You can't know that. If Steamodded makes a breaking change, then people are left clueless as to what version actually worked, and it becomes way harder to try and diagnose the issue.
If you just say "developed for Steamodded 323" or "tested on SMODS 420b", then players can follow up on it way more easily

That's a failed lovely patch, could be caused by any of your mods. Try moving all except Steamodded out of the Mods folder, then adding them back 1-by-1 to find the culprit.
Also, make sure you're deleting old versions when installing new ones, not just pasting over the top of the existing files - that could also cause this error

This is something that requires cooperation from mod devs also, but the solution isn't to capitulate to the worse way to do things

For Balatro specifically, i think rolling releases are a bad choice on a library as overwhelmingly popular and depended on as Steamodded is, specifically because of the brittle nature of hooks and Lovely patches. Any minor code tweak has the possibility of breaking any mod that's patched either vanilla or SMODS code, and hooked functions might be renamed or their parameters changed. This means every new version is a potentially breaking change, and should be regarded as such. And i don't know of any developer worth their salt who would happily release 50 major "breaking" updates every month.

Not to say that Steamodded is at fault here, it's just a consequence of mod development in Lua + Balatro + Lovely - but it's the reason why i think jumping between larger releases is the more sensible approach

that's for making lua programs outside of the game but you can just run all functions inside the game itself
