i have just realized a great thing about cross-compatibility
my mod (Mistigris) has a Joker that gives up to X6 mult depending on how balanced the chips and mult are
paperback has this Joker
so if you use Let It Happen and you also have Plasma Joker, then you get a guaranteed X6 mult every time you play a hand that hasn't been played that Ante
Cryptid has the Sync Catalyst that simply balances chips and mult exactly like Plasma Deck, which would mean it ALWAYS triggers the x6 mult
that too, but Cryptid is very unbalanced anyway so its not nearly as funny as having two mods that are supposed to be balanced (Paperback and Mistigris)

and im not patching this out because it's such a niche scenario and I want to see it happen
(also Plasma Deck doesn't work as an exploit to Plasma Joker because the Joker evaluates before the deck is balanced)

at some point when I'm not busy with classes I'm going to do the mod I wanted to do that replaces aces with 1's and reworks certain jokers/spectrals/tarots/etc. under the assumption that 1's are now the lowest ranking card and kings are now the highest ranking card
although Scholar in particular probably won't point to Kings but instead probably to 10's

How does one learn how to make original shaders? Seems really daunting
is there anyone who could tell me where I'd find the files for some balatro mods? would they be on github or on the discord?
If you're a learning-by-doing type of person, spending an afternoon playing around with ShaderToy could be a fun place to start.
If you're looking for tutorials, The Book of Shaders is a little academic but extremely well written.
Catlike Coding also has a super instructive series of tutorials which focus on Unity's ShaderLab, but it's close enough to GLSL that learning one is learning the other.
Is it a 1:1 thing where I can slap it in and it'll work?

In the same way that learning how to paint a lake will also teach you how to paint a beach. The ability comes through knowing the fundamentals, not the specifics.
Cg/HLSL are effectively the same. Balatro's Love2D uses OpenGL GLSL, which has fewer features than Cg/HLSL, but for the majority of basic shaders will look much the same - still just performing operations on matrices.
Unity's ShaderLab is just an extra set of libraries for Cg, so as long as you pay attention to when you're importing Unity stuff, you'll know what you can do without.

Windows permission issues can be a real pain. First try rebooting and logging in again, in case the file is in use. Uninstall and reinstall is a good next step.

No worries. Following a guide to set file ownership and full permissions should do the trick, but the cause of the permissions change in the first place is strange and concerning. Is this a business or school owned computer with group policies?

I'd also do a scan for malware, random .dll permissions changing could be a symptom of infection.

the main thing is that most numbers have to be converted with to_big or to_number

okay i figured it out, i downloaded and replaced my current steam mod with the old calc one, however its uncompatiable with some mods but i cant find the newest, or best version of steam mod to run those mods
so far i cant play any mods still except for cryptid and talisman. All the other mods require a newer version of steammod and idk where to find it/make it work correctly
everytime i download steammod from github its an older version

They're probably fine. The issue is that Cryptid isn't compatible with latest Steamodded and that version of Talisman.

I have a question about modding, I am trying to make a joker with the "smods-old-calc version".
I want to return 2 values but I am not sure how to (see image) can anyone tell me how I can fix this.
I've been struggling to find the answer for a couple of hours now.
I've looked at the smods example_jokers, but it just wouldn't work.

it's really not recommend to still make your mods on old calc, and latest steamodded makes what you're trying to do so much easier
I have practiced with the up to date version and then it worked fine

backing up your files shouldn't be needed but doesn't hurt either. You should use a different profile if you care about your vanilla save though

so, I'm now considering the actual gameplay design for popcorn. In my notes I have it as an item that when used upgrades every hand with +4 mult. That seems both a bit boring and a bit strong. The alternative I had was it giving +4 mult to the next hand type played. I'm now considering whether it's interesting to have it give +4 not to a played hand, but just a selected one.

I can see this joker being harder and harder to scale as it gets better, since the XMult might prevent you from getting down to 0-0
But then at the same time as you progress through the blinds the Joker might not supply enough to kill the blind, and you're back at being able to get 0-0s
Which i think is pretty interesting

in this way, it's kinda like The Joke from Cryptid, but way less punishing if you do too well
and you don't get punished for doing well with it, you just don't get rewarded

I like the idea ye, gets rid of bonus cash from not using a lot of them in exchange for an evolving mult bonus. If that Joker is grabbed early on in a run, the player can just spam low earning card hands while building a good final winning hand for the end in the early game then, use that maximized bonus during late/endless game to absurd degrees
kinda gives me a slight "Jimbo The Mischevious One" vibe
i think i'd rather keep the income from saving hands tbh. you give up so much for some xmult

Looks like Roulette is just old and hasn't been updated through the breaking changes that Steamodded has made. It might work if you create a new folder inside Roulette called assets, then move the 1x and 2x folders inside there.
It also might throw more problems because the last supported version of Steamodded was 0.9.3 in April last year

Get everything you need to know about installing Balatro mods in today's guide. Installing Balatro mods should only take a few minutes & the first thing you will need to do is download and install lovely Injector and then steammodded as shown in the video.

Is there a list or google doc or something that shows found incompatibilities with mods, yet? Curious, as it'd be nice to be able to have a compiled list so everyone knows what mods they can and can't use with other mods.

Yea I get that. But there's also mods with new calc that won't work with others due to other changes they've made. So for instances like that (I believe I found one with old calc too?), it'd be pretty nifty and useful to have some way to be more informative on. Would also help reduce crashes, for those that read into it.

I have this currently. No mods added yet. Wanting to see if anyone has any other ideas with colors used, or maybe if the Title of certain areas? Hoping this will be a something the Balatro modding community can work on together. I'm sure there's a better way to name/color all this. I'm mostly used to making this sort of thing for actual collections, and not a General Use.

Yeah, but my point is that updating that is going to be a very difficult task because you need to keep track of every mod update at all times; pinpoint exactly what the incompatibility is, which is sometimes hard even for the mod devs; and also just making people aware that your list exists is going to be hard
