squares proactive scaling benefits come from it’s unconditional requirements and complete lack of scaling shifts from shop activity. pair lobotomy is very well disliked and appreciated for how consistent it stays relevant in the meta. no other chip joker has scaling requirement that are this lenient for its demands. square also can’t be perishable, can’t be below it’s scaled amount when in roster. can’t get oxed (even though bull doesn’t really care as chip jokers are are overall hand scoring agnostic)

wee makes sure you pick it up early enough where you didn’t already slice off your 2s. runner requires runner requires you to find and play a straight for scaling. castle requires you to use discards on a certain suit per round to scale. blue wants you to not cut your deck too much or require extreme digging power long term. stone joker. marble wants deck bloat which has its own issues. hiker requires 5 specific scoring cards that are frequently played between runs.

bulls benefit comes right after early game where youre given an opportunity to take a chip option without the time to scale upon pick up. retroactive chip scalers have their own separate niche where they perform well in different scenarios when coming down to comparisons. retroactive scalers have their own ups and downs but because mid game is introduced with more options overall and not being perishable immune, bull’s versatility is often not as important of an option as it’s not the only chip alternative at that point in the game. this also doesn’t factor in worst case scenarios barring rentals and perishable frequency. seeing shops and whatnot

square can secure your chip requirements from early game and doesn’t require a specific condition. can be picked up in most conditions early/mid game. bull can be picked up in practically the same amount of conditions mid game but has the added probability of an undesired debuff tag. square gets a higher grade based on consistency and necessity of scoring in its given moment. all in all, early game niches take higher priority and leaves little room for exceptions for how i play and win consistently.

square is overall more consistent in winning conditions.

While I dislike this format of tierlist since it doesn't say much about the actual jokers.

For the square that's an interesting take, the way I see it the joker just doesn't have a good timing for it, early you want to win as fast as possible to secure eco and mid game it is already too late since it is so slow to scale, the people who say 4 chips=1 hand are coping (BU thinks the same as me on this one). I also maintain that having to play 30 hands to have the value of an ice cream is very slow as a common.

Bull on the other hand is a passive scaler, and money generates money so it will grow automatically and as you said it is really great mid game onwards, it also has way more synergies than square joker (lots of ways to earn money).
Looking at my stats, bull has a way better winrate than square (maybe check yours as well?)
