The right one has a lot more dimension thanks to the shading. And it DOES look good, I wouldn't say it's "overly detailed" in a general sense, just a little more detailed than some things are in the balatro style.

It feels a lot more...complete than the left one? The lights are a nice touch, but the outline ends up feeling more smudgy. So, I honestly have to respectfully disagree with Sprites4Ever? Even if it breaks the balatro style a little, the right has more appeal overall.

Don't worry about breaking your back trying to remain 'true to the vanilla style', a lot of mods happily break it, while staying close enough by matching the palette as much as possible. While the one pixel line might not be as "chalky", it feels nicer

but that's just one guy's opinion, obviously!

i think it's important to remember that cards are pretty small in-game. the right looks fantastic, and there's nothing wrong with it in general, but it's overly detailed for balatro gameplay imo.
if i were to take a stab at merging the two, i might use the left as a base, keep the thicker chalk line but make it thinner in some areas, re-add the shadow from the caution tape, and bring the police lights up to a higher layer like sprites4ever suggested

I did that a lot with my mod as well, many sprites just would not look as good if I didn't make them at full size first, as long as you scale it down to the appropiate resolution so it fits the game sprite then you're golden
