you might be able to inject into the juice up function to mark which jokers have activated from a played hand
alternatively just add a billion injects throughout the scoring process

some jokers don't do anything visible, but generally if a joker would be to do anything it would return some value
i wouldn't do it though, since generally when youre doing stuff like destroying jokers under a condition you want to be conservative with the condition which can't happen here
i wouldnt count oa6 or updating loyality as triggering

i feel like a good way to make it less frustrating is to temporarily debuff jokers that don't return at all during a round (one round?)
and there would be some jokers it'd always debuff but you could just sell the joker and it's not a run ruining event or anything

if it was just there to disable jokers, it would be worthless, and more fitting to the idea of "Evil Jokers" (the very on the side idea of mine)

well i meant discoveries, like when jokers are shown as the translucent lock in the collection, i want those to be unlocked after finding them in the chalange runs
unlocks are when you fulfill an unlock condition
discovery is when you find the card in-game
this somewhat unintentionally handles both

hidden aces is a exe mod. but i digress. the steammodded was an exe loader as well. its not any more. it also does not work.
I suggest making a new profile - you are sure to mess up any statistics on your main profile (such as collection %), and it'd suck if a mod ever broke your savefile by accident
it usually doesn't "corrupt" it, you can mix the 2 if you want

I'm doing some texture mods for my wife's copy of Balatro for Christmas. I'm trying to figure out how to make a certain card display on the main menu at start up where the Ace of Spades usually goes. My experience with modding is essentially zero (one for one replacements of texture assets and a few localization changes.) Any help would be awesome.
you probably would need a lovely patch for that
can always dig through cryptid code to see how it's done there. probably just as simple as making a scaled-up card and inserting it into the main menu card area

make sure you don't have nested folders

i removed all my mods and put jenpack it worked
i removed the "-main" in everymod (including steamodded)
so like
steamodded-main -> steamodded
that doesn't matter for most mods
including steamodded
but it does matter for talisman

Yeah that's tough. I would try maybe learning a bit of lua first. The rng might also be from the LOVE2D engine itself which would mean you would have to look there but I'm not sure. I think people would know more in #💻・modding-dev if you wanna ask there.

I think some of the code might be wrong too, could be wrong but from what I can tell line 92 of the loader trys to use the :gmatch method on the object instead of calling to the string.gmatch method

Just tried modding Balatro for the first time, and I think my Steam Modded isn't working. When I boot up Balatro I do not see a Mods menu.
The instructions at https://github.com/Steamopollys/Steamodded/wiki/01.-Getting-started are a bit unclear to me. I'm on Windows 10 and have tried downloading the 1.0.0 alpha and extracting everything in my save folder ...\AppData\Roaming\Balatro\Mods .
The files from the zip are now in ...\AppData\Roaming\Balatro\Mods\Steamodded-main
Have you installed lovely? The link to it is right at the top of the page
Steam Modded and the mod folder should be in the Balatro folder in %Appdata%
That's probably it. Thought the injector instructions were for the older releases but I must have mixed some sets of instructions up.

Yeah, I noticed the discrepancy. When I move it, it doesn't seem to fix anything though. I think it might be a folder structure diff between win 11 and win 10 or somesuch.

Ok, that was really weird. Deleted Steamodded-main and extracted it again but it didn't work. Downloaded (as far as I can tell) the same exact file again and extracted it and it did work.

it used to have a hide mod badges option there, but now it's all in its own menu
(tab under mods button)
good, I'll put my mod's settings as a separate tab there
it's generally not recommended to put mod settings into the game settings tab
it gets overloaded easily if multiple mods do it
there's not really a better option if you don't rely on steamodded though
should be fine in a separate tab

it's never used for anything nefarious in lovely's case but this is the sort of thing viruses do, so antivirus programs dutifully throw it in the brig

Very much so, it's a rust program that directly injects lua code into an exe, and since lua code can run C libs, it can basically do whatever you want.
But if the mod is made up of just lua files you should be fine, but don't quote me on that

And then there’s no- actually following that logic there is a rare version of that with vagabond
According to Balatro University, power doesn’t really affect what rarity a joker gets ranked, since you could just buff up the numbers of any card to make it worthy of being that higher rarity
The main thing that makes a joker’s rarity is how complicated it is, like, most of the time
There are exceptions like the Duo is just an upgrade of Jolly Joker, and offers no extra complexity
But like, Blueprint is pretty complex since the optimal joker layout can change mid-round
Ancient joker requires you to make a specific flush each round, and you’ll probably need to pay attention to what the boss is to see if you need to skip to it or not so you don’t get screwed by bad rng
Campfire you need to find a way to get more cards to sell every round
…Though admittedly there are a few cases that make me question this
