it might be an antivirus issue stopping the game from launching

"reason cybersecurity" is an antivirus that gets bundled with some software and it breaks balatro launching

the "reason cybersecurity" thing is detecting version.dll, the mod loader, as a virus and stopping balatro from launching
search the start menu for "change advanced startup options" then (read the rest of this message first lol) next to "advanced startup" select "restart now" and you'll reboot to a screen. from there choose "troubleshoot" -> advanced options -> startup settings -> restart, then it'll tell you what key to press to enable safe mode
once you've booted into safe mode you won't be able to launch most programs, but all you need to do is open the file explorer and go to "C:\Program Files" and delete the "ReasonLabs" folder. then on your desktop right click the recycle bin and choose "empty recycle bin"
then you can reboot the computer and it'll start as normal, after that let me know if version.dll is still in the folder or not because windows security might remove it but we can fix thaht

okay, so what you'll want to do is from the security window you have open, under "virus and threat protection settings" click on "manage settings" -> scroll to the bottom -> add or remove exclusions -> add exclusion -> browse to the Balatro folder and click on version.dll
that'll make sure that windows doesn't delete the mod loader later

you'll want to go to "This PC" and then "C:" like you did when you were in safe mode, then go to "Program Files (x86)" -> "Steam" -> "steamapps" -> "common" -> "Balatro"

I think you just make a mod with that atlas with the same key or has in base game and use "raw_atlas_key" Probably a bit more to it, but not much afaik

Also, the hooking of Card:calculate_joker doesn't seem to work (lines 544 and 633) — jokers seem to not be giving the effects that they should, though Brainstorm works
By the way, changing card_calculate_joker_ref(self, context) to card_calculate_joker_ref(context) gives the error attempt to index field 'ability' (a nil value)
Currently, the way that I've done it doesn't crash, but it causes jokers not to proc when they should

mod idea: mod where if you immolate with less than 5 cards you don't soft lock

polling for interest - thoughts on magic trick/illusion in the base game? ideas on how it could be made better while still remaining relatively balanced? from my perspective it feels underpowered and i've seen others say the same, there's a reason illusion was my last unlocked voucher
i've seen some people suggest that illusion should guarantee an edition + enhancement + seal but that feels a bit too powerful for my taste
the best change to it I've heard from a couple people is to just make a new shop board that sells playing cards

I don’t remember the chance that the tier 2 voucher gives for editions/enhancements, but I like the idea of it being 1 slot then 2 slots
the code checks if the pseudorandom result is > 0.8, so if i understand correctly that's a ~20% chance for editions
enhancements i think is > 0.6 ?
but those are both only if you have illusion, magic trick gives standard cards only

Regarding the UI, I don’t think the playing cards should have their own box. I’d add them in the Joker and Consumeable space, except as an extra option (like Overstock, but only for playing cards)
I think that’s simpler and more elegant than adding a new CardArea

hmm, not sure but it might be one of the mods... try taking everything except for the steamodded and lovely folders out and adding mods back one by one, see if it breaks when you add a specific one
Cryptid-main and Talisman - Copy should be renamed to just Cryptid and Talisman, and if that gives a different crash after that, could you share it again?
Will say that nativefs shouldn't be needed, and Mika's Mod, I don't remember if it ever got ported to 1.0.0, so that might be another issue.
Also, I don't think the faster unlocks mod causes any loading issues, but unless it's been updated, I don't think it works anymore.

it's possible and works pretty much the same way as on PC
I could see the voucher are being reduced in width and having them down there, otherwise I think a toggle button would be neat for any area that pops out of the main shop

has anyone else tried playing back and forth between a modded balatro and vanilla balatro? Like I started a run on modded balatro (vanilla+) and then finished that run on vanilla balatro on my steam deck using steam cloud sync. Reason I ask is because I finally beat purple stake last night and went to go play some more today on my modded version and it still shows me down in blue stake. No steam cloud sync errors that I can see.
wait no, I think it actually may be something wrong with the enhanced run setup mod. the continue menu shows purple stake and what will be orange stake as selectable but if you go to new run in the enhanced run menu its not available.
edit: well disabling the mod didn't fix it so probably not the mod's fault. probably something fucked with switching back and forth. guess i'll just go grind blue/purple again

This only is for decks, not jonklers unfortunately since there isn't really so far a "good" way to consolidate that since jonklers can have different values
