For someone who wants an insane mod but doesn't want 165000 wacky new mechanics to deal with (i.e. Hot Potato having like 30 currencies that all work on a different part of the 560000000 mechanics deep upgrade system), what would be the recommendation?
Already have Qualatro, the SiIvagunner mod. Also already have Balatrostuck, which isn't as wacky but still super complex and decently large.

We've definitely spoken about separating out Hotpot mechanics before (Sleepy actually did this with the Events system), though I'm pretty sure nobody wants to try to untangle that spiderweb of code 😭

The breeding mechanic could be a whole-ass mod on its own if expanded upon
Like for example, child cards growing up and being able to be bred (maybe a grown up child card only passes down one of its effects and the effect's effectiveness or chance of happening is halved), more card types that can be bred (breed a 9 of Hearts and a 7 of Clubs and maybe you'll get an 8 of Clubs), maybe an affair masking/revealing mechanic to change things up...
That all sounds insanely out of scope and more like a visual novel type beat 😭

Breeding/Quantum Jokers was easily the single most complex and problematic part of Hot Potato and took an unbelievable amount of time to debug (and it's STILL buggy) 😭

SiIvagunner's mod has a Joker that spawns Jokers with the same effect as a Negative card (no other effect on them), and it happens forever, so you can essentially end up with so many jokers your game lags if you manage to get that far.
At one point I had enough mods that there was no longer a title at all. It was also unplayable though. Crashed too often.

your jokerforge code will help, but remember that its often not the best practice as it needs to be modular

Start with something small and it'll keep you motivated for a bit as you get more and more into it. I started with a simple texture pack and now I have a lot of other shit too. I've learned a lot, more than I would have expected a year ago

If you have no coding experience I recommend JokerForge or my own jokerforge-inspired thingamajig here -> JokerBlocks it's in early development however.
But I highly recommend learning Lua (for LÖVE2D) since it opens the most doors and is the most customizable.

Pros
- Easy to get started.
- Super simple interface
- Dark/light mode
- Basic blind creation support
- Live Lua Preview
- Global Variables
Cons
- Early development; may be missing some features, you can create your usual stuff, though.
- Art has to be path-referenced (like ./assets/1x/joker.png)
- Only 44% of Joker are possible (afaik)
JokerForge
Pros
- It's in later development than JokerBlocks, hence, more possibilities.
- Every joker is possible
- It has an easy way to import art, instead of referencing the path of the image like in JokerBlocks.
Cons
- The UI isn't quite comfortable, imo.
- This may be just me, but I'm a programmer, and I still had a hard time getting started.

i think im having a mandela effect. i recalled cryptid + Polterworks having a joker and deck called "phylosophical joker" which was a joker that gave you +1 in joker slots... but there was also a deck that gave you 5 of those... the joke was, since the 5 of them take take 5 slots, but give 5 slots, is the same as NO loosing any slot.
i wanted to do a run with the phylosofical deck sleeve and the Meeck because if you get a phylosofical wee joker you could growth up their level

Can a joker check for jokers in pools between mods?
I. E. Let's say for example wrapped candy spawns a food joker but there is a different mod that has a food themed joker but it's not in the "Food" pool, if I give it the "Food" pool can wrapped candy spawn the joker even if it's a different mod?
