i personally use #1336473631483760791 for faster calculation and better profiler debug thingy but apparently you can try to replace luajit in your Balatro folder with luajit2 to remediate Talisman comparison problem

First, depending on what you wanna do you have to observe and take inspiration from the balatro shading technique.
And what do I mean by that?
For example: the simple jokers like default, jolly, crafty and etc. don't require too much shading.
Then there are some jokers that are shaded in a slightly more defined way, such as Banner, Mime and Delayed gratification.
Those apply much more layers of shading/light to give the joker a less flat feeling.
Then there are jokers that are shaded in a pretty complex way with more shading layers like crremonial dagger, Splash, Superposition, Erosion, etc.
Those require a lot of shading layers with not too contrast between each one.
But after all, you can freely choose which shading technique you want to use for your jokers.
For example: my Scienceful jokers have a slightly more detailed shading.

As for the shading part....
Well I usually create a layer with the Multiply option and choose a darker tone of the color I wanna shade, do the shading and regulate the opacity of that layer in order to regulate how dark has to be that shade.

The same can be done with the light but instead of setting a layer to "Multiply" you have to set it to "Screen" and choose a lighter color of the color you want to... light!

(And then the regulate the opacity and you know the rest)

And that's where the blur tool comes in handy.
