Hai! Quick question: Is the save data tied to the .exe or is it separate?
I'd like to be able to have a vanilla client and a modded client and just be able to launch one or the other without shattering my saves.
It's tied to the exe. If you rename it, the savedata should save in a different location (I personally use this to completely split my vanilla/modded saves)
So if I name it BalatroCryptid.exe The saves will be blank?

Erm can I ask is there a way to remove certain jokers from a mod? Would deleting the lines for the jokers work or will it just cause errors due to missing stuff.
There's a mod I'm using where for some reason anytime a certain joker appears in the shop my game crashes and the run gets bricked.
I dont want to bother the mod authors because frankly my laptop is really old and its probably some weird RAM issue or somthing

RNJoker in Cryptid does something similar but instead of turning into another joker, its abilities change
Another joker idea i kinda had inspiration from the gem boss in po3 in inscription where you can make a joker with your own buffs in a list of effects. The downside of that after you make the set effect on it if you sell it and get it from a shop again or a showman gives you a duplicate it keeps the effect and can’t get it blank

Hello! I recently followed the instructions to make my own custom deck for the game. However, when I try to add it to the game, the in-game mods section says there are no mods being read?
My mod is in the appdata/balatro/mods/assets folder with the x1 and x2 folders inside, like the mod author suggested. I also made sure to add the version.dll into the game's folder for Steam. Is there something I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated! ❤️
Mod should go into its own folder inside the Mods folder
That mod folder is the one that will contain the assets folder
%appdata%/Balatro/Mods/<mod name>/assets
It should also contain a json file that will help SMODS find it and import it, and a lua file to load it (at the level of <mod name>)

If so the json file is unecessary. It's the old format of mod metadata and it's still supported
Try and just putting the mod's folder (so the one containing the lua file and assets folder) inside the Mods folder
Be sure it's the actual folder, not its contents, not a zip, and not a folder containing that folder

You mean using patches? It's possible, but way more arduous than using something like SMODS
And regarding safety it cannot break your Balatro install or anything like that, unless you really go digging deep

The lua file was named TemporaryCards, which I renamed to ProtogenPack
it seems fair considering its rarity + chance isnt TOO prevelant unless ur running a deck around it (but idk what mods ur using alongside it)

Lovely is the standard and overwhelmingly popular method for enabling mods on Balatro, I don't think there are any real alternatives
but this does mean that hypothetically, someone could get the Wheel of Fortune in their inventory, use that Joker, spin the wheel, and be guaranteed to get one of the thingies

You technically can mod Balatro by unzipping it, modifying it, then rezipping it, but that's what Lovely does automatically
(And SMODS does for assets)
Balatro by virtue of being made using LÖVE is extremely open to being modified in any way you want
I created the json file and placed it in my mod's asset folder....
Balatro>Mods>Pack>Assets>json
Now I can no longer find a mods button in settings at all, and it's still not working :<

Open the lua file that's in Pack
If it starts with comments that contain something similar to SMODS METADATA, you don't need the json
If you do need the json, it needs to be in Pack, not assets
assets probably needs to be in lowercase

Ah, so in the mods folder I put the "Protogen Pack" folder, inside of that is the assets folder, lovely folder, smods folder, protogenpack lua and json files, and the version.dll. Tho I believe I copied that file to the game's folder because it wasn't working

Your Protogen Pack folder should only contain the protogenpack lua and assets folder
The version.dll needs to be put in the game's Steam folder, Steam/steamapps/common/Balatro. This is what enables the Lovely injector, and you seem to have already done it

Run into a problem with ExtraCredit mod - suits and ranks dont change at the end of round (vanila based jokers work correctly though)
thats a mod issue, you would need to fix that manually in the files probably 💀
or if theres a discord server for that mod, you can try going there and ask for help
if that bug is already found then they should have a way to fix that without too much work

hi friends! having some trouble with modding balatro. regardless of if i've whitelisted the .dll file in my antivirus/firewall/whateverit'scalled, the lovely .dll file is being eaten as soon as i launch balatro. any ideas on how to fix this?

Try whitelisting the folder to put the .dll file in instead
Lovely does a lot of things that many viruses also really want to do, so many antiviruses will (justifiably) flag it. Allowing it depends on your specific antivirus, so I can't give much help

Hello. I'm new here and whenever I try to make a slight change to the code of balatro, this pops up. Is there any way to fix this?
im leaving this here and going to bed, been working to put as many mods as possible in balatro but nothing worked as it should and now that im using the modder its even worse
started searching in general when i wasn't able to select cards from the code packs of the old cryptid mod because the hud that should contain the deck cards appared on the consumables not letting me pick them up, now its not even starting because of lovely-injector doesn't have the same syntax as before or smt i dunno

I've had this happen with WinRar before. Try 7zip and see if you keep having problems.
The reason I was using Winrar is because 7zip wasn't working at all. I'll try 7zip again tho

okay: I've figured out a way I can generate an atlas for my Joker sprites, and I'm curious to know whether or not it's the common practice
so in Aseprite, I import each individual Joker file as a keyframe, and then I export it as a spritesheet with a fixed number of columns

I personally just use mods on a different profile and never load the original profile, but you could always back up the files just in case

In clicker hero there is an Ancient called Juggernaut which gives +(number based on level) DPS per active clicking (resets after a minute or so of inactivity). my idea is a joker that gets mult per consecutive hand played and resets if any other hand type is played. any mods that adds anything like that?

One issue I'm experiencing, is that when cards are destroyed by certain effects (wax seals from Emporium), my deck size doesn't get decremented.
So in my current run I'm at 53/51.
Any suggestions for how to fix it? I have some lua knowledge, so maybe something I can add in the code of the wax seals, to have them recalculate the deck size?
How are they getting deleted in the code?
Ghost cards are usually caused by somehow chafing against how the game/smods expects card deletion to be done

ok so I found out that the way I was doing my Weighted Dice joker was a bit shitty
I did a test by selling it, spawning a bunch of Cavendish, and seeing if they would go extinct. they did not
the way i was doing things was by adding a lovely patch in for the pseudorandom function to always return a certain value.
now I've done a solution more similar to Cryptid's rigged cards: set the probability impossibly high

Errors like that are sometimes caused by misnamed mod folders. If any of your folders have -main in them, try removing that

ive been playing around with modding and half the mods aren't being detected by steamodded, and i have no idea why. has someone seen this issue before?
I also tried modifiying the lua files with the headers but it only worked on one mod
seems like i keep dying out of no where is there a common bug that just kills you after selecting a blind while using cryptid mod?
