focus on income early
mail-in is good, but only really pops off late-game when most of your deck is kings, so really anything that makes money early is worth holding onto
start optimizing your deck early as well, since it takes a while
I almost always open arcana packs when I can for death/hanged man/justice, and even if you don't get those, hermit/temperance/devil/chariot are still great
same with booster packs, as it's usually a lot easier to find a red seal from those than banking on rarer spectral packs. anything lower than a jack is kind of a pain to strength up to a king though, so I usually don't take those to avoid deck bloat
for getting the ectoplasm, which is usually what kills my run, sixth sense makes it a lot more consistent, and if you have DNA, you can copy 6s right back into your deck. I also try to avoid destroying 6s and 5s (since they can be strengthed into 6s if Qs/Js aren't available) for this reason, but never found myself needing to grab extra from booster packs
using wheel of fortune on non-essential jokers (including DNA, since you'll sell it anyways for burglar late-game) is also a good idea if you really don't want ectoplasm hitting them, since they'd already have an edition
I usually just try to level up high card with a scaling chip joker (square, wee, bull, runner) to get me through the first 8/9 rounds, but you might have to temporarily pivot to four of a kinds if it's taking longer to make a bunch of steels or get baron
late-game just comes down to getting lucky with jokers in the shop and praying for antimatter voucher
obv you can improve your odds with stuff like showman and double tag + voucher tag, but it's really just getting through the early-game that's the most complicated
extra tidbit: after playing your winning hand, if you have gold cards, you can move blueprints/brainstorms to copy mime. the phase where gold cards are activated happens separately from the scoring phase, so you can retrigger gold cards without a trade-off

yeah, even if you play perfectly you're sometimes still doomed
skipping on double tags to copy voucher tags removes a lot of the annoyance that comes with digging for antimatter, but there's always a chance tarot merchant just bares its teeth at you for like 4 shop rounds
seance also makes spectral cards, but I've never tried building a deck around it since sixth sense is a lot easier to proc and still allows you to thin your deck without needing to draw 5 specific cards
