I think I finally found out how I'm gonna make my lucky card after a lot of struggle, might make some more edits but I think this is good for now.

Left: What I was trying previously, probably gonna repurpose into the stone card because I can't really figure that one out either (just changing the colors to more stoney colors gives me hope that it'll work out that way). I tried really hard to get the creases to look right, but I don't think it would've worked out.

Right: My new lucky card, looked at more images of old, worn down playing cards to get a better idea of how I want to make it. It's a lot more simple, but that's probably a good thing. The reference I was using previously was very grainy around the edges, but I've seen that there are also old cards that aren't really as grainy, so I tried out that look instead, and I think I prefer it (also it makes everything a lot easier for me so I think I'm sticking with it).

I’ve probably done a relatively equal number of legendaries like that to gfs so here are my two cents

For legendaries I tend to make a bunch of circles and squares as a guide before i trace over them and create tentacle like swirls

Usually i go for 4 colors dark to light of the same hue - i draw everything on my semidark, doing the swirls with my semilight
Once i’m done i add in the dark in areas that are primarily semidark and light as a higlight in the semilight

for drawing the actual person it boils down to being able to sculpt an exaggerated face which is something you just learn over time

I like to imagine these are trading cards minted using woodcut templates and natural paints. I might, instead of using the english langauge, make up a japanese style language for the red box. The corners can be assigned symbols based on what the card does, for example, Economy would be a coin of some kind.

The card outline is an archway to represent a stained window, which is common due to all the churches in the area.

Yes, the churches play cards. They even sell tarots. They just don't take bets or gamble.
Instead, you just need to attend service and pay tithe before you can just... play in the church like a third place.

The cards could have little tear edges like tickets, so it implies that a machine minted these.
Despite being very low-tech (being a combination of medieval and 1930s) they still have minting machines for their paper currencies.
I can imagine small printing vending machines around certain towns that stamp a random design on a piece of paper and cut it off for you, that or you snag it like a receipt.

An example glyph of the fictional language.
This one is a placeholder card. So, the name is just "Dummy".
Mannequins and humanoid objects are very common, hence why they have a specific glyph for this.

Here's the "Humanoid" glyph in comparison. Humanoids in my art style tend to have their legs attached to the sides with big floating hands, hence why the glyph looks that way.
Notice how the dummy also has hands, but has no face and uses a base instead of legs?

Humanoids aren't gendered in any way due to how confusing a typical gender assignment can be for them. So, they stick to the one humanoid glyph. Besides, how would one differentiate the genders with such small characters?

Is it hard to use ? I know it's sound like a dumb question but my combined addiction of balatro & terraria make me think learning pixel art isn't a bad idea
