but the best way to plasma is actually pretty advanced

it's not the pairs themselves that get you far. You usually aren't "building around" pairs as much as you are just building around random good jokers the game offers you

the reason pair builds are strong is because. well first of all they're better than high card because it's nearly impossible to not draw a pair in a balatro hand so there isn't much reason not to do pair over high card.

but like the reason it's better than flushes, straights, full house, etc. is because building around those hands requires you to put a reasonable amount of resources into making sure you always can play those hands, which in turn means you're putting less resources into actually increasing your hand score

with pair, you don't have to worry about ever not being able to play a pair. you will be able to just play a pair. so you can focus entirely on card enhancements, pair hand levels, and scaling your scaling jokers
