It's quite outdated. You should still be able to get it working as long as you use the old version of Steamodded that it was made for, version 0.7.2. You'll also want the version of lovely that it was built for, probably v0.4.0?
But it won't be compatible with anything newer

That tutorial is a little outdated.
Cryptid 0.5.3d requires an older version of Steamodded called old-calc that's no longer recommended.
If you use the latest pre-release version of Cryptid-refactor, then you can use the latest version of Steamodded too, along with Talisman

Example of why fixed releases are good. Old mods are still playable and aren't left in a confusingly broken state. Just get the version that the mod was built for, and it works.

That's an outrageous argument. Not every minor code change is a breaking change. A large part of the codebase is stable and has been for some time. My main complaint is the fact that the largest breaking change was released just like any other version, with nothing but a single Tag called "old-calc" with the description "fuck it we ball" to explain the changes to users.

I feel like you're being deliberately obtuse. The mod wasn't relying on a 1.5 month old version when it was released. It was released to work with the latest version of Steamodded at that time, and has broken since. If the versions were clearly marked when that breaking change happened, then it would be obvious to see that the mod is now no longer compatible.

People could see at a glance that the mod no longer works, instead of having to rely on someone with in-depth knowledge of the state of compatibility of different libraries to tell them "oh that won't work anymore"
It's not about mods not breaking, it's about giving regular users the information to know when things might not work anymore
I don't quite see how that would help. Mods can crash I'm many ways and a mod crashing doesn't always mean it's incompatible with the latest smods. There's like at least 5 common errors people get installing cruotid because they did something wrong even with the correct versions.
Also regular users do not know how to read crash logs

They wouldn't NEED TO, because the mod could clearly state "Made for Steamodded 2.4", and a user could know to download Steamodded 2.4

- Mod devs in almost every other active mod community DO reference the versions of their game, dependencies and libraries at the time on their release. This is a matter of community practice, not something that mod devs are incapable of doing
- People don't read when they're presented with an overwhelming amount of information. The threshold for "overwhelming" is different for different people. This is a reason to make things as clear and obvious as possible, not to go "oh well, users don't read so i'll just throw up this bundle of lua files on pastebin and blame them for being too stupid to work it out on their own"

Better stack traces would also be great, but that requires actual effort to implement and isn't as simple as typing a different number at the end of a zip file

About the stack traces or the zip file? I think better stack traces would require an insane overhaul of Lovely to do something similar to Harmony, a popular runtime patcher for Unity (esp. RimWorld), where the patcher keeps track of mod metadata alongside each patch, so that any errors that are thrown within that patch also indicate the mod(s) responsible for it. This is much easier to do with C# Reflection though.

cryptid often crashes when buying consumables or playing hands, is there something i can do?
I'm back again. I've been trying everything possible to somehow mod this game, and I'm going insane because absolutely nothing works. Trying to download Steammodded? Doesn't work. Trying to use 7-zip? Nothing. I have tried following instructions that others have given me but absolutley nothing works. It's obviously something I am doing because I imagine these methods work for everyone else, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

so redeeming the voucher tag voucher should remove the initial voucher from the shop
i recommend at least updating steamodded and any other mods when you either update a mod or install a new one

I had like at least a dozen blueprints copying a 12 retrigger chad, which was retriggering a digital hallucinations joker, and I opened a buffoon pack

That version of Brainstorm doesn't work on macOS. Try deleting that and replacing it with the latest update instead:

Log files are located at %AppData%\Balatro\Mods\lovely\log, but unless you have a really good reason to be using 0.9.8, you should update to the latest
