There are certain MTG effects, especially in the early years, that are one-off mechanics in a set and use a lot of words. After the effect becomes more common, a wording that's shorter becomes the norm, as it's shared amongst cards so easier for players to pick up, and errata'd to be the text of those old cards

To show why I'm probably changing Vampire's description next Kino update: I've got a bunch of jokers based on vampire movies that all have effects based on vampire. Vampire's a simple concept but a bit wordy (which in vanilla makes sense), and it makes it so the effect is harder to do variations on and describe those, if you're intending to keep the vanilla text. So I'm keywording the process of removing a quality from a card to turn it into a stat on the joker into the ability 'Drain'. Some jokers care about drain as an ability, or care about vampiric jokers, so to show that vampire would also trigger those effects, I'm changing vampire to use the word Drain instead
