At level 5 Pair (only 4 Mercury Cards),
it takes you from 5 Mult to 40 Mult.

At level 6, it's from 6 Mult to 48 Mult.
In general, +8 per Planet.

At level 8, it eclipses 20 Rounds of growing your +Mult Joker,
which is not a crazy high level.

Part of the problem is that Glass cards exist
and that Chad is really strong with those even when you don't have Photo yet.
Also, Blue Seals make it really easy to reach really dumb levels.

It depends, from a technical standpoint. Yellow is great for extra starting money, red/blue are great with an extra hand/discard, ghost is good for a free polychrome, making a joker you think is useless automatically useful by giving x1.5 mult, plasma is great for early game to get you econ up, most decks are good tbh

• mult scaling is strong and available from a fair number of common jokers.
  Planet scaling is slower and usually relies on deckfixing and a source of planet cards (which isn’t always just money income)

The boss blinds you see (or don’t see) early on are a good way to direct your build

+Mult has diminishing returns especially without +chips (which can be from planets), and the same applies to chips without +mult.
Xmult becomes more valuable if you have multiple sources of it. Two x3 buffs are collectively an x9 to your score.

The typical Balatro gameplan is get easy scoring or income early, use scoring to survive and save money, find a scaling source of anything if possible, in the meantime scale a convenient planet card

I usually find myself approaching club+spade decks or heart+spade decks.
Spades aren’t overpowered or anything -the arguable “strongest” suit is hearts - but dedicating a build to a suit that has not been debuffed by a boss is extremely risky without boss nullifiers/rerolls.
so what you can actually do is say “I need this suit the least” and pick away at that suit.
