Because you are just playing pairs most of the time.

And pair suffers from lack of chips until it has good levels.

if you sell square joker or he becomes obsolete ante 7 or 8 bc you get enough chips to get by from planet cards that's fine, any common flat chip joker would suffer the same fate, square is just more useful for longer

With dusk don't play your main hand at first. Also with ancient its mandatory to have a few wild cards.
