Haven't looked at how it works but you can spawn a process from Lua with args (and maybe read stdout/write stdout) or use a socjet like the steamodded debug console

and download the latest version and drag and drop

and i did direct download lovely and steam modded into their repective folders
fixed it i had to get my tech wizard friend to write me a command prompt so i could exclude the folders manually so it wouldn't evaporate lovely
download method for lovely and steamodded is different though
for lovely you should probably use the release version (v0.5.0-beta6)
for steamodded you need to download the zip and unpack it (or git clone it if you can)
I did use the latest version of lovely, but I didn’t use git for the alpha version of steam modded
just downloading the latest code from the big green button is fine
finally got it to boot up and was met with this after trying to use a mod

For more info on the main.lua83, that was pure direct download with version.dll in game directory and steam modded in app data balatro mods
game directory is the better name for it yeah, but could I still see it?

you definitely need version.dll to be there to use any mods
just make sure version.dll (from lovely's releases section) gets placed in the game directory, we can look at any errors that pop up afterwards

Got a weird issue here that I dont really know the cause of. Lemme explain what happened.
I installed these mods a while ago, just wanted to tweak the suit colors to my liking, and added an achievments enabler since my one mod was purely cosmetic.
So I did a good run with the Ghost Deck today, got to Ante 8 on the boss, then I played my final hand that wouldve won the round and the game crashed. I was on Steam Deck and didnt think to screenshot it, so I dont know exactly what it said. I booted the game up again, reloaded the continue, and played the same hand and won. No crashing that time, all was well at the moment.
Now after I left that run and went to the main menu, I went to check the challenges tab to see if I unlocked it, and I saw this on the second pic. I dont know if its supposed to be like that but I'm fairly certain its not. Challenges didnt unlock, despite the game saying right there that i've won 5/5 runs. I dont know what caused this and i'm not sure what to do to fix it, I just hope that asking here I might be able to find a solution

UPDATE: redownloading bunco and disabling talisman (for some reason) fixed it

I'm trying to make my own mod project, starting with textures but i'm getting really hung up on how this all works with Steammodded and/or lovely. I'm noticing that every texture mod I can find doesnt seem to have anything in it that references the specific name of a texture file that its supposed to replace, but it always ends up replacing the correct thing anyway. How does it know what the mod is supposed to replace?
Like for example, this line from the LUA of RGBP Card Colors Pack

There's no mention of the sprite sheet that this is replacing in this, that being 8BitDeck.png, so how does it know it's replacing that spritesheet?
I couldnt find any documentation that clarifies this, I dont know what part of the lua code is making this work and I'm curious what it is cause i'm struggling to make my own mod without this information
your code is 0.9.8 which is outdated and deprecated, (1.0.0 uses SMODS.Atlas)
internal atlas names are different from the filenames, iirc they're defined in game.lua
it does use that but I noticed that RGBP works with my setup, i'm using 1.0.0
1.0.0 has backwards compatibility but making for 1.0.0 systems is better than relying on backwards compatibility

For balatro to be an irl card game in its full requires magic or sufficiently advanced technology anyway

Hello everyone. Got really addicted with this game and i've been already implementing few mods i've found so far. I would really love to make some mods myself for this this game with Steamodded. I'm a beginner at programming and have used some GML (GameMaker Studio) and Godot's GDScript before. I've also used Lua before but just recently i'm learning LOVE2D if that's how you get into modding this amazing game. Any pointers for beginners regarding both the programming and mod design sides?

Hey, if by mod design you mean API usage - there's a decent amount of example mods in Steamodded source code, as well as a wiki (still work in progress) on github.
Looking through source code of the game for things similar to what you want is generally helpful, you can also look at other people's mods for some API usage (as not everything is documented). Tho keep in mind #📜・modding-rules rule 5, and don't mindlessly copy-paste things for public mods without permission
