#SCORE PREVIEW

I think its perfect as is tbh, the partial preview of just the hand stat is great because that information is available from a single page anyway. anything more and it feels a bit cheap personally
i like not calculating the hand out and just hoping it comes out good as the numbers pop one by one, very suspenseful and fun and a full preview totally throws that away
I like how it is currently as well. It adds suspense and makes you think about what you're playing rather than clicking to see what number comes up.
Also disrupts some existing joker mechanics and seeing '???' in the score preview is less helpful and would deincentivise certain jokers
I like seeing number go up so i chose B.
That said, it is useful to calculate out hands for multiple reasons, stuff like stacking ride the bus/supernova especially, since you want to strike a balance between not ending the round early and not losing outright. I find myself calculating hands for that quite often. Also some people going for high score challenge runs would like to see the outcome of their hands before doing anything. Maybe it could just be toggleable via hotkey?
nah if it was toggleable a lot of new players would just keep it on forever
I think calculating the hand by hand is a big part of the fun of the game personally, it adds to the suspense and stress of a tight round
and its where a lot of the skill ceiling comes from
i don't think this is a valid form of skill expression
maybe not fully calculating out the hands, but having heuristics to judge if a hand will do well or not is definitely valid skill expression imo
that's fair
and if you just see what the full score is, thats totally gone
I didn't want to swing the vote in the wording of my question - but this is basically impossible to do A. Why wait and see all the numbers gradually go up when you hit the play button if I implemented A? I'd have to rework the core of the gameplay
i think as is it's perfect, it adds suspense and is kinda fun, having to estimate what had you have to play and getting it right by a little margin is REALLY satisfying.
It would really remove a bit of magic to the game to know in advance the exact score
But seeing people pull up calculator app during a video/stream kills me a little
a little bit of tryharding can be fun haha
It's minmax people optimizing out the fun again
i really like that it shows the preview including the planet upgrades though, it just makes the flow of the game smoother
I understand why other options are being considered, and having an open mind to new ideas is great, but tbh it's kinda perfect just the way it is. I don't think this is a part of gameplay that needs refining
got an idea i want to throw out there:
Allow the player to ask the game for an approximate score of their selected hand, perhaps a round number within 20% of the actual amount? Maybe also make it a "hint" system with limited uses per run, like maybe once or twice.
i think this would allow players to fear failure on a hand a bit less, as well as build up that intuition skill brightqwerty mentioned
could also pay $ for hints, not a bad idea
people would probably rather take a calculator than do that
different strokes for different folks
some would rather spend a few in game dollars than math it out and spend irl time
I feel like these are kinda bandaids and wouldn't resolve the problems that score previews bring up
i probably wouldnt do either and just lose lmao
Tbh like 80% of the games satisfaction is from watching all your cards perk and rack up your score to see what you get
This would kill a lot of fun value
ya agreed for sure
For every 'streamer opens calculator' there's a hundred 'ooo what will I get's
for every 100 ooo what will i gets there's a poor sap who accidentally played high card instead of a straight
Well this wouldn't fix that problem at all lol , it already says your current hand
I've done this too though lol
I think having a button to open a calculator could be cool as an alternative
but I think the system is great as it is
There is a joker that gives a random number of mult. Wouldn't that alone make this an impossible calculation?
you can show the calculation without any random elements, and then a little "+ ???" after that if any random elements exist
The results of the previous poll and this poll are very very telling
In that a partial preview of [important mechanic] is likely better than no preview at all
Even if it is a bit more tedious. Maybe there is a sweetspot
I feel like partial or just the hand is best, gives you skill expression instead of just going through every combination in your hand to find the best combo.
partial preview is best since it shows at a glance the base of your tee'd hand
you can swap out a card or two and see if upgraded X hand beats out base Y hand
on a related note i think this follows a similar philosophy to letting people play bunk hands into the boss blinds instead of having the blind disallowing bunk hands from being played at all
simple attention check that doesn't spoonfeed you
i do agree with B, but do think the most 'annoying' situations that I'd like A for, is when you make a hand and it is unsatisfyingly off from beating the blind (like getting to 785 on a 800 blind)
i'm not quite sure how the 'fire' animation and stuff works tbh, but it seems like it's a pattern to me that it triggers at least when you score enough to one-hit the boss. I wish that fire animation was the cue to like "this will beat the blind", but idk if people would consider it too handholding
(and yes I know the fire animation currently plays in the preview if your pre-calculation chips+mult would beat it, like getting a straight flush early, I mean "what if it showed the fire in the preview if the after-calculation would beat the boss")
hmm I guess this has the issue of inconsistency if the hand would beat the boss, but you already scored some points (the fire animation would logically not play there if you're going from like 600 -> 800 points to beat the blind)
I like the idea of seeing what hand I am about to play, including the chip count and multiplier associated with the hand so I don't have to flip back and forth between the pause menu. I also personally like calculating my total hand score so I wouldn't want it outright shown
