Mod managers are just what the name implies plus a catalogue to download mods at the click of a button, there's 2 popular options rn (BMM and IMM), both can be downloaded on github
So in short:

Balatro Mod Manager (BMM) is an external executable that automatically detects where balatro is downloaded and the mod folder inside it, it's the less popular of the 2 rn because of some minor bugs but the interface is really good

Ingame Mod Manager (IMM) is a manager that works within balatro itself, you manually have to insert it into the mod folder but that should be relatively easy, the only downside to using it is that you'd have to load up the game every time you wanna use the manager unlike BMM

Both of them have the same catalogue too so you don't have to worry about certain mods being on one and not the other
