You still have to pick which mods you want to use, but it will handle all the set-up and installation for you. It's pretty user-friendly

Since you're using the older version of Cryptid, you also need the older release version of Talisman
im downloading the lastest cryptid from github tho
0.5.3d is the latest version of the 'main' branch, but there's a newer branch called 'refactor' which is compatible with the newest versions of Talisman and Steamodded
Mod devs aren't great at communicating these things to users

If you already have everything else set up for Steamodded old-calc, I'd recommend sticking with main for now and just using Talisman 2.0.2

The majority of mods that add jokers and card effects have left old-calc behind, so you won't be compatible with them, but honestly Cryptid adds enough content by itself

If you want to use Cryptid along with the latest versions of other content mods, then you'll need to update Steamodded and Talisman to the latest version and use Cryptid refactor

The GitHub page says to make sure that the Mod's directory name is "Brainstorm" exactly, that might be the issue
It's due to the way that Lovely mods locate their own config defaults. It's easier to assume the folder name than to try and recursively search through every folder looking for the right one
Steamodded handles this more neatly for mods that use its config system, but Brainstorm is pure Lovely

There's always risk involved whenever you're downloading things from the internet.
Both modloaders and mods have the same permissions that you do when just executing code on your system. It's possible that a bad actor could write a mod to delete your personal files or steal data and upload it to a private server. The reason that most people consider them safe is because the main mod injectors (Lovely, Balamod) and all mods are open-source, so everyone can read through exactly what they do and ensure they're not malicious.
How many people actually do this? Maybe 1 in 1000? The rest are putting their trust in the mod authors and the community to find and flag suspicious programs. It's good to be wary, and not to trust absolutely everything, especially brand new mods or ones posted on strange places.
A good rule is to not trust closed-source programs unless they're made by a 'trustworthy' company, and to trust open-source programs based on how large of a community they have to vouch for their safety
With that disclaimer out of the way, I think everyone here would vouch that Lovely and Steamodded are perfectly safe and trustworthy

I think this is caused by an older version of Talisman corrupting a save file. Try deleting %AppData%\Balatro\1

So I want to organize my mods by putting them in folders since I have a lot of mods, the issue is, if I put (ex) Joker Display in a folder called "GUI", I won't see the gear icon that'll give me the ability to config the mod. Is there a way to try and work around that or no?

The idea is that you'd pick it up early on, and it's Xmult would carry you for a few Antes, but eventually it'd get outclassed by another Joker in the shop, and you have to decide whether to keep the Sacrifice, or sell it and risk losing one of your good Jokers as well

No way to work around this exact issue, Lovely expects mods to be only one level up from the Mods folder at most, so nesting them is no good.

If you're obsessive about it, you could try renaming the folders with organising prefixes like "UI_", "Jokers_", but be aware that some mods expect their folder to be named an exact thing, and mods are loaded in order based on their names, so this might break some mods and cause odd conflicts

My recommendation: X2, X3, or ~+40. If you want something that falls off, you’re looking for additive mult, but you might get a longer game of chicken from X mult. Really your call. X6 just wins tho

To get Cryptid working you'll need Lovely, Steamodded, Cryptid-refactor and Talisman installed. First you'll want to just get Lovely and Steamodded working. What have you done so far?
The main version of Cryptid is only compatible with older versions of Steamodded (old-calc, 1304a and older), which are quickly being left behind. At this point it seems best to use the newest pre-release version of Cryptid which works with the latest versions of Steamodded
But first make sure Lovely and Steamodded are working

Just doing some napkin math to see if a Deck idea for Kino I had would be fun enough to actually spend time implementing. It's a deck that would make all movie Jokers' rentals, take away all normal avenues for earning money. After defeating a boss blind you'd earn $9 * the ROI of the movie. Which is a lovely level of over designed, I reckon. But a bunch of low budget horror movies have ROIs above 1000%. Paranormal Activity would pay out $1720 each ante
I'll have to see how many jokers would give you unreasonable amounts of money, because the deck might be a bit too easy if a bunch of jokers just make the player a thousandaire, haha

And it seems like Cryptid might be installed incorrectly. Check inside each folder in Mods and make sure there are a bunch of files within those folders. If there are two nested folders (one single folder inside another) then the mod won't work

Look up Regex to understand more about this specific patch type. Regex is a system for matching generic patterns in text, but is pretty overwhelming to begin with until you learn how to interpret it.
patches.pattern should be enough when you're first starting out with lovely. That just replaces exact matches.

I am having such a difficult time understanding how Boredom is supposed to work because man... chaining it with Blueprint gives me a headache
Rough Gem ($1 per played Diamond) triggers like... 15 or so times when I got Boredom on a 100% chance (rigged)

Boredom does retrigger cards in hand as well so I guess that counts twice because Blueprint, and then it also retriggers Blueprint I guess?
So 2x3? (3x because of the jokers, 3x because of in hand?)
Anyone know how I can give balatro more memory, I was testing the limits of balatro and after trying to load around 171 thousand (probably) unique jokers it crashed, I just want to see how far I can take balatro and my computer. 😁

So, a design I have for a planet is basically purely negative. Whenever a Melancholia shows up in the store or a pack (it can't be generated by another card), it gains a counter. If the counter hits 5, you lose either the game, or your most played hand's level is set to 1. Using the planet lowers the counter by 1. I conceptually like the design, but it's very punishing and it's kind of a bummer to have show up, and be a permanent part of the gameplay for my mod. 🤔 I'm thinking it might be more interesting to tie the planet to a Boss Blind, which doesn't have any negative qualities, but beating it allows the planet to start spawning.

ok so basically it replaces some of the C bindings for lua, where it's able to mess with stuff and then pass them to the original. As such when loading a buffer, lovely will compare it's name to the targets in your patches, then apply all the applicable patches to the original buffer, before passing it to the original load buffer funciton

I've been trying to figure out which mod is causing my crash when attempting to play "endless" and I just want to make sure if my hunch is right? In this report, there's mention of BetmmaVouchers, field 'boss,' and at the end it mentions xpcall (likely from the mod Grim) Is anyone better able to narrow this? Removing Betmma causes an instant crash, as I've tried that (likely due to Jen's Mods? Aurinko, Incantation, JenLib, Nopeus, and JenSkins). I haven't tried removing Grim, but I'll be attempting that next. Might or Might not work. Just trying to figure this out, and hoping someone is able to shed light on this for me. Really been wanting to see how far I can go, and it's annoying that I can't.

snacks, most of them doing something during the round. Popcorn and Icecream give +mult and +chips to the next hand type played, but the pizza and soda retrigger cards. They're all cinema snacks in the broadest sense, to fit with the movie theme
But main rule is you never need to have cards to select for you to use a confection

They should just drop straight into the fonts folder along with a matching lua file that you can copy from the examples in the folder. Make sure you're using Trance 2.0.0, the earlier versions didn't support font changing

I keep the pixel art contained to planets and tarot cards, just to keep myself sane
I do have the occasional good art tho
I did consumables first too because it was less daunting
But im not mentally ready to tackle lua(exams) so im just mass producing jokers that all do +4 mult
I have ~150 planned jokers, and all of them are references to specific movies, so shrinking done the poster and doing some cheeky text editing turned out to be a lot easier than doing something with the art that would still be recognizable as the film. Luckily it all fits my theme well enough

Half the fun of roguelikes is setting up a powerful build, but he other half is also getting to see your build work for a while. vanilla scaling is a little aggressive past ante 10 and without very specific setups it's hard to go much further.

I saw the github for steammodded, and i've poked around in the guides, it looks like thats more useful for adding new cards, but what im doing moreso alters existing cards and some of the game files unrelated to the individual cards themselves
I don't know if there is a way to transfer that into a mod easily, and I dont know what to do at this point xd

If you're talking about Cryptid's Negative joker, there are several jokers that increase the value of other jokers, meaning you can get a Negative Joker that gives hundreds of slots
