certain jokers can warp your default approach. jokers like rtb, shortcut, aj, can set you a long term scoring goal by giving you leverage to account for your early game scoring.

later on you're more hesitant to rely on these jokers, let alone take them. Playing towards them or relying on them scoring isn't always ideal when it requires a resource shift to make use of both aj and say pairs.

lack of synergy is also another factor. pairs only have two scoring cards while aj has on card x mult triggering before additive mult which isnt ideal for score accumulation. something else like smeared or another flush enabler (fingers/any tarot gen) would be a bigger sign to lean more towards flush route with different obstacles and resource management.

pairs while being the typical default approach for frequent success, isn't the main source of skill expression in this game. decision making in the moment is critical to enable more options to survive scoring thresholds. even when that means ditching a future plan nearly established for something better or some hail mary like tribe or flower pot
