Maybe 8-ante high score or time-limited high score/ante on a set seed is a a slightly more “pure” form of that style of gameplay, but multiplayer has a larger active community than either of those formats.

Also a big part of the skill expression in MP is about reading your opponents actions and adjusting your personal risk threshold based on that information
