aseprite is the program the thunk uses and highly recommended by most pixel artists! has a lot of useful tools, gradient being one of them

you can compile it for free but it’s worth buying ($20) if you draw on PC

is there an effect that character omits? like a glow or fog or something maybe you could use it to fill some of the negative space but generally some friends of jimbos use negative space, so you could leave it as is

also if you notice the OG face cards, their bodies, some things are outlined and some arent. could help with making the queen feel less skinny without an outline (if that makes sense)
