Basically gregtech changed the amount of planks you get from a wood log from 4 to 2
Tinkers construct uses wood in a fair few of its recipes and mechanics, and the author felt this made wood unbalanced in TC, and so when TC detected GT it changed the recipe back
GT author got upset and felt that TC was intentionally breaking their balance, and so set GT to crash the game on boot if it detected TC
TC responded by adding a few unkind lines to be pasted in the game chat if it detected GT

if you have missing dependencies, a secondary thing pops up next to the mod name
and if you hover over it it will tell you what dependencies you're missing
