I’ve done gold stake plenty of times without it, but I just know C++ is going to be stressful as hell the normal way. I also usually end up restarting anyway on weak runs. Sometimes there’s just a really promising run though, with a good setup and some unstickered jokers to tag along, and I’ll hit a wall that seems unbeatable, but takes every single card at the right moment to just barely clear, and that’s where savescumming can be really fun!

The other night I had a high card build with splash and stuntman to synergise with blackboard and card sharp. Used both ante down vouchers so only 3 hands, 1 discard. It was working just fine but Cerulean Bell kept picking the steels I needed to score. Had to do multiple antes worth of deckfixing across multiple reloads just to shuffle the deck so it’d pick different cards on those final 2 hands. Felt like I’d done the impossible when I finally scored enough!
