to test code generation in joker forge 2 to ensure that it is producing, usable, learnable, code, i am creating an automated unit test suite. this suite will have a bunch of .lua files of jokers, consumables, etc., and are meant to be like the 'industry-standard' best practice of making a certain effect. the code generation will then test itself against these many perfect examples to see how well it can generate code. not at the moment, but if i ask some people down the line to make generic jokers, consumables, etc, that follow best practices, will people be up for it?

the issue with writing what is basically a compiler is that changing one thing can have drastic effects on edge cases elsewhere

which is one of the reasons why jf1 had such bad code gen

(also the fact i was a much worse programmer when i was setting those systems up over a year ago)

because of how its set up

the addition of live code generation will let the users know better about what a block is directly adding to your code

when i first started developing jokerforge, i had a route to go down, do i make it less accessible and more akin to programming (scratch, what jokerblocks is trying to do), or do i make it more accessible and inadvertedly make it harder for seasoned programmers to use jokerforge

i chose the former because i thought that the market for people using an app like jf would have more crossover of people that do not know how to code

but with jf2, it better adheres to the programmers by optionally turning it into a hyper optimised, balatro modding specific ide, where you can place your blocks, see the code gen live, then edit the code generation at the same time and it all saves
