I point that out cuz I was grinding up to ascendant stake of DoE and whenever I got lucky with a gambler tag on the first ante i'd opt for the exotic. But if it was Universum, it was pretty much a dud.

Hey y'all, trying to mod balatro and having some problems. Got lovely and steamodded installed and working fine on their own, game boots up and it shows the version and mods button on the main menu just fine, but when I try to add Talisman (everything downloaded today from their latest github releases) it crashes with this. Followed the installation guide for the alpha 1.0 of steamodded. Guessing I shouldn't use 0.9.8 because it's deprecated.
Remove the -main from the talisman and cryptid folders if they have any.
Don't have cryptid installed, do they need each other? I thought Talisman worked on its own, and I'm trying to make sure the mods work one by one rather than installing everything at once
They don't need each other, but they have the same issue where the way they load requires the folder name to be exact.
should I remove -main from steamodded too or leave that?

Outside of that, your best bet would be waiting for a stable release. If you're playing stuff in development, there's going to be a lot more crashes, as is the nature of things in development.

I've recently been having FPS issues with Balatro, as the game goes on my framerate just tanks in shops or selecting cards to play. Oddly enough scoring it's perfectly fine, I'm just confused as to what the cause is.
I've also been noticing lag sometimes.

windows antivirus probably removed the version.dll from your steam folder

if you go to your mods folder and in the lovely folder theres a folder called dump, thats basically a copy of the game code with all the stuf lovely adds, so you can find main and see what line is causing this

so it only calculates for your joker
so you dont need to check the ability name is correct

you should use card
because self refers to the smods joker
whereas card is the actual in game card itself
so for example when you return
the message wont appear
but if you do card = card
then message will appear on the joker
here is well it can be a bit funny, so if you want to use anything from the smods joker template then you use self.config
if you want to use anything from the in game joker its card.ability
in this case its better to use card.ability just in case the value were ever to change
during a run

Guys how do i change the name of poker hands? I know you can use steammodded but i want to use 7zip. I Ctrl+F'd to change all instances of the word to what i wanted but when i look at it ingame it just says ERROR. I changed it back and its fine so i know I can change them. the way the game displays text is it has a big localisation file for each language
when it wants to display text itll basically look up the text in your language to display it in the write language

mods for balatro should be called expansion packs or something, cause thats how mods to irl card games work. you buy a booster pack/expansion pack, and get new stuff to play with
well many people who make expansion-type mods do call them that in some capacity
and the icons for mods should be stylized to balatro booster packs

Not impossible, for some, but also not advised. You can try some, but expect tons of crashes.

Dimitseren's modpack does have a few forks that are more stable for 1.0.0, but still isn't as guaranteed as mods that are simply built for 1.0.0, yeah.

I'm just surprised it wasn't just merged to the main repo. It's... extremely compatible code, to the extenbt where I can add it to my cobbled together "DeFused" mod despite not really knowing how to code, lol

about half of the mods I use are 0.98 mods, and everything mostly works fine
and when something breaks it's usually a newer mod
but some 0.98 mods just flat out don't work right, or crash immediately, so I avoid them
