essentially the joker I'm making relies on you playing cards in a certain order, and I want to include unscored cards for balance purposes, but the joker needs to "trigger" them visually for user feedback
it's like a quick time event where you've gotta press a button combo, kinda thing
except you need to play a certain order of suits that changes every so often
oh, yeah, that's super easy. That's just making use of the unscored card area, and just returning a message. I've got some cards that interact with unscored cards in #1340334060597285025. I'd show you the code for how I set up basically that system for my Codex jokers, but I haven't pushed that to git yet
I've got the suit order matching working, but I still need to get the changing on a regular basis (events API will do that)

if you wanna see how the unscored card stuff works. I'd ignore all the stuff outside of calculate, as it's mostly mod-specific. only thing to keep in mind is that the feature is optional (though maybe it's no longer an optional feature, actually? I'm not sure). On the other hand, I'd not use this feature for what you're proposing
I'd just iterate over the cards in context.full_hand and trigger a message and juice up for them. That way they're properly ordered
because you don't need the 'scoredness' quality of the cards, after all
I haven't published any of the codex jokers on the git page, but while their order doesn't change based on a real clock, they otherwise function the same, and I don't use the unscored card area for that at all
so is that "unscored" cardarea native to SMODS already or is there anything more I'd need to do?

it's native to SMODS, but it's an optional feature you need to enable. Though let me check my sources on that!

Cryptid, when you install it comes with its dependancies. you are meant to take the cryptid folders contents and then put them alongside lovelys injected folder inside the mods folder. Cryptid, does not run on the latest smod and Talisman builds. I wont repeat myself again. Please watch the tutorial in full.

Your cryptid folder should be alongside lovely.
When you install crpytid, it will come with 3 folders inside.
take those folders
put them in the mod folder
then hit run.
do not use any other versions of smod or talisman other than those which are INSIDE the cryptid folder.

which made me decide that one of the "end" conditions of cryptid balatro is when the game takes long enough to calculate that i can go watch a youtube video in the background
and everytime I launch Balatro, Lovely is in the mods folder despite that I keep deleting it
now the Winrar zip of Cryptid is now magically getting into my Mods folder

It's caused by a mod (probably Cryptid) making two separate matching patches to Steamodded code. When Steamodded makes code changes, one of the patches applies and another doesn't, so you end up with invalid code.
It's why it's generally especially important when using mods like Cryptid to stick to the recommended/targeted versions
so would the solution to be uninstalling all other mods, then reinstalling them one at a time and seeing what breaks it?
what mod has swapped the position of the "play" and "discard" button, WHO DID THIS TO ME?
I think that's a vanilla setting
If you're using Cryptid, the solution is either to downgrade Steamodded (if all your other mods will work with an older version) or use the latest dev version of Cryptid that has targeted the latest Steamodded dev build

The "lovely" folder in Mods is automatically generated and contains log files, that's normal.
The .zip isn't magically appearing, if it's there, it's because you put it there

one for vanilla-style, two for cryptid and almanac respectively and one for myriad development
