I handle a bunch of stuff for my custom enhancements that way. It's pretty easy to set up, you just have to mess with the x and y axis a bit to find the right positioning

If you want an example, I use this drawstep to cycle through code from a sprite sheet to count down a timer. The principle to use there is basically the same as yours, except it's not related to a timer at all, haha
