the player the points for the highest scoring hand available - e.g., i have a lvl7 pair and a lvl1 two pair, so when i play a two pair the game counts it as a lvl7 pair (since it has a higher base value)

The 3oak joker boosts FH, 4oak and 5oak (and Flush House)
4oak joker boosts 5oak too

The way planets work is- they dont see what the hand contains but what the hand is.
While the Jokers do say "hand contains"

A Full House contains a 3oak in it.
But it isnt a 3oak.

Thats why the 3oak Joker boosts it while the 3oak planet doesnt.

The game, despite still a demo is great and has a lot as it is.

Completely rewriting the way planets work to have lower planets even slightly affect the stronger hands would be way too hard to code in a way it wouldn't be game breaking (speaking from a game dev's pov here).
The planets are meant to intrease the power of their specific hands. While the jokers give bonuses depending on what the played hand has.
So I dont see the need of lower planets affecting the higher hands.

in normal poker, yes

but Balatro is based on poker but not Poker
so normally weaker hands will be stronger

So what's the point of making stronger hands if the lesser ones tend to be easier to make and earn you more points.

well depeding on your luck with jokers and tarots and planets and everything- weaker hands wont always help you

It's just frustrating trying to go for straight decks or flush decks but just playing pairs will outperform.

again- it will all depend on the jokers and tarots and planets you get

you can play and be lucky enough to get a 5oak game rolling form the start

or you can work to make a High card hand be worth that much
seeds are randomly generated- so 1 seed may or may not be worth going for a specific hand you wanna try

Part of this issue is remedied with the balance of the actual upgrade itself - lower hands scale slower than higher hands. So 1 Neptune might be worth like 3 plutos (Cant remember the numbers)

#

I can adjust that scaling more but ultimately if you want a pair to be worth more than 4oak and you haven't specced anything into 4oak planets - that is intended design. I understand if you disagree but I like how it works with the current planet system (broadly)

#

The idea here that this is more roguelike than poker, so a 'pair' build most definitly can be worth more than a '4oak' build since they are different builds with different synergies

The entire Planet system is about making weaker hands stronger, or stronger hands broken. The stronger the hands the harder is the planet to obtain- and that also is why stronger hands get boosted more from 1 planet, compared to the weaker hands.
if Pluto gives just +5/+1 to HC, remember it is one of the easiest planets to come by so its easier to stack multiples of it-
but then you continue stacking Plutos, and see high card scoring more than what 4oak would score (cus 4oak there would still be level 1)

so the way planets are- helps to have each hand be equally strong in the long run.

and the idea of the game is to- try and get a specific hand to be as strong as it can get. and i can tell you that that has been achieved across many many seeds-

Ceres and X can only show after you have played their specific hands-

And also there's the Telescope voucher which just lets you secure the planet you want

First few shops, you are going to buy the weaker planet cards over a straight, flush, or 4oak just making them more useful hands than the higher tier hands in the later game.
