But I do think there are some cool options for gen AI if the scenario is wanting to do something that relies on assets in situations where you just couldn't have an artist do it. The standard example is procedural dialogue for games, but as a linguist that's focused on LLM-generated texts I do have a lot of doubts about the actual success rate of it. But I do think that in a gaming context, generating text for procedurally generated by incredibly complex quests, is actually a cool usecase. Or in a more limited sense, procedural dialogue is something that could be used to at least make it so a player can use more naturalistic language to communicate with the game, without the game needing to have incredibly complicated language parsers.

yeah, I've helped test a company's application of it a few years back, and I think it's a perfect example of a really valid use-case. But I'm generally sceptical about a lot of AI claims, so the usecases I think are good are generally those that are just an interface to help communication, instead of being the communication tool, haha. I remember reading a bunch of google and meta's papers on llm training and concepts of sentience, and what we could learn about the human brain and the way language works from it, and I consistently just had to accept that a lot of the ai papers aren't about providing actual insight, but part of the hype marketing cycle

But part of the problem is that what gen AI is isn't what sci-fi calls AI, and no person's capable of actually separating those concepts mentally. Every one, even me trying to pretend I'm better for knowing, constantly falls into the trap of extending ais capabilities and processes into something 'human' because they create output that resembles an output a human can create. 'Hallucinating' as a term for introducing false information by an LLM is such a big example of kind of implying that it even has a concept of truth internally, and that it can be 'tricked' into hallucinating any piece of information

In some extremely niche cases, I do see AI as being helpful and one of the better solutions to some problems when used correctly. In these cases, I think it's a bit meh to say that no AI should be used at all because it supports negative uses of it

I again would like to clarify that I do not appreciate the use of AI replacing talent, but completely suppressing it isn't the way forward either imho
