basically:
- You start with 20/20 HP
- Every blind deals you a set amount of cards, and you have to defeat most of them to proceed (for most blinds you can leave 1 behind, but for The Duel there's only one so you have to beat it)
- Heart cards heal you their rank in HP
- Spade and Club cards damage you their rank in HP
- Diamonds can be equipped to your weapon slot. They reduce damage taken by their rank, but attacked cards are put in the durability stack. You can only attack cards with ranks equal to or below the lowest card on the durability stack. Getting a new weapon or unequipping your weapon resets the stack
- There are bonus mechanics that I have Not Yet Implemented™️ such as editions and enhancements giving new unique effects and planet cards upgrading how suits work
- You must empty the deck to win
- Yeah sure I'll let you know when I've got a test-ready version

in scoundrel, the game this is based off, when you're dealt a room (blind) you can choose to run away, shuffling those cards to the bottom of the deck
but you can't run twice or more in a row

the game can tell what's going on by what G.STATE is set to. There's a state for drawing hands, a state for playing cards, a state for being in the shop, etc. the game checks what the state is every frame and decides what to do from there
so if you give it a new state, it doesn't know what to do with it, and it does nothing at all
and then you can patch in your own logic for that state

just entered The Duel (defeat 1 of 1 cards) and it was the Ace of Hearts and it was fine but i had the horrid realization that when the duel is fully programmed with its full effect (defeat 1 of 1 cards, the 1 card is made into a black suit, enhanced, editioned card) that situation will be a fucking nightmare
