shaders are doable, but you need to be comfortable with code and there's a lack of direct feedback when you start learning it, so it's very annoying to get into. Which is why a lot of modders don't mess with shaders too much

there's also no tutorials for it catered to Balatro, and not a lot of people are comfortable with coding it, so most questions won't get answered, which is part of that hurdle. But if you're comfortable learning how the shaders work, it's a generic framework with some quirks to make it fit Love2D, so there is a lot of non-Balatro specific knowledge out there

math, mostly. It's a lot of formulas that you make update values based on conditions and frame time

but I've only really worked with shaders when there was a visual editor and graph tool involved, haha, so my knowledge doesn't breach the surface tension

Not gonna be able to help with any specifics, it's always hard to figure out what's going wrong with this many mods running. I'd recommend doing the installs piece by piece, so you can figure out where it breaks. If you start with only QoL or technical mods, like Talisman and Better Tags, etc., you can work through the content mods from there

Only for that but for the rest I had to understand Ortalab's index joker code to make the Cyber card code.
And for the effects I took inspiration from the strength tarot card.
Then for the state reset I put an "after" condition in the calculate function and inside I reset the state of the cyber card in order to make said card increase/decrease again if chosen the same button as the hand before.

I have a bunch of jokers that scale within the ante, then reset after you beat a blind but increase their scaling. I like the concept a lot, though I've learned it's difficult to balance the scaling's scaling 😛
