Balatro is mostly skill based. The game randomly gives you jokers, planets, skips etc. YOU make the decisions on what you can do. I had a run on Gold Stake Plasma Deck where I got a scaling Square but not many other good sources of chips, and had to grab a Burglar to barely live most rounds, use a lucky find of a foil DNA to make Aces to be able to proc my perishable Wily Joker more than once per round easily which gave me just enough chips to survive until the Ante 7 boss.

Even then I didn’t make it to Ante 8, but even getting to 7 there proved very difficult with the absolute shit I was getting other than the square. Definitely not enough chips to survive past that though.

Although if you weren’t skilled, you’d die much earlier. I only survived past Ante 6 because I was copying bonus Aces. Otherwise I wouldn’t proc the Wily enough to live. The jokers I was seeing were terrible even with a pretty stacked Rocket giving me cash for rerolls.

Fair but the point is you have to make do with what you get

Black Deck is the best example. The game may give you jokers at the beginning that won’t help to score so to scrape by you have to use tarots or planets. Then your economy struggles until you get a good Joker, and usually on the Black Deck it takes a long time to get your economy going if you don’t see a good economy joker.

But a good player will be able to make do and still survive pretty far on any Black Deck run. I’m talking about Gold Stake here, so you won’t win every run because of how hard Black Deck truly is but if you’re good you can get far.

There are so many ways of scoring that you can’t just rely on Joker RNG. If you rely on getting a good Joker, don’t get a good Joker, and then not use other methods of scoring to live, you’ll end up losing.
